Chapter 48
Aurora was woken sometime later by Peter. She groaned softly and sat up, rubbing her eyes to try and wipe away the grogginess. She still felt hot, but didn't pay it any mind, for now.
Peter gave her a small smile. "You feeling better at all?" He asked her.
"Still flush, but I think the sleep helped with the other stuff." She responded, followed by a yawn.
"Good. Tony just got up a few minutes ago and he's waiting for us in the living room." He told her.
"Alright, I'm up." She kicked the blanket off and swung her legs over the side of the bed to stand up. "Thanks for waking me up, I want to be there for the call."
Peter nodded. "I promised you I would, didn't I?" He smiled.
Aurora returned the smile. "Yes you did, and I'm glad you kept it." She stifled another yawn, and headed out the door to meet Tony.
Tony looked up and smiled at them. "There you are. You feeling any better? Pete said you were a bit feverish earlier."
"Just a bit better. Like I told Peter I'm still a bit flush, but I'm sure it's fine." She waved a dismissive hand.
"I'm going to run a check up on you after this." He told her. "Not up for debate. But you both wanted to listen in on the call?"
"You don't have to go out of your way for that-" She began, but focused on the question. "Yeah, I'd like to."
"Not out of my way and I'm doing it. Now sit down so I can call." He told them both and Peter sat in one of the chairs.
"Fine." Aurora pulled up a lab chair, turning it around so she'd be able to lean forwards onto the back of the chair.
Tony set the phone on the desk after dialing the number and waited.
Aurora tapped her fingers against the back of the chair, waiting awkwardly for the other end to pick up. She was anxious to hear Daredevil's answer.

Matt turned his head in his sleep, to try and achieve a more comfortable position. It wasn't until then that he realized his head was now on a pillow, and he was now laying down. Somehow, he was back in bed, yet he had no memory of moving there.
He could feel Kasey snuggled up against him, still grasping his shirt as she slept, completely out.
As he came to a bit more, he could hear someone in the living room and after a minute, realized it was Claire moving around. Cooking something it seemed.
Matt would've sat up to go to the living room, if it hadn't been for Kasey laying on him. He didn't dare move, in fear of waking her. He assumed that Claire had found them sometime after he passed out, and gotten them to move to the bed.
He heard Claire set something aside and turn the stove off before peeking her head into the room, smiling when she saw he was still pinned down.
"Be careful, you'll wake her." She told him, her voice a soft whisper as she leaned in the doorframe.
Matt frowned, knowing he couldn't get up with Kasey there. "You're enjoying this, aren't you?" He asked, letting out a tired sigh.
Claire made a soft humming noise. "Maybe a little bit." She answered. "Though I have to admit, I was pretty confused when I found you both passed out on the floor." She told him with a light chuckle.
Matt stilled for a moment. "I must've fallen into a pretty deep sleep, because she went into a panic, thinking I was-" He stopped himself, not even wanting to say it. "When I heard her panicking, my senses went haywire and I shot out of bed, falling directly onto my leg."
Claire's eyes softened at that. "I'm not surprised your body shut down so hard. You've both been through a lot and you have a lot to recover from..." she sighed.
"Thankfully the cast should have made sure it didn't get messed up again but yeah, that would've hurt." She agreed.
"Do you remember moving to your bed at all?" She asked after a moment.
Matt thought for a moment, but found he had no memory of moving to the bed. He shook his head before responding. "No, I remember trying not to fall asleep on the floor. As you can see I failed at that."
Claire chuckled. "Yeah. You both were out cold when I found you. I did try to wake you up and get you to move but you were pretty resistant to it," she grinned. "You aren't great at fighting when you are practically still asleep-" She teased him.
Matt winced, instantly regretful for that. "Sorry about that, it's just sort of a response now." He admitted, but believed that he would've been resistant to moving.
"It's fine. It was kinda funny actually." She laughed softly before humming gently. "You were mostly resisting because I pulled you away from Kasey since I could only move one of you at a time." She shifted her position a little.
"You kept mumbling something about how you promised her and how you wouldn't scare her again..." she explained.
"You wouldn't stay down until I finally brought her over to you." She smiled warmly with a shake of her head. "You practically snatched her from me." She chuckled.
Matt shook his head lightly. "I don't remember a second of that. But I did promise her that I'd be with her till she woke up, so that I wouldn't freak her out again." He could tell Kasey was still asleep, so he spoke in softer tones.
She smiled and gave another small laugh. "Matt, have you even noticed how attached you've become to her? You've practically adopted her at this point-" She teased him lightly before shaking her head.
"I'm teasing but... it is really precious to see how much she trusts you and that you're so protective of her even when you're still mostly asleep."
"Well I told her that I would protect her, and I guess that idea stuck with me, even as I was sleeping." He couldn't help but feel like she was a younger version of him. And while he wouldn't try to train her like Stick, he'd do his best while she filled in for him as he was healing.
A subtle buzzing sounded from somewhere in the living room, along with an automated voice, speaking TONY repeatedly. It was just loud enough for him to hear, so it must've been tucked somewhere. "I think I'm getting a call, but my phone is somewhere in the living room-"
Claire turned her head towards the living room. "I'll go find it." She told him and disappeared out of the room.
Matt suddenly felt Kasey shift a little bit, a small hum noise coming from her but she didn't seem to fully wake up.
"Thanks." He told Claire, before turning his attention to Kasey. It seemed like she was still somewhat asleep, just readjusting. He didn't want to wake her up yet, wanting her to get plenty of sleep.
Claire came back in with the buzzing phone. "Here, It's Tony." She had silenced the noise so it wouldn't bother Kasey.
Matt shifted as much as he could do he wouldn't disturb Kasey, but enough so he was sitting up somewhat. He answered the phone, once again speaking in low tones. "Hello."
Tony turned towards the phone a bit. "Hey, so, I have two very anxious spiders asking if they can come with me tomorrow to see Kasey," He explained to him. "And I told them I'd have to ask first, so here we are." He gave Peter and Aurora a slightly teasing smirk.
Matt heard Tony out, and realized that Kasey had been away from her friends for a good while now, so it might even be beneficial for her to see them.
He wasn't quite happy having so many people over at his apartment lately, but put Kasey first. "It might do her some good if they come to see her. As long as they're the only other guests you're bringing, they're welcome to come."
"Alright then. We'll be there sometime tomorrow." He confirmed. "If you'd let her know, I'd appreciate it. How is she doing, by the way?" He asked, unsure of how she'd be when they came to see her.
He hadn't been told a lot of the details from when Daredevil had found her in the first place.
"She's resting right now, but I'll let her know once she's up." Matt stated, before continuing on. "The fits have lessened, which is good, but they still come."
"But she's alright otherwise?" Tony asked him.
Kasey shifted a bit again, another soft hum coming from her as she nuzzled deeper into his side.
Matt paused to listen to Kasey's heartbeat and breathing. She seemed relaxed. "Yes, she's just fine."
Tony relaxed a bit more at that. "Good... Thank you for helping out." He told him. "Seriously."
Claire watched from the doorway, a small smile on her face as she saw how relaxed Kasey was, buried into his side.
"It's not a problem, seriously." After all, it was technically his job anyway to help the people in Hell's Kitchen. Even the ones who happened to wander in.
Tony chuckled. "I'll let you get back to whatever you were doing then now that I can make these two dorks stop being so anxious over her." He grinned. "We'll see you tomorrow then."
"See you then." Matt nodded, hanging up.
