Chapter 46
As soon as he could, Peter made his way over to the Tower during the next day. He had somehow managed to get some more rest after the call with Kasey, and was anxious to see her again. His friend had one hell of a night, and he needed to make sure she was okay.
Peter swung up and onto the balcony of the tower, sticking the landing. He entered the building, greeting Friday as he went.
"Hello Peter." She greeted him when he called out to her. "Mr. Stark is asleep in the lab and Aurora is in one of the bedrooms." She informed him. "Would you like me to wake them?"
"Hello Friday!" Peter chirped. He noticed that she didn't say where Kasey was, but remembered the earlier happenstance where Kasey hid her location from Friday, and assumed it had happened again. "If you would, that would be amazing." He told the AI, heading towards the lab first.
"Of course." She replied before setting off a small alarm in the lab, startling Tony awake.
"Wha- Fri??? What'd you wake me for?" He asked, rubbing his eyes.
"Peter is here and is on the way to see you." She replied.
He sat up straight. "Wait, he's here?"
"Yes, making his way towards you now."
Tony swore under his breath. He hadn't expected Peter to come by before he had a chance to talk to him...
Peter was in high spirits, looking forward to seeing his friends. He found his way to the lab, finding himself in the company of a freshly awoken Tony. "Mr. Stark!"
Peter pulled his mask off, having worn the suit as he swung across the city. "Friday didn't tell me where Kasey was, do you know where she's at? I was hoping I could talk to her about last night-"
Tony turned to him when he came into the lab and took a deep breath. "Uh, about that..." He had no idea how to even start this... "She's, uh, not here..."
Peter's attitude faltered, and a look of confusion crossed his face. "Huh?"
Peter shifted uncomfortably on his feet. "What do you mean, I thought you guys had her here, after what happened."
He took a deep breath and motioned to the nearest chair for him to sit down in and once he reluctantly did so, Tony explained. "She... She got angry with Aurora and I when she found out we had gone back to the corporation that had taken you guys without telling her..." He explained slowly, knowing Peter would probably be upset too. "And she, uh, ran off-"
Peter felt like he had been slapped in the face. Twice. He could've gotten whiplash from the information he had just obtained. "You guys went back there? Without telling me, or her?" That was hard enough of a pill to swallow, but then he wasn't even told that Kasey didn't come back!
"What do you mean she ran off?! Where is she now?" After all, he wasn't even told that the two girls had run off to Hell's Kitchen and jump started this whole thing. Make that a third slap to the face.
Tony sighed as he leaned back in his chair. "She's safe." He reassured him. "Daredevil found her since I had to get Aurora back and she didn't want anything to do with either of us at the time." He explained.
"He took her back to where she was staying yesterday when I called you..." He shifted a bit. "And we didn't tell you because you had a test to study for and Kasey was nowhere near a good place to even try to go back."
"A test?!" Peter exclaimed, barking out a distraught laugh. "You decided not to call me because I had to study for a test?!"
He ran a hand through his hair, trying to make sense of it all. "Not only that, but she's with the freakin Devil of Hell's Kitchen?" He had heard horror stories of that guy.
He was still flabbergasted at the reasoning for him not being called. "I think my friends matter a little more than me passing a test, Tony."
Tony flinched a bit at that. "We had it handled, Peter." He replied, keeping his tone calm. "Aurora only came because she was going to run in alone in the first place." He told him honestly. "Kasey was going to do the same and then that's when she went missing because Daredevil took her."
"Agh!" Peter was just getting so.... mixed up in all of this! They were supposed to be a tight knit trio, and now it seems they didn't even trust one another to tell each other when they were going off to do something dangerous!
"If you guys had it handled, then why did Kasey end up the way she did, and you had to call me to talk her down?!"
"She wasn't with us!" He told him a bit more firmly. "She was-" He sighed in frustration. "She was staying with a friend of his and they called us when that started happening." He explained. "We weren't with her and rushed over from that place."
That took a bit of the blame off of Tony, but Peter still couldn't believe this. They had gone back there without him, and then waited until basically the last second to call him, all before not telling him that Kasey ran off because she was rightfully pissed. "I just.."
God! It was so frustrating to try and put this into words. "I wish you would've told me sooner. Brought me with you in the first place even."
Tony sighed again. "I'm sorry. I didn't want us all going and alerting them that we were onto them but that didn't really go so well." He leaned back. "But I'm supposed to go get Kasey tomorrow so she has time to cool off... Though I'm not sure how that's going to go..."
"I'd like to go with you." Peter stated, not willing to back down on this. He had to see Kasey for himself, and he wouldn't be left out of anything again.
Tony took a deep breath. "I'd have to make sure that's fine. Daredevil is already risking a lot by telling us about one of his sanctuaries and people who actively help him." He explained to Peter.
"Well we met the other night, and he deemed us okay... I think." Peter suddenly reevaluated everything he thought about the man. "That should count for something, right?"
Tony shrugged. "Maybe. He might set up a meeting place or something instead or have us go there." He replied.
Peter let out a sigh, the recent stress weighing on him. Man, and his day had been going so good too! He had to admit, he was curious as to who the devil chose to keep as a friend and sanctuary.
It was then that Aurora stumbled out into the lab, having been woken up by Friday and gotten a new change of clothes before meeting Peter. She figured she'd wait to change the bandaging until after they talked. Her eyes felt swollen from the lack of sleep, and she could basically feel the bags under them.
Tony looked up and chuckled softly at her. "You look like you've slept well." He said sarcastically.
Peter grimaced slightly, although he tried not to let it show. He would've been pretty angry with her too, and somewhere deep down he was, but it was shortly snubbed out after he saw her.
"Geez thanks." She pulled up one of the lab chairs, taking a careful seat on it. "I just caught the tail end of the conversation, but you're going back to Hell's Kitchen I presume?"
"Yes. Tomorrow, but yes." Tony confirmed. "Daredevil had suggested we wait a bit because she was still pretty upset..."
Peter nodded along. He wanted to go today, but going tomorrow would have to do. It would give him some time to think over what he wanted to say to her.
Aurora already knew what she was going to say. That was the main thing keeping her up most of the night. "Good. I'm coming with." She was going to apologize.
Tony sighed. "Alright. I'll let him know." He agreed, tiredly. "But I'll try to fill you in as much as I'm allowed to." He told Peter.
Peter took a seat on one of the lab seats as well. "Thank you Mr. Stark. I appreciate it." He had calmed down somewhat, and his temper was fluctuating around normal.
Aurora leaned on the lab table, resting her head on her arms. She'd listen and tune in every now and then, but more often than not, her mind was in a far off place.
Tony told him what all they had found on their mission, showing him the piles of stuff he had been sorting through. He seemed hesitant when he got to the part about them arriving to help Kasey.
He sighed softly. "We were called and given very little information until we got there. But as soon as we did, before we even called you, Kasey... Kasey went from bad to worse..." He explained slowly.
"Almost the second we arrived it seemed, she... she flatlined, Peter..." He looked upset even having to say it out loud.
Peter listened intently, his expression darkening with each word out of Tony's mouth. When they came to the end of Tony's sentence, he was horrified. Not only horrified, but shot back to the feeling he had earlier, where he was left out once again. "Flatlined?? Kasey died and came back again??"
Aurora flinched at the mentioning of what had happened. It made her heart sink into her chest, and a sickness settled into her stomach.
Tony nodded, rubbing his hand over his face. "Y-Yeah." He replied quietly. "A-...Aurora jumpstarted her." He explained. "We... we still don't even know why it happened... but it wasn't long after that, that she startled awake and I called you not much later."
Not much later. Yeah that sure made him feel better. He couldn't have been told when one of his friends basically died, but instead was called not much later.
Aurora glanced down at her hands, before squeezing her eyes shut and turning her head to the side. She had to bring back her friend who was dead. Kasey had died and Aurora had to bring her back.
"Peter, I'm sorry we didn't tell you, either of you but we had both agreed it was the best choice. You and I both know you would've insisted on calling Kasey and telling her and she would have insisted on coming, regardless of what state she was in." He explained. "And with how she was when we were called it was very clear that it was the better call not to let her know."
He shifted a bit. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner, and I'm sorry we didn't call you when we were first told about her situation." He told him. He felt horrible for upsetting both of them but with Aurora having gotten hurt going with him? The idea of two vengeful spiders, one of which having already been in a bad place all around, wasn't something he was willing to deal with.
"You could've explained that to me and I wouldn't have called her!" He realized that would've upset Kasey more, and sighed. She would've felt the same way he did now. "But that wouldn't have helped her much..." Pater ran a hand down his face, the stress getting on his nerves.
Aurora kept her head turned away from the conversation, and fixated her gaze on the wall. Every chip and crack would be known to her.
"Exactly. I couldn't tell you anything because if she thought even for a moment you had known and didn't tell her?" He shook his head.
"Peter, she's incredibly close to you. More than either of us and it's probably because you're the one who caught her. You were her first safe place in a long time. I couldn't risk damaging that..." He explained to him with a sigh. "If I was able, I would have told you, but I would rather have hurt both of you than her feeling hurt by you."
Peter groaned, and pressed his palms to his eyes. This was all so frustrating, but he really couldn't blame Tony. After all, he was right. Having Peter know, and still leaving Kasey out would wreck her. "I know you're right, I know that, but I can't help but be upset still."
"Which is fair. It's valid for both of you to be upset by this. And I'm sorry we couldn't find another way." He told him. "But I promise you, if they agree to let you both come then I will make sure you do."
"Hopefully we both can. I'm curious to see who Daredevil deems trustworthy." Pete spoke, starting to calm down again. He knew he'd still be salty for a while, but he tried not to act on it.
Aurora hoped they could both go too, but if it came down to it, she'd let Peter go. She could always apologize another time, and maybe while they were in Hell's Kitchen, she could get away for a little while.
"I'll give him a call in a little bit, I still need to sort through this mess." He told them, looking at the piles of papers.
Peter glanced down at the papers, and took in just how many there were. Their journey the other night must've been very fruitful if they had gotten that many from the corporation. "Okay, Mr. Stark."
He glanced over at Aurora and gave her a small smile. "Hey Webs, you wanna tell Peter about the friend you made over there?" He prompted her, knowing she was lost in thought.
Aurora blinked a couple times, coming back down to Earth. "Oh, right." She had almost forgotten about her friend, and a whole new bout of guilt hit her. She had told him she would go back for him.
"There was a locked room I got into, and there was a huge creature, like a mix between a spider and a monkey. But he wasn't mean, he was actually really nice. Almost attacked Tony when he barged in, heh."
Peter sort of stared wide-eyed at her for a moment, not really knowing what to say. "So you've got a new monster friend. Nice."
"Yeah, it was quite the sight to walk in on." Tony laughed. "But we're going to get it outta there at some point." He told him. "Aurora still has to find a place for him first."
She leaned over, whispering out of the corner of her mouth. "I was planning on fitting him in the garage, maybe moving out a couple of Tony's cars when he's out of town." Trusting a teenager with Tony's ritzy cars was not a good idea.
Tony shot her a look. "I already said no-" He argued with her, having heard her as the room was already pretty quiet aside from the machine's soft humming.
"Well I can't exactly fit him in my apartment, can I? We have a strict no pets policy there." Aurora muttered back, stifling a yawn.
"And like I said, we'll figure something out but not the garage. Now, go to sleep. You're about to pass out."
Aurora groaned in protest. "I want to be awake when you call, and I've already been trying to sleep. All night in fact. Going back won't help."
He gave her a tired look. "Kid, do I need to sedate you?"
"If you did, I'm sure I'd fight that off too." She gave a smug smile. "Plus. You look like you could use a nap too."
"At least I had one." He retorted. "I won't be calling for at least another hour or two so,"
Aurora rolled her eyes. "I'll be fine." It was mostly true. Her side was aching up a storm, and her brain felt muddled, but she'd rather deal with that than try to sleep.
He sighed. "Alright kid but if you drop out of the air on the way over tomorrow, I'm grounding you."
"I won't! Promise." She paused and smirked. "Was that some sort of pun, by the way?"
Tony stared at her, confused before realizing and groaning. "No, it wasn't..." He replied, pinching the bridge of his nose. He was too tired for this.
"Huh, darn. That would've been very funny if it was. I'm stealing that, by the way, for future use." Aurora told him, returning her head to the resting spot on her arms.
He just gave a deep sigh and motioned to Peter. "You're welcome to hang out until I call him but I'm going to go get some proper rest so I can work on this correctly." He told them both.
Peter nodded, figuring he could develop some more web fluid while he waited. He could always use more. "Okay, Mr. Stark, I'll be here."
"Alright." he gave a small wave and disappeared out of the lab to take a proper nap. The kids would be the death of him...
Aurora watched Tony leave, letting out an agitated sigh. This sucked. The wounds, the stress, the memories...Everything sucked. "Sorry we didn't tell you, Peter."
He gave a small shrug. "I get it. It's frustrating, but I get it." He replied with a small sigh. "I'm sorry you had to go through that." he replied, referring to the jumpstart.
"It's fine." She waved a dismissive hand. Although, it wasn't really fine, was it? She had noticed it had become her go-to reaction whenever she sensed an ounce of pity from someone.
It's fine.
Peter didn't look like he believed that but let it go for now. "Are you alright aside from that? I just..." He shifted. "You haven't been telling me what's going on lately..."
Aurora frowned, and suddenly, the design and little marks on the lab table were more interesting than ever. Her eyes were basically glued to them. "I know, and I'm sorry. I just-"
God she hated this! She hated feeling so pitiful, and weak, and tired, and stressed. She wasn't supposed to be like this. She was supposed to be the confident, peppy hero that the people saw her as. "I think that incident did something to me."
Peter rolled over to her and leaned on the table. "Do... Do you want to talk about it? I'm happy to listen." He offered.
Aurora let out a groan, pressing her forehead to the table. It shouldn't be this hard, right? She knew people whose feelings rolled right off their tongues. So why did it feel like she was choking on hers?
"I think I'm just going crazy. Maybe that electrocution fried my brain." It had been a good while since she had admitted she was electrocuted. It made her back ache thinking about it.
Peter frowned at that. "If you told Tony he could check," He offered. "You know he would in a heartbeat." He sounded concerned. "But why do you think you're going crazy?"
"I can't-" It hurt. Lord knows it hurt. She wanted to tell him everything, from the stinging in her back all the way down to the stitched gash in her side. So why was it so hard?
"I don't know! It's like I've been a million miles away, but I'm here. Stuck, here. I try to do something by myself, and I get screwed. Try to follow instructions, I get screwed. Try to rest for a little while? Nope! Now I have to resurrect one of my best friends! All while my stupid brain keeps telling me to do one thing, then the next minute it tells me to do the other." She gasped out, not even scraping the surface of what was happening inside her head.
Peter startled a little bit but he listened to her. "Aura..." Peter sighed softly. "I can see why you'd feel that way, and I won't disagree it sounds incredibly confusing..." He admitted. "I don't know what to tell you but I wish I did... Why can't you tell Tony?"
"I- I don't know. And I hate that I don't know." She kept her forehead pressed against the lab table, the cool surface feeling calming against her skin.
"I just feel like I'm relying on him too much. Even back at the corporation, I couldn't take on two guys without getting sliced. I didn't even tell him when that happened." She felt so weak, and she loathed it.
Peter hummed softly. "You know I'd be happy to do it for you if you want? But only if you want. I get the whole reliant thing. I feel that way sometimes too but he does just want to help."
"Please don't tell him. It would just get worse." Aurora had convinced herself that it would. If Tony was told, he'd just feel bad and pity her more, and plus he had a lot on his plate anyway with Kasey... She saw how tired he looked and how he reacted when they saw Kasey back at the apartment. Aurora couldn't fathom burdening him anymore.
The more she thought, the more her skin burned. She felt embarrassed enough, but the constant reminders on her skin irritated her further.
Peter nodded slowly. "Okay, but... can you at least try to talk to me if you need to? It's better than bottling it up..."
Aura lifted her head from the table, looking over at him. "I can't promise that I'll be the best at that, but I can try." She almost felt feverish. This is ridiculous. She thought to herself.
I shouldn't be so worked up. If anyone should be worked up it should be Tony or Kasey. Hell even Peter probably has it worse than me, after all he was left out of everything, and he was suffocated during the incident, but came out seemingly fine.
I'm overreacting.
Peter frowned at her and reached over, pulling a glove off and touching her forehead. "You're a bit warm..." He told her, concern in his eyes. "Are you feeling okay, like, sick wise?"
"I've been feeling sick ever since Tony brought up Kasey... flatlining." Saying it again felt like acid on her tongue.
I should've just said I was fine. Now he'll worry.
Peter looked more concerned but nodded in understanding. "I think you're starting to run a fever." He told her. "Which probably isn't helping." He sighed. "Do you want me to get you a cool rag or something? Or do you just want me to keep you company?"
"Oh great." Aurora groaned. A fever. So was she getting sick? She didn't know. Maybe she could blame all of this on her being sick, if she was.
I know that's not true.
She shook her head at Peter's question. "No, you don't need to get up and get anything." She rubbed a palm against one of her eyes. "I'll be fine."
He frowned at her but nodded. "Alright. You wanna lay down in one of the cots?" He asked her. "You look exhausted..."
"I am." She laughed weakly. "I am exhausted. But I can't get a wink of sleep without my own thoughts plaguing me."
I'm a hypocrite.
I'm weaker than before.
I need to apologize.
I'm fine.
He hummed softly before getting up and grabbing some blank paper and a pen. "If you can't talk to us about it, maybe try writing it down? It needs to get out of your system."
Aurora gave him an odd look and took the paper and pen. She couldn't tell whether her face was burning from the fever or her own embarrassment. She hadn't meant for him to try and act as some sort of therapist for her, what she said had just spilled out.
For a good minute or two she stared at the paper, not even knowing where to start. One thing would lead to another and it would become a jumbled mess.
Peter gave her shoulder a light squeeze and soft smile. "I'm gonna go work on my webbing, okay? I hope this might help you at least get some rest." He pulled away and walked over to the desk, starting to pull out what he needed.
Aurora nodded in response, and watched him for a small while afterwards. She turned her attention back to the paper, finding it still painfully blank. She found herself getting distracted by small things, like the bandaging on her side, or the idea to simply leave and get some fresh air for herself. That would be nice.
She snapped back to the paper and pressed the pen against it, beginning to write.
Peter smiled a little bit when he heard her writing. He wasn't sure what she was putting on the paper, nor did he want to know unless she wanted to share.
He was just happy that it might help.
Aurora continued to write, even flipping the paper over to continue onto the backside. Afterwards, she viewed the paper with disgust. She wanted to rip it into pieces and never see it again! But she couldn't muster up the energy to do it. Maybe this is how she'd tell Peter the rest, and then she'd tuck it away somewhere to show Tony when he wasn't as stressed as he was now.
Peter was deep into his work on his web fluid, not having noticed her stop writing.
She set the paper down, leaning away from it. It did feel somewhat better to have it written down, but she still felt off. Maybe it was the fever, but maybe she just wanted to get away for some solitude.
Peter glanced over and noticed she had stopped but didn't come over. "Hey, feeling any better?" He asked her.
"Somewhat..." She said halfheartedly. Aurora crossed her arms, only to be reminded of the ache in her side. "If you want to read it, that's up to you. You don't have to now, if you're busy, either."
Peter looked surprised at that. "Wait, really? Are you sure?" He asked her.
"Yeah, I mean. It's here. It's done. Might as well." She almost had to force herself to say it. Now that she did, she told herself that she couldn't go back on her word. A sort of trickery for herself.
Peter came over to her and sat down in the chair he had brought over. He wanted to help but he couldn't help if he didn't know what was going on in her head to make her feel the way she did.
Aurora slid the paper towards him, leaning away from it once again. The paper had listed everything she had originally told him, and more. Mostly about the fact she was rendered powerless for a good amount of time and it still stuck with her, while she wished she could just get back to that confident stage she was at before that had happened.
Peter quietly read through it, a small frown on his face but looked up at her when he finished. "...You know, I had a similar situation not that long ago." He told her before crossing his arms on the table. "Did I ever tell you about my homecoming night?" He asked her.
"Your homecoming?" Aura asked, wondering how a homecoming could be that bad. She shook her head. "No, you've never told me."
He chuckled a bit. "Yeah it was... it was something." He replied. "So, the girl I was taking to the dance turned out to be the daughter of one of the bad guys I had been fighting with for the past week or so- He, uh, put two and two together and found me out. He didn't tell her but he did threaten me when she left the car. Told me to stay with her for the night or I'd regret it." He scoffed a little bit.
"So, of course, I didn't do that." He shook his head. "I left her at the dance, I felt and still feel horrible about it... But I went to try to stop whatever he was planning. He had someone waiting for me outside." He tapped the table lightly. "He wasn't holding back. I lost my web shooters and he was going to hit me again when Ned," He laughed a little at the memory. "Ned showed up and shot the weapon with my webs and allowed me to get an opening."
He shifted. "He went to the computer lab to help me track Vulture down. I got to the building he stopped at but it was off. He had said he was leaving town. I realized it was moving day at the tower. He was going to try to rob the jet." He explained. "I confronted him. He... He distracted me." He tensed up a bit.
"He called his wingsuit and I thought it was trying to hit me..." He shook his head. "No. It was taking out the support pillars." He balled his hands up on the table. "T-The entire second floor and the support pillars collapsed on me."
With each word that came out of Peter's mouth, Aurora's eyes widened in disbelief. She remembered seeing the aftermath of that night on the news, but hadn't paid much mind to it. When she became friends with Peter, she never asked about that night either. To a regular civilian, it was just Spiderman doing his job, stopping another criminal.
Still, it was terrifying to imagine that, and she wondered why he hadn't told her before. Then she stilled, realizing it was probably the same reason she hadn't spoken up either. "That's enough weight to kill someone, Peter. You're lucky to have gotten out of there alive!"
He winced a bit but nodded. "I know... It... it was worse cause I didn't have the suit Tony made... he had taken it from me, trying to teach me a lesson but... I nearly died there. I was pinned down, barely able to get my mask off my face... It was so hard to breathe..." He took a deep breath. "I had no way to call for help. I screamed and screamed but nobody heard me. Nobody came."
He shook his head. "I just about surrendered myself to the situation... but I had to keep trying. I had to stop him. I still don't know how I did it but I lifted all of it off of me and got out." He glanced at her. "And you know what I did? I went right back after him." He told her with a sheepish smile. "and we, uh, fought on the plane. Well... the outside of it-"
"Are you kidding me?" She asked, having almost forgotten about her own issues in light of Peter's trauma. "You nearly died, and still went after him?"
Not to mention she was sorta peeved to hear that Tony had taken Peter's suit just to teach him a lesson. "Peter, that's awful! Does Tony even know that happened to you?"
"Uhhhh-" Peter trailed off, trying to remember before paling. "Oh." He chuckled nervously. "No?"
"Peter..." She shook her head in disappointment. Oh. There she went, being a hypocrite again. She hadn't told anything to Tony either.
"Listen- I tried but he distracted me-" He explained. "And I completely forgot-"
"You forgot??" She had a hard time believing that he just up and forgot a building being dropped on him. Then again, Tony was prone to talk over people when they needed to tell him something.
"He offered me a position with the Avengers and a new suit! Like- How was I supposed to bring it up?!" He argued.
And she thought it couldn't get any more crazy. "You were offered a position with the Avengers?? And you turned it down??!" She had assumed so by the fact that Peter was not, in fact, an Avenger.
"Y-Yeah??" He rubbed the back of his head. "Look! I didn't think he was serious!!" He pointed out. "I thought he was testing me!!"
Aurora nearly facepalmed at that. Though, to be fair, Tony would be the type of guy to set up a test like that. But talking about the Avengers? "Man that was a missed opportunity of a lifetime."
Peter just shrugged at her. "I kinda prefer being more of a smaller scale hero." He replied. "Instead of- ya know, saving the entire world. I'm just helping make home a little safer. It meant a lot for him to even imply that I could be one but," He shook his head. "I'm still learning. The whole world is watching the Avengers, Aura."
"That's fair, I guess I shouldn't razz you too hard about it." Now that she thought about it, she probably would've taken the offer, but wouldn't have been ready at all. Especially after how she reacted from one kidnapping.
Overreacted. Her mind corrected her.
"So I get, it. I felt powerless then and I still find times where I do. But... Aurora, we're still human. Powers or not. We're not perfect."
"I know that. And I know I shouldn't be so upset over something like that, but for some reason it just picks away at my mind." She let out a sigh. She still felt flush, but her mind was a bit clearer.
"And that's normal. Unfortunately... But it does get better. Sometimes it doesn't feel like it but it does." He tried to reassure her.
"I believe you, I do." Aura nodded, leaning on the table once more. She felt better about the situation, but now she had to apologize to Kasey. She needed to.
He smiled at that. "You think you can get some rest before we go see her tomorrow?"
"I might, that is, if Daredevil even let's both of us go. If he doesn't, I was planning on letting you go, since you haven't seen her yet." Aurora explained.
Peter looked a little surprised but smiled at that. "I appreciate that. I really wanna go see her if at all possible."
Aurora cracked a tired smile. "I knew you'd want to. And she'd probably want to see you too."
He nodded at that. "But you need to go to sleep." He told her, gently tugging her to her feet.
Aurora got up, even if she was reluctant to. He was right, she just didn't want to. "Peter-"
"Aura," his tone was light and gently teasing. "You will literally fall out of the sky mid swing tomorrow if you don't."
"Okay, probably, but still.." She responded, mimicking his tone. "Plus what if I'm still out by the time Tony calls?"
"I'll fill you in. Promise." He told her. "And if I can make him wait and wake you up then I will."
"You'd better. I'm holding you to that promise." Aurora told him, feeling the tiredness deep into her muscles. It really didn't help that her body still needed the rest to heal her side, so that added to it.
He laughed. "I know you will." He led her to her room and let her crawl into bed. "I'll be in the lab if you need me, okay?"
"Mkay." She pulled the blanket over herself and up to her chin. "Thank you for talking me through all of... that. I appreciate it." She had forgotten she left the paper on the lab table, but she'd worry about that later.
Peter smiled warmly at her. "I'm glad I could help." He replied. "Try to rest, okay?" He turned the light off and shut the door behind him.
"I'll try as best as I can." Aurora replied. She watched the room grow dark and flipped over, her back facing the door. Maybe she'd be able to sleep now.
