Chapter 43

Tony had been searching for Kasey for about an hour and a half, almost two when he got the text from Matt, making him stop and read through it.

She was safe. Thank God. He saw he was taking her back to Matt's to stay the night. He nodded to himself and turned to head back to the tower.

He'd give her some time to cool off. Maybe Matt or Daredevil could help with that.

He dialed Aurora's number to let her know.

Aurora sat straight up in bed, dragging a hand down her face tiredly. She may have been in bed, but she hadn't gotten a wink of sleep. She picked her phone up and answered Tony's call.

"Did you find her?" Aurora asked, rubbing her eyes in an attempt to get the weariness out of them.

"No, but Daredevil did." He answered her. "Said she's exhausted but still pretty upset so he's taking her back to Matt's place."

"That's probably a good idea." She stifled a yawn. "She was pretty upset with us, so keeping her there for tonight was probably the best option."

"Yeah. I'm headed back now. I'll reach out to him again when it's not 6:30 in the morning and see how she's doing." He told her as he grew closer to the tower.

"6:30? Is it really that time already?" She glanced over at a digital clock on the bedside table, realizing it was indeed 6:30 in the morning. This sucked.

"Yep. I take it you haven't been able to sleep?" He asked her gently.

"No, not really. I've been pretty worried about Kasey since she stormed off." Not to mention guilty.

"Well, hopefully now that she's safe, you can actually get some. I'm hoping I can." He chuckled lightly.

"Yeah, that would be nice." She grinned and ran a hand through her hair to somewhat tame it.

"I should be there in a few minutes. I still have to call Peter at some point but it can wait a bit longer."

Aurora swung her legs over the side of the bed, getting up and leaving the room. Since she was up, she thought she might as well get some water. "Alright, see you here then."

"Alright. See you soon." He hung up on her and boosted a bit further to try to get there faster.

She found her way to the kitchen, gathering herself a cup of water. It was nice to know that Kasey was somewhere safe for the night. All of these recent events had made Aurora reconsider her thoughts of the devil of Hell's Kitchen. He was intimidating, yet he had been nothing but nice to them and Kasey as well.

She heard Tony land on the balcony and come inside, the suit vanishing. "Hey," He greeted her.

Aurora gave a sort of half wave, taking a sip out of her water cup. "Hey. So she's alright?"

"According to the Devil, yeah. She's... She'll be alright."

Aurora smirked and took another drink. "I'm glad we have context that the Devil is actually a good guy, otherwise any sane person wouldn't believe that."

He laughed. "Yeah, that's true." He agreed, sitting at the island counter. "I kinda hate to admit it but I owe him a lot for taking care of her."

"I don't know why, but I think he's someone that Kasey can be safe with." She shrugged. "He seems to really care."

He nodded. "And you have to admit, he's pretty good about micromanaging 10 blocks of New York." He laughed.

"That's for sure. From what I've heard about him before, he's strict. Like really strict." She shook her head. "I wouldn't want to find myself on the wrong side with him."

Tony nodded a bit more seriously this time. "I'm glad he didn't consider Kasey to be there."

"Mhm." Aurora hummed simply. The tower was quiet, with the city below just beginning to wake, early workers shuffling off to their jobs. "I guess I should let you get some sleep."

"You should try to get some as well." He told her gently. "You don't have to, but you should try." He gently squeezed her shoulder as he headed off.

"I'll try." She responded with a small smile. She waited for him to head off, and poured the rest of the water down the sink. She headed back to her room, and flopped onto the bed. She wanted to sleep, lord knows she did, but it was difficult.

The rain continued to pour, tapping against her window, mixing with the noises of the city starting to wake up.
