Chapter 34

Claire looked at Matt, pieces falling into place as she realized who he called. "You need to go help Foggy explain this mess." She told him.

"Just... be careful with your leg, please?"

Kasey kept trying to fight back, growling at them. "Let go!" She fussed but when Matt said they were here, she tensed up and tried to pull free faster. "No! I won't let you!" She struggled against them both, snapping in an attempt to bite at them but couldn't sit up enough to reach either of them at all.

Matt wasn't sure if he could even leave Kasey alone with Claire with Kasey acting like this. He really didn't want Claire to end up with a human bite mark. However, he told himself that the sooner Tony got in there, the better.

"I'll be back as quickly as I can." Matt got up and, minding his bad leg, went straight for the door. He grabbed his glasses from where he had set them earlier, slipping them on quickly.

Once he was near the door, he turned to Foggy. "Foggy, I'd like you to meet Tony Stark." He opened the door, making room for them to come in.

Claire nodded at him, "I got her," she reassured him as he left.

Kasey took a shaky breath when he left and kept trying to fight back when a faint gun shot rang out.

It was just loud enough for everyone to hear but only just.

Claire looked up at the faint sound but stopped when Kasey stopped moving, a sharp gasp coming from her.

Claire glanced down at her and furrowed her brow when she saw tears streaming steadily down Kaseys face now and she was still in her grasp.

Foggy heard the faint sound about half way up the stairs behind Matt but knew it was too far off to be a problem for them at the moment.

"Wait what-" He started to ask Matt when the door opened and Tony looked almost just as surprised. After all, He only knew Matt was going to be there.

He chuckled a bit though. "Matt Murdock, I assume?" He asked Matt, stepping inside and letting Aurora come in behind him so they could shut the door.

But that's not what had Matt's attention anymore. It was the fact that the loud racing of Kasey's heartbeat just suddenly stopped with no warning.

Matt turned his head towards the bedroom, the sudden stop of Kasey's heart sending his brain on red alert. "C'mon, we've tried everything we can, but something just isn't right. Her heart keeps spiking and now she's having some sort of night terror? We don't know."

He would have time for introductions and whatnot later, when Kasey had calmed down, or even better, when she was awake and cognizant. Down the stairs he went, towards the bedroom, taking care not to use his bad leg too much. "Right in here."

Aurora stepped inside, and heard the faint sound of a gunshot. It didn't surprise her, seeing as they were in Hell's Kitchen. What did surprise her, however, was that their host seemed to be a blind man.

Which wouldn't have been strange, had it not been that her friend was supposed to be under his watch. She followed behind the others, not wanting to crowd the room more than it was.

Claire looked up at Matt when he came over and nodded at Tony in greeting as he came over but noticed the monitor. "Is she connected?"

Claire turned to see why he was asking and her eyes widened. How did she not notice?? "Yes and that's not a good sign-" She moved around the other side of the bed trying to get Kasey to stir again. "This is like the third time she's gotten this bad in the past hour alone."

Tony swore under his breath when she didn't stir before glancing at Aurora. "Webs, think you can give her a little jumpstart?"

Claire looked up, confused by the request. Jumpstart her with what??

Foggy stood outside the room listening. This was probably the most people he had ever seen in Matt's apartment at any given time.

Matt was stressed, to say the least. There was a teenager who he was supposed to protect dying on his bed, Tony freaking Stark was her ward and also a potential client, and that damned pain in his leg wouldn't go away. So when Tony suggested a 'jumpstart' it was safe to say that threw him for yet another loop.

"Right, uh, yeah. Just... nobody touch her for a couple seconds afterwards, else you might get a little shock too." Aurora came over to the bed quickly, pressing her hands a few short inches below Kasey's collarbone. Once everyone was clear, she sent a quick, potent shock through her fingertips.

Kasey's body jerked at the shock but it didn't seem to work.

Tony furrowed his brow. "Again," He told her, watching the monitor closely.

Claire watched in surprise and just stayed back.

Aurora nodded, and quickly sent another shock into Kasey's body. She was beginning to panic. After all, she's never had to use this ability on any close friends or family before, and has only used it a few times on some unlucky civilians.

Matt winced, hearing every little shock transfer from one girl to the other. It was unsettling. He was praying that Kasey made it.

Kasey's body jerked again but it was accompanied with a sharp breath as well, her heart racing to catch up before settling back down some. It was still a bit fast but it was steady and that's what mattered at the moment.

Tony gave a sigh of relief and clapped his hand on Aurora's shoulder. "Good job." He told her.

Kasey was still unconscious but she was breathing again so Claire took that as a win for now.

"I have no idea what even caused that to happen..." she explained. "One moment she was fighting us off and the next she just... stops."

Aura stepped back, shaking her hands lightly, as if they were wet. She still had the jitters. "Thanks.. I might find a spot to sit down."

Matt let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding. Luck must've been on their side tonight. He shook his head lightly. "I just went to get the door when it happened."

Tony nodded to Aurora, stepping out of the way to let her go sit down. He looked at Matt and back at Kasey with a sigh. "How long has she been out?"

Claire gave a small shrug. "Hour, hour and a half maybe. She collapsed on the stairs after figuring out she pulled all her stitches earlier."

Tony chuckled faintly. "I'm not terribly surprised. She's not one to sit around when she gets hurt like that."

Matt stood next to the wall, leaning somewhat on it while they talked. "Maybe after today, she'll learn to sit back and heal before jumping back into the fire." He replied, listening to her heart. It was so much nicer to hear than the dreaded silence he heard earlier.

Aurora stepped out of the bedroom, finding there to be too many people in there for her liking. She went over to the wall with the windows, sitting down on the floor beneath them.

Claire wanted so badly to snark back at him and she promised herself she would. Later. When they didn't have guests.

Tony chuckled. "She's a teenager. She doesn't know what the words 'sit back' mean." He joked lightly. "That's never been a strong suit of hers. At least not since I met her." He explained.

He turned to Matt slightly. "It seems a bit convenient actually that you were the one taking care of her when I wanted to talk to you about her situation..." He chuckled faintly.

Foggy saw Aurora go sit on the floor and slowly came over. "Hey, you alright?" He asked her.

"It is convenient, and if you're okay with it, we can open a file on her now, and sort of get started with things. After seeing what Kasey's been through, for lack of a better term, I think we can help you with her." Matt explained, his lawyerly side finally coming through.

Now that Kasey was calmed down enough, and didn't seem to be thrashing or spiking for the time being, it gave Matt room to breathe.

"Hm?" Aura glanced up at him, and half-nodded. "Yeah, just.. doing something like that always gives me the jitters. Or maybe it's just the electricity." She laughed softly. "Doesn't help that we were working on something when the call came."

Tony started to nod when Kasey, very suddenly, jerked awake.

Claire was startled from the sudden movement and tried to reach out to stop her but she leapt from the bed to the ceiling, eyes wide and fearful as her heart rate raced.

Tony swore under his breath and looked up at her. "Kase, it's okay, I promise. I'm here, Webs is here. You are safe here."

Kasey turned her head slightly to listen to Tony, staying pressed against the ceiling and started to move when she felt all the wires tangled around her and her heartbeat sped up a bit as she started trying to pull loose from them.

"Woah, hey! You can't do that!" Claire tried to reach up, climbing onto the bed to reach but as soon as she got too close, Kasey snapped at her.

"Wait-!" Tony quickly ran forward to interfere.

Claire gave a cry as Tony jumped onto the bed and pulled her back, putting himself between her and Kasey as she bit into his shoulder.

But instead of the crunch of his shoulder, Matt heard her bite metal.

Tony gritted his teeth. Yeah he was gonna be sore there for awhile but since had focused a large chunk of nanotechnology there, it kept her from breaking skin.

Foggy was about to ask when he heard the noise coming from the bedroom. "That doesn't sound good-"

Matt stepped forward quickly, putting his hands up as if he was approaching a wild animal. "Kasey, you need to relax, we're all friends here and no one is trying to hurt you."

Matt tried to refrain from yelling, knowing that it might just further overwhelm her. On one hand, he was glad she was awake, on the other, he wasn't so happy to have her climbing on his ceiling and biting people. Maybe he needed an exorcist.

Aurora lifted her head, looking towards the bedroom. From where she was sitting, she was able to see Kasey jump to the ceiling. "Seems she's up."

Tony glanced at him a bit, having let the nanotech protect more than his shoulder in case she tried again.

She pulled back from him and refocused on getting loose from the wires when Matt spoke.

She froze up all together. She stayed on the ceiling but she just... sat there, processing.

She looked confused and upset when Tony looked to her to see why she stopped.

"Kase?" He tried carefully, letting Claire off the bed.

She tensed up at the name, taking a shaky breath. "...N-no..." Her voice was shaky like she was trying not to break down. "I-I'm not f-falling for your t-tricks!" She was shaking as she pressed closer to the ceiling.

A look of confusion crossed Matt's face, until he remembered what she had been muttering earlier, when she was still out of it. Something about lying. So perhaps she thought she was back there, wherever her nightmare took place?

"Kasey, we're not trying to trick you, we're trying to help you. You just woke up, please believe me when I tell you you're okay." Matt pleaded with her.

Aurora pushed herself up, going towards the room to view the commotion. Whatever had a hold on Kasey was gripping her right, and was reluctant to let her go. Even if it was her own mind betraying her.

She choked back as sob, shaking her head. "I-I don't believe you! I-I can't! P-please... why can't you just leave me alone?" She cried pressing as close to the ceiling as she could. "What do you want with me..."

Tony realized what she thought was happening. At least to some degree and his heart ached, trying to figure out how to help.

He glanced at Aurora but knew Kasey might unintentionally reveal her if he mentioned her so... "Kase, I can call Peter if that'll help."

She took a shaky breath, slightly tilting her head to listen to him. She was tense, unsure what that meant. Had they found and caught Peter too?

"Fri, call Peter." Tony told her and placed the phone on speaker.

Kasey tensed as she listened to it ring.
