Chapter 31

Aurora wondered where Tony had found himself, and hoped that the men hadn't found him. For their sake. Making her way further into the building, she found herself somewhere near the middle, as the hallways and rooms no longer had windows.

As she walked she could see there were rooms but only because of the heavily secured doors spaced apart.

"No, this isn't creepy at all." Aurora went up to one of the doors, feeling for any cracks or crevices she could grip onto. After all, she was very curious, by nature.

It was a sealed metal door but a card swipe was next to it.

"Some of these guys really need tech upgrades." Aurora muttered to herself, fiddling with the card swipe. She had messed around with enough tech and security items in Tony's lab to be familiar with them.

It took some time but eventually it beeped and the door unlocked and slid open.

The room was incredibly dark inside as there were no lights on or windows.

Aurora activated her night vision lenses, but it was still pretty dark. She stepped into the room, treading lightly and carefully.

As she walked into the room, she felt herself almost tripping on something sticky and string-like.

Aurora made an expression of disgust, pausing to bend down. She winced lightly but reached out to touch what she had tripped on. "Gross..." She had no idea what was in this room, but there was a chill going down her spine.

To her surprise it felt like webbing?? She heard something shifting from somewhere in the decently sized room.

"What is-?" A look of dread flooded to her face, and she tried to brush off any of the webbing that had got onto her. Of course she'd wander into something like this! She whipped her head around at the shifting sound, slowly backing up.

A rather large ape-like creature with a spiders' torso, landed on the ground, snarling at the intruder to its home.

"Woahhh buddy, nice spider-ape thingy-" She held her hands up defensively, slowly stepping backwards, away from the creature. She really had found the Minotaur of the labyrinth.

It took another couple steps towards her, getting ready for a fight as it bared its fangs at her.

"I don't want to fight you, I just... stepped into the wrong room is all." This thing was freaky, but she could imagine how angry it was, being trapped in a dark room, with someone all of the sudden bursting in.

It stared at her for a moment but slowly seemed to relax and sniffed at her, curiously. It tilted its head at her, a small rumble in the back of its throat as it realized she didn't want to hurt it.

"Oh, heh... look at that." There was still fear gripping at her chest, but it was a good sign that the creature seemed to relax. "Uh.. good boy?"

It curiously reached out and tried to poke at her. He hadn't seen someone like her before... She was dressed so strangely compared to those he met before...

"Curious fella, aren't you?" She wondered aloud, looking him over once again. He was pretty freaky looking, but he also didn't belong here. She couldn't imagine what they did to creatures like him around here.

He watched her observe him and gently poked at her side with a tilt of his head but stopped when he heard faint noises from outside.

Not quite in the hallway but getting closer.

Aurora whipped her head towards the hall, and turned her back towards the creature. At least she knew the guy in the room wouldn't harm her. She couldn't say the same for whoever was out of the room.

To her surprise, it pulled her back as if to protect her, and glanced out of the room before stepping all the way out. It was clear for now but it wouldn't be for much longer. Something was coming their way.

"That was... really sweet. Hm." Aurora took the opportunity to step further back into the room. Maybe there was a back exit or something. Although she would hate to leave the creature, maybe she'd be able to come back for him.

He turned and looked at her when she looked around and gestured for her to come out. If she was fast she could get out. He knew there was no other way out of that room.

Aurora nodded silently, slipping under him, and into the hallway. She turned towards him and spoke quietly. "I'll try and come back, if I'm able. Thanks buddy."

A rumble in his throat was his response as he stood guard and made sure no one would come through and get to her with ease.

The end of the hall had two locked doors that were much higher security then she had seen so far.

She crept down the hall, locating the locked doors. She noticed the upgrade in security and sighed. "I rescind my earlier security comment."

It required a thumb print scan, key card, and a password. Whatever this was, it was locked up tight.

"They really don't want just anyone walking in here." Aurora knew she wouldn't have time to decode all of those security measures, considering the sounds of someone coming down the hall earlier. This whole mission was technically time sensitive, and she had just been turning a blind eye to the ever ticking clock.

The sound of someone trying to open the doors at the other end of the hall had her spidermonkey friend tensed up and growling.

She heard them still fighting with the door, trying to get it open. Apparently it was not having it.

A little more desperately this time, she hauled off and punched the door again. It bent and groaned under her fist, but didn't fully open. At most, it just widened the crack between the doors enough to peek through.

She could make out a large mechanical ring in the center of the room but not a lot of details due to the lights being off.

She suddenly heard the door get blasted from it's hinges and the familiar noise of Tony's suit fill the hall. "We- WOAH!" He stepped back at the sight of the angry spider monkey. "What the hell-?!"

Aurora jerked her gaze in the direction of Tony, sprouting a grin. She was glad to see it was him and not the others. She turned away from the door, stepping towards Tony and the spider monkey. Holding one hand on her side, she held her free one up to the creature before speaking to Tony. "For a second there I thought you were someone else. Meet my new friend! ...Can I keep him?"

The Spider Monkey stopped when she held her hand up to him and watched.

Tony raised an eyebrow. "And where on earth do you think he's gonna stay?" He asked her, a bit sarcastically. "Cause there's not enough space at the tower."

He wasn't opposed to the idea, mostly cause he didn't want it staying here.

"There is plenty if you move a car or three out of the garage." She shot back, just as sarcastically.

"He is not living in the garage, Webs." He replied, crossing his arms. "I'm sure we can work something out but Pepper will chew me out if I let it stay at the tower."

"Well I'm not leaving him here. He's too nice to be a test subject. Plus, he'd be a good guard dog- er, guard spider monkey." Aura tried to convince him. Even if he said no... she had her ways of getting things done.

Tony sighed. "I agree we aren't leaving him here but... We'll have to come back for him. We need to go and we can't bring him with us right now-" He tried to explain to her.

Aurora glanced back at the creature and then again at Tony. "Fine, but we have to come back soon, I don't know what they'll do to him."

"We will. I promise. But we need to go now." He pressed. "Friday is finding the quickest route that isn't just blasting the walls open-" He sounded stressed.

"We'll come back for you buddy, just hang in there." She told the spider monkey, and then turned towards Tony.

"What's wrong? Usually you wouldn't be so quick to up and leave like this. Did you get caught?" She questioned, before it dawned on her. After all a lot of this was lining up anyway... "Is it Kasey?"

Tony tensed a bit but nodded firmly. "Yes." He confirmed before Friday gave him a path to take. "This way." He told her, quickly heading for the doors he blasted open.

The Spider Monkey tilted its head at her but watched them go before disappearing back into its room.

Aurora followed after as swiftly as she could. If something was wrong with Kasey, she'd have to forgo her current revenge/intel mission for now. It wasn't worth ghosting a friend in need.
