Chapter 23
Aurora used the time waiting for the sun to set to test out her upgrades, and get what she liked to call a pre-workout. Just some basic exercises to stretch and get ready for the night. She heard some sirens in the distance and some gunfire. It seemed to be towards the bank.
"Bingo." Aura took off in the direction of the gunfire, swinging between buildings on the way there. She came upon the scene, sticking to the side of a skyscraper to see the action.
Cops were trying to chase them out of the building but that wasn't really going very well. There was lots of gunfire back and forth.
Aurora attached some webbing to the building and lowered herself onto a balcony of the building, finding an entrance through there. Finding her way to the elevators, she pried open the door, planning to propel herself down to the floor where the shooters were holed up.
As she got closer, she could hear them firing and yelling.
"No time like the present." She switched on her stealth mode, waiting for the color to switch before dropping down in the elevator shaft. She landed softly on the elevator, lifting the maintenance hatch and slipping inside. Prying open the doors, she snuck onto the active floor, quickly taking in the scene.
There were about five of them, hiding behind stuff and poking out to fire at the cops.
Aurora counted them out, and devised a plan to unarm them. She crawled up onto the ceiling, using her webs, she stole two of their weapons, securing them to the ceiling, out of reach. "Hello boys."
They startled and shot at her. "WHAT THE HELL?!"
Aurora detached from the ceiling, falling behind a stack of cardboard boxes. She crept behind them, poking out to stick two other guns onto the ceiling. All that was left was the main guy...
He stumbled back away from her. "S-Stay away!"
"Wow. I would've thought you'd be braver than that, y'know, with all the shooting at cops and stuff." She spoke with a flat tone, snatching his gun with her webbing and bringing it back to her hands. With a bit of work, she was able to bend it mostly in half.
His eyes widened. "W-What the hell-"
"Ready to hand yourselves in, or are we gonna tango first?" She asked, crossing her arms over her chest.
"F-Fine! We surrender!" they held their hands up.
"That was... surprisingly easy." She muttered, going up behind a couple of them, nudging them towards the door.
They stumbled out the door and the cops arrested them. "Thanks for the help."
"Once their guns were gone they tucked their tails and gave up." She shrugged.
"Heh, figures. A bit of firepower makes people think they are able to do more than they could before."
"That's for sure." She nodded and thwipped out a strand of webs, connecting to a building opposite of them. "Keep up the good work."
They nodded back. "You too." They replied as they finished putting them away.
Aurora propelled herself upwards, onto another high rise building. Honestly, she had hoped for something a bit more testing.
She could see the sun was starting to dip below the horizon. It'd be time soon.
"Better start heading back." She spoke softly to herself, swinging along the buildings back towards the tower.
Tony was finishing getting ready when she arrived. "Just in time." He grinned at her.
"Just had to run to town, grab a few things, stop the wimpiest bunch of shooters, y'know, the usual." She replied with a smirk.
Tony laughed. "Gave up easy, huh? Not surprised. The normal guys have been doing that more recently."
"To be fair, if I was a criminal, I wouldn't want to get beat by someone who crawls on the ceiling either." Aurora shrugged.
Tony laughed harder. "Fair enough! Maybe they have a fear of spiders??"
"Hm. Funny. Very funny." She shook her head, trying not to laugh at the horrible joke.
"What? It could be true!" He argued with a cheeky grin.
"It could be, but last time I counted, I didn't have eight legs." She responded with a roll of her eyes. "Ready?"
Tony nodded. "Everything is ready. So let's get going." He activated the nano armor and headed to the balcony.
"The nano suit is always so cool-" She jogged along after him, stepping onto the ledge of the balcony. "Race you there old man." She stepped off and took off towards Hell's Kitchen.
"Hey! You didn't give the warning!" He flew after her with a grin on his face.
Aurora raced against him, finding this to be sort of fun, as opposed to everything else that they had to deal with in the past few days.
Tony caught up pretty quickly with a grin on his face. "That as fast as you can go kiddo?"
"Well I don't exactly have a rocket strapped to my back like some people!" She retorted.
"And who's problem is that?? I believe you challenged me, ma'am."
"You're also an adult and shouldn't have taken me seriously. So if anything, that's on you." Aurora laughed.
"You know I don't turn down challenges!" He laughed.
"Oh, for sure. I know that well enough." She took one last swing, flinging herself up into the air before sticking the landing on top of a medium sized building.
Tony landed next to her. "Alright. How do we want to go about this?"
Aurora stepped onto the ledge of the building, finding the building and motioning towards it. "If we get to the roof of that building, there's a fire escape going down the side of it. From there we can access the windows to nearly every floor."
"Perfect. Let's do that then." He agreed. "Lead the way."
"Alright then." The reality of their mission had set in, and her nerves were on edge. She made her way over to the fire escape, silently climbing onto the rusted metal.
Tony followed her up once he deactivated the armor, having it on standby.
Aurora kept her voice quiet as they went. "You can see we sealed the windows shut." Some of her webbing was still left on the windowsills as they went down.
"Smart move." He agreed, quietly. "We can use one of these to get in."
Aurora found her way to one of the sealed webs, pulling it away with ease. After all, the webs became weak after all that time, withering away to spiderweb durability.
Tony helped her open the window and released a small drone inside to check for anyone nearby. "Seems clear. Let's move quickly."
"Copy that." Aurora slipped inside the window. Stepping silently along the floor to make room for Tony.
Tony stepped in as well, moving quietly with her. "Lead the way."
Aurora tapped the switch on her neck, activating the night vision setting in her lenses. She didn't want to risk alerting any of the Black Out members by turning on the lights. She led the way through the room and into the hallways.
Tony stayed close, letting the drone help keep an eye out.
Aurora stepped silently, following the hallways and rooms, finding herself back in the lab. "This is where we got the vials, files, and computer."
Tony nodded and reactivated the suit. He noticed they had mostly cleaned up the mess the three had made but a few things were still strewn about.
He walked over to the filing cabinet and started pulling folders out and putting them in a bag he had brought with him.
"Grab anything you think we can use."
"Gotcha." Aurora nodded, wandering about the lab room. It looked different than how she had imagined it, since she couldn't exactly see it last time she was there. She picked up a few stray papers, sticking them together and adding them to Tony's pile.
Tony just kept digging around, making a small pile of things as he went, he had Friday watching any cameras that were around for any sign of people coming.
