Chapter 13
Over the next couple days, Kasey didn't come out of her room or talk much. She only ate because of her metabolism for the most part.
Tony hated seeing her like that and had promised her he'd be doing all the research he could to figure out how to possibly get her home or a way to travel between the two.
It had been almost a week since it had happened now and Kasey had just told Tony goodnight after eating dinner. She disappeared into her room and quietly told Friday not to say anything for at least a few hours.
She slipped out the window with her suit in her backpack and mask over her face as she slid down the side of the building and into the night.
She had to get more answers.
Aurora didn't know why she had chosen tonight, but it just felt right. It had been around a week since the incident, and she hoped enough time had passed where it wouldn't be too suspicious if she paid a small visit to Hell's Kitchen. She hadn't wanted to wait too long, in case the building they were kept in was cleared out and empty.
After waiting quietly for the sun to set, Aurora donned her suit and mask, and slipped out her bedroom window. She wanted revenge, for herself and her friends.
Kasey made her way to Hell's kitchen and pulled her hood up over her face, her mask back in her bag. Her heart was racing as she walked the unfamiliar streets, looking for the cafe. If she could find that then she could get back to where they had been. She was sure of it.
Aurora made her way via rooftop, preferring to take the quick, mostly covert, path. She had the same idea as Kasey, which was to find the diner and retrace her steps. She remembered every detail of their escape, every roof they leapt off of, and every window she webbed shut.
Kasey kept to herself as she worked to locate the cafe in the quickly darkening city as the sunset. She finally caught the scent and slid into the alleyway a few buildings down. Okay... now to change which should be pretty easy with the practice she had. She slid into a safe hidden place and started to open her backpack.
It took a little while to find the cafe, as she didn't memorize the drive back to the tower. The cafe looked a little more run down than she had imagined, but it was still a pleasant sight nonetheless. She moved a few blocks away, in the direction they had come from, until she found the rickety fire escape they had gone down.
Kasey stopped and shut her backpack, hearing someone coming and tensed up, ready to fight. She stayed quiet and listened closely.
Aurora hesitated where she stood, having heard something from the alleyway below. She crept over to the ledge, peeking down into the alley. Tapping the patch on her neck, her lenses turned to night vision and she smirked. No freakin way. Setting up some webs, she slid down so she hovered in front of Kasey. "Look what the cat dragged in!"
Kasey startled so badly she just about slammed the back of her head into the wall. "Wha- wait- Aurora?!" She hissed, keeping her voice low.
"That's Interweb to you." Aurora joked, letting go of her web and flipping over to stand in front of Kasey. She didn't exactly know how to phrase her reasoning for being here, but assumed Kasey was there for similar reasons. She sighed and crossed her arms, figuring she could tell the truth. "I came to... tie up some loose ends from our little escapade, you?"
Kasey stood up, slinging her backpack onto her back. "Something like that." She replied, not giving a complete answer. She hesitated before shaking her head a bit. "You shouldn't be here..."
"Neither should you, Kasey. I would place bets on the fact Tony doesn't know you're here either." Aurora irked a brow, waiting to see if she was right to assume so.
She tensed a bit at that, "looking" away. "Itdoesn'tmatter..." She mumbled softly.
Setting a hand on Kasey's shoulder, Aurora grinned. "I won't snitch on you, as long as we can get out of here better than last time."
She quickly shook her head. "I don't want you coming with me. I can't risk that..."
"Now you know I'm not going back home after I've been planning this for a week. Plus, we've gotta watch each other's back, right?" Aurora didn't want Kasey going into it alone either.
Kasey shook her head again. "I- this isn't your fight-" She tried to argue with her.
"It may not be entirely my fight, but what those jerks have done to us, especially you-" She sighed, leaning against the alley wall. "I can't forgive them for that."
"I'm not asking you to. They don't deserve it. But I'm asking you to let me handle it." She explained. "Pl-!" She stopped and turned her head towards the exit of the alleyway like a dog on alert.
Aurora was about to interject when something grabbed Kasey's attention. Aurora went silent as well, quietly pushing off of the wall and turning towards the exit.
"Someone's in trouble. They were trying to call for help but it sounds like they got muffled-" She quickly explained, starting to leave the alleyway, still in her civilian clothes.
"That hearing of yours really is something else." Aurora commented, following Kasey. Her own mission could wait for now. "You don't even have your mask on, Kase!" She hissed out.
She didn't stop. "If we don't move now then they could get hurt more or worse-" was her response. "Just do your best to keep up." She sprinted out of the alley way, following her senses which had finally kicked back in.
"Alright but don't come to me when Tony rips you a new one for possibly revealing your identity." Aurora muttered, running to catch up with Kasey. Hopefully this situation would be a simple one.
Kasey guided her towards an alleyway a bit further down and turned the corner after stopping and listening for how many she could sense. Not many. Just a few. One of them being the victim. She took a deep breath before turning the corner and calling out, "Hey! Leave them alone!"
The four people in the alley were startled at her sudden appearance. "What the- Who the hell are you?" one of them demanded.
"Just someone who isn't gonna stand by and let you hurt someone else." She replied, getting into a defensive stance.
They scoffed. "Deal with miss hero while I take care of this pesky one."
The other two started to move towards Kasey. She heard them prepping guns in their hands and took a deep breath. She refused to let them know she was blind. She sharpened her focus onto them and her surroundings.
Aurora came in behind Kasey, quickly casing the situation. She wasn't able to sense how many people there were from a distance away like her friend was able to, but she was always quick to take in her surroundings.
"Nope." Aurora lifted her hands, shooting some webbing over one of the enemies's eyes, in an attempt to throw that one off his rhythm.
They gave a cry of surprise and stumbled backward, trying to pry it off.
Kasey smirked a bit at that and lunged at the other one while he was taken off guard and disarmed him with a spin kick to the stomach and her hand on the gun, prying it away. "I'll take that, thank you." She emptied it out onto the ground and discarded it.
The one standing there with the victim gritted their teeth. He was outnumbered unless the other two figured out what to do.
"Let them go." Kasey demanded firmly.
He shook his head. "I don't think I will."
Kasey started to move forward when one of the others lunged at her again, making her jump back and start the fight with them again. "You won't stay down, will you?" She grumbled.
Aurora hopped around her friend's fight, going straight for the one she had webbed. Before she gave him the chance to get the original webbing off, she swooped down, kicking his legs out from under him.
He cried out as he fell backward, still blinded by the web and dropped the gun in surprise.
Kasey tussled with the guy back and forth and heard the victim, a lady it sounded like, cry out in alarm through the muffle as the man started to pull them away.
She gritted her teeth and leapt and kicked the dude in the side of the head, knocking him out for now and rushed at the other. "I'm not letting you leave with them!"
He was surprised when she tackled him to the ground, letting go of the victim who scrambled backwards and watched Kasey struggle with the man.
He kicked her off and she got to her feet in front of the victim, scooting back, trying to shield them. "Hey, get them out of here." She called towards Aurora. "I can handle this."
"Stay down." Aurora warned the webbed man, stepping on his arms and webbing his hands to the concrete. She raced over besides the woman, watching Kasey for a moment.
"I'll come back as soon as I get her far enough away." She turned to the lady, scooping her up in her arms. "Sorry about this, but it's easier for me to carry you out." Aurora apologized, avoiding the other criminals as she bolted from the alleyway.
Kasey gave a small nod as she stood firm between the man and the other two.
The man growled at her. "You shouldn't have done that. Now you're gonna die playing the hero."
Kasey just braced herself and shook her head. "That's your first mistake," She lunged towards the man and they started their fight. "She's the hero with good morals as far as I can tell," She got behind the man and latched onto him like she did the guard, her voice low and cold. "I'm not a hero."
The man cried out in pain when she pulled his arms back and twisted them in uncomfortable positions. "What the hell?!"
"You're lucky I'm restraining myself." She hissed as she worked to restrain the man, her sole focus on him. Her senses were screaming at her to finish him to make him stop for good. She finally took him to the ground and worked on trying to fully restrain him when suddenly a hot pain spiked through her right side from the back.
She gasped in shock, instinctively releasing the man to throw her hand around her side where she felt warm liquid seeping out quickly. What just-?! She gave a cry when the man knocked her off of him and grabbed her and threw her against the nearest brick wall. She felt the air leave her lungs as she hit the ground.
Her senses were muddled as she pushed to her feet. No, focus. She told herself and forced them back into focus and tried to go at the man again only for him to dodge her and she felt something sharp cut deep through her pants and into the back of her left calf, making her leg buckle from under her, sending her to the ground.
She grunted when she hit the pavement, her senses pulsing in and out. It was dizzying. She quickly rolled over and tried to swing at the man but he grabbed her wrist and started bending her arm the wrong way making her cry out, feeling something start to give out.
He pulled her to her feet by her wrist and slammed her up against the wall with her facing it as he held the knife in his other hand.
"This'll teach you, hero or whatever, to not get into fights that don't concern you." She felt the knife dig into the same spot as the gun wound making her cry out before feeling it up against her neck. "Any last words?" He hissed into her ear.
She didn't hear him, her senses were screaming and deafening her. Everything was muddled and dizzying and nothing looked right anymore- She was just trying to keep her eyes open, praying Aurora got back in time-
Aurora had taken the woman a few blocks away, before finally deeming the location far enough away from the alley. She set the lady down, motioning for her to leave. "Call the cops, and let them know where you were assaulted. Tell them that you slipped away and ran as far as you could before calling."
Matt Murdock, or rather, Daredevil, had picked up on the signs of a struggle from his place upon the ledge of a roof. The sounds of scuffling feat and fists hitting flesh, someone cried out once or twice. He discerned that whoever was attacked was fighting back, but was outnumbered.
Bursting into action, he took to running, straight towards the sounds of the scuffle. It was luckily nearby, being only a couple rooftops away from where he had been. He found himself above the fight, locating where each aggressor was. He took a step back and leapt forward, dropping down on one of the attackers.
For the most part, he fought silently, pulling the main aggressor away from Kasey and tossing him to the ground. He focused on immobilizing the men, by knocking them unconscious and tossing them to the side with ease.
It was a given that he sustained some injuries of his own from the fighting, but he was able to dodge and avoid most hits.
Kasey dropped to the ground when the man suddenly released her, confusing the heck out of her why she didn't feel blood pooling from her throat. She shifted weakly to lean against the wall, panting heavily. Was that Aurora??
She forced her senses to focus as much as she could and she saw glimpses as it weaved in and out of focus of... a man?? attacking the others- There were only about two to deal with she assumed as she saw glimpses of the one that was going to kill her and the one, she assumed, that shot her. Oh, wait the third one was up now.
She felt like she was watching a stop motion film that was missing way too many frames as it faded in and out. She really hoped this guy wasn't just beating them up to steal her away or do something to her instead-
Matt made quick work of the aggressors, assuming that they were low level muggers, who hadn't expected to get their asses handed to them. He brushed his knuckles off, having felt some sort of silky, stringy substance that had been on one of the attacker's faces. After he had finished, he hesitated, making sure they were unconscious before going to check on Kasey.
He stood in front of her for a moment, before speaking in a softer tone than was normal. He could smell the iron in her blood, so he didn't bother asking the usual 'are you alright?' question. "You're hurt, are you able to walk?"
He hadn't noticed it before, but her heartbeat was irregular. Tilting his head slightly, he focused on it. It wasn't just an adrenaline spike, it was abnormal. Beating faster and stronger than a normal heart.
Kasey only saw small glimpses of him approaching her and shifted a bit to lean away. She was pretty sure he said something but all she could hear was the blood pumping in her ears and her senses screaming at her. She just sorta stared at him blankly, barely conscious before fully just blacking out and starting to fall over.
"Oh-" Matt threw his arms out, catching her before she fell. "I'll take that as a no then." He had half a mind to take her to the hospital, but something just wasn't adding up here. There were signs that there were more people here, and signs that there was a full on fight between this girl and the muggers. Not to mention the heartbeat...
After battling with his decisions, he picked her up, placing her over his shoulder so he could move easier. It wasn't the best way to carry someone who's hurt, but it was all he could do for now. He turned and scaled the building, making use of any fire escapes or metal pieces hanging off the walls.
Aurora finally made it back to the alleyway, and was stricken with confusion. The men were knocked out on the ground, Kasey was not where Aurora had left her, and- She looked up, catching a glimpse of a red suit and Kasey being carried off.
"Oh you've got to be shitting me."
There was blood around the alleyway and smeared against the wall as if someone had slid down it and to the ground. Someone had been sitting there but it was clearly not one of the men.
Looking back up, the red suit and Kasey were gone.
