Chapter 112
Kasey meanwhile had crawled back into the fort and found Matt and curled up next to him. "I brought garlic bread."
Matt sat up, grinning over at her. "I know, I can smell it. What was the whole thing with the phone?"
"Nothing to worry about anymore." She took a bite of one of the pieces of bread.
"I don't know about that. Especially when I can hear you tearing through this place yelling about a picture." Matt took a piece of garlic bread to eat.
"Well it's dealt with now-" She huffed.
"I'll hold you to that." Matt started on his piece, finding it to taste just as good as the night before. "Sleep well?"
"Really well until Aura woke me up." She replied.
"Sorry about that." Matt grinned. "You feeling better?"
"Y-Yeah... Still a bit... stressed but... better." She agreed softly.
Matt listened and nodded. "That's good, I'm glad to hear it. What I said last night still stands. If you ever start feeling like that again, please come to me or Claire."
She nodded as she leaned against him. "Thank you..."
Matt wrapped an arm around her lovingly. "You don't need to thank me. I'd go to the ends of the earth for you."
Kasey smiled tearfully at that and leaned into the embrace. "And I for you..." she replied softly.
He needed to figure things out for her. He wanted to give her a life where she didn't need to cower in some big tower. A life where she could be happy.
Kasey was happily nestled against him when she looked up, hearing Peter and Aurora running around.
"Gonna have to be faster than that Pete!" Aura shouted over her shoulder, before skidding around a corner.
He sped up, sliding around the corner after her. "Come back here!"
"Oh shit-" She continued, bolting down the hallway towards the fort.
Peter sprinted after her as fast as he could.
Matt simply shook his head. "I don't know where you kids get that energy this early."
"Yeah- I don't know where we get it either." She laughed softly.
"Kasey-!" Aura shrieked, making a beeline for the room.
"Incoming." Matt spoke flatly, stifling back another yawn.
Peter laughed. "Do you think she's gonna help you?!"
Kasey groaned tiredly. "Aura I don't have energy for thissss-"
She flung herself into the room, gripping the door shut behind her. She pressed against the doorframe to try and hold it shut. "I think I've caused a good amount of problems today, huh?" She asked Kasey with a laugh.
"You had energy when you were fighting Peter over his phone." Matt poked her jokingly.
Kasey groaned when Matt poked her and sighed. "Yeah but that was differentttt-" She whined.
Peter kept trying to open the door. "Come on Aura!"
"Nope! Sorry!" She called through the door.
Matt chuckled. "I suppose you're right. I guess you worked your energy out already."
"Don't make me come through the vents, Aura!" He threatened with a laugh.
Kasey rolled her eyes. "As if you could, Peter."
"Is that a challenge?!"
"Peter, I know for a fact you can't. If I hardly fit then you definitely won't."
Aurora snickered from her side of the door. "That would be hilarious. Looks like you're stuck out there and we're in here."
"You guys sure like your vents huh?" Matt asked with a laugh.
"They cozy." Kasey replied with a small laugh of her own.
Peter kept pushing against the door. "I will come around to the window Aura!"
"I can safely say I don't fit in most vents, so I haven't had the pleasure of knowing how cozy they are." He shrugged.
"By the time you do, I'll be on the other side of the door." She snickered. "Nice try."
"Not if Kasey stops you!" He argued.
Kasey hummed, staying put in her snuggling position, in fact, even curling up and lying her head in his lap. "No. I have no part in this."
"I don't think she's going anywhere, Peter. Sorry." Matt spoke up with an amused grin.
"Ha! Try again Pete-" She laughed.
He groaned. "Fine..." He tried pushing against the door again. "Come on-"
Kasey smiled smugly from Matt's lap.
A devious thought crossed her mind. She waited until he was pushing against the door and jumped to the side.
Matt hummed boredly. "You gonna just hang around the tower today?"
Peter gasped as the door suddenly opened and fell inside.
Kasey snickered a bit at that but shrugged at Matt. "Dunno. Kinda wanna get out and about but... you know."
Aurora laughed. "All according to plan."
Matt sighed. "I know. Maybe we can see about putting a plan together."
She nodded. "I just wanna get out for a bit. Do... something." She sighed.
Peter looked up at her with a glare. "How dare you-"
"Uh oh-" She shrunk back. Probably wasn't the best idea to open the door after all.
Matt thought for a moment. "I can see about us going out for bit, maybe even if it's just for lunch."
He lunged at her in an attempt to pin her down.
"Lunch would be nice." She smiled at that.
"Ah! No-!" She yelped and jumped backwards.
"Maybe find a small diner or something. I'm sure Tony knows some good spots." Matt mused.
Peter tackled her to the ground with a grin. "Gotcha!"
Kasey nodded. "Probably! Happy might too-" She smirked when Peter caught Aurora.
"Happy might want to come with." Matt chuckled. He had only met the man a couple of times, but he seemed to care for the kids.
Aurora landed on the ground with a soft 'oof'.
"He'd probably agree to giving us a lift." She agreed as she listened to the other two.
Peter was laughing as he kept her pinned to the ground. "You shouldn't have let me in!"
"He's a nice guy." Matt nodded. Lied sometimes, but that was really only to protect who they were talking about.
"Hey, I still count it as a win cause you fell." She smirked.
Kasey nodded at that but laughed when Peter got offended.
"Only cause you caught me off guard!" He huffed.
Matt found it amusing that the two of them were still tussling.
"I'm counting you getting offended so easily as another point for me." She laughed.
"What?! That's not fair! Take that back!" He demanded, keeping her pinned.
"Hmm. No." She responded with the same smirk.
"Take it back!" He started to tickle her as he kept her pinned.
"Hey!" She tried to wriggle away from him, refusing to relent.
"Nope!" He replied, still tickling her.
"I'm not taking it back-!" She managed to say between laughs.
"Then suffer!" He declared ticking her more viscously.
Kasey chuckled. "Should we interfere or?"
Matt shrugged. "If you want to. I'll probably stay out of it though."
"Fine!" She gave in. "I take it back!"
"Good!" He pulled away from her with a victorious grin.
Kasey chuckled. "Seems they're figuring it out."
"Jerk!" She wriggled out from under him, her sides aching from laughing so much.
"Want to go ask Tony about some time out?" He was worried Tony wouldn't allow it.
Peter laughed and let her go. "Have you learned your lesson?"
Kasey hesitated but nodded. "Yeah. I... I don't know if he'll agree though..."
"Probably not. You should know that." She told him, inching closer towards the door.
"We can at least try. The worst he would say is no." Matt shrugged lightly.
"Then you should start running again, huh?" He grinned.
Kasey nodded. "Right."
Aurora squinted at him, before turning tail and booking it in the opposite direction.
Matt shook his head at the two and pushed himself up, offering Kasey his hand.
Peter rushed after her.
Kasey chuckled and took his hand. "Let's go see if he's still in the lab."
Matt nodded and headed out of the fort room, and back towards the labs. He had at least memorized where those were. "Try not to jump him this time."
Aurora made it to the stairwell and shot some webbing upwards, choosing to go upwards.
Peter came into the stairwell, just in time to watch her go up and gave chase to her, having to leap up the stairs.
Aurora looked down and stuck her tongue out at him, before climbing onto the highest stair level.
"I'm still coming for you Aura!" he called up to her as he leapt up the stairs.
"You'll have to find me first!" She used the distance to her advantage, attempting to find a good hiding spot. Kasey's cloaking really would've come in handy right about now.
"Then you better hide fast!" He replied as he got to the top.
Jeez he was fast. She literally had no idea where to hide. So she took off and dipped into a random room, shutting all the lights off. She dipped into a closet, shoving herself behind a good amount of clothes.
He stalked down the halls, looking for her. "Come on out, Aura!" He called with a grin.
She pressed herself against the back wall of the closet, covering her mouth to keep her breathing quiet.
He started peeking into rooms and searching around for her.
Aurora held her breath and strained her ears, listening for any hint of him.
He was in the room across from her now. "Where are you??" He called out, still grinning.
The new location made her shiver, and she tried not to move.
He entered another room on that side of the hall. "You're here somewhere..." He mumbled.
She sat still and quiet, and decided to give him one singular hint. She knocked once against the wall of the closet.
He whirled around, listening and grinning. "Ah- There you are." He headed to the other side of the hall and started searching the rooms.
Aurora wasn't sure if she had just made a terrible mistake, or a good one. So she sat tight, and listened.
"I'm coming to find you!!" Peter called as he grew closer.
She swore she could hear her own heartbeat thumping in her ears and heard him push the door open slowly and step into the room.
Silent and still. That's what she did. She dared not to make a single move.
And the closet slid open and he grinned as he pulled the clothes away. "Found you!"
Aurora yelped, finding the suspense had left her heart pounding out of her chest. "You enjoyed toying around didn't you?"
He laughed. "Absolutely."
She stepped forward. "I oughtta slug you-"
Peter grinned and leapt out of the way and out the door. "Not unless you can catch me!"
"Get back here!" She shouted and sprinted after him.
"Never!" He called back and leapt down the stairs.
Aurora took off after him, jumping down the stairwell with ease.
Peter slid out of the stairwell and darted down the hall towards the lab.
