Chapter 11
Once they arrived in the lab, Tony plugged the computer all in after moving the folders out of the way. He left project one open but the subject was closed. "Friday, I'm hooking you in, please unlock it."
"Of course, sir." Friday responded and they watched for a minute before the password was entered and it opened up.
"Thanks, Fri." Tony told her and opened up the folders. "Alright...Let's see what we got." He started to scroll through them.
There were a few documents, listed as different numbers with results at the end of them. Numbers other than the spider serums.
Tony frowned as he scrolled through and stopped when he found the spider serum number. He hesitated before opening up result 1.
'Attempt one of creating the project was a complete failure. The mixture wasn't even able to be used for testing at all. Need to adjust the amounts and chemicals.'
He frowned a bit and skipped a few, curious if it talked about who they used it on.
Results 15, 'The project has finally reached a stable consistency. We are to proceed with testing immediately and continue making our adjustments from there.'
The two teens watched with increasing interest. Perhaps for separate reasons however. Peter was filled with horror and disgust, and Aurora was filled with anger and planning.
Aurora focused intently on the results Tony was going through, her mind running a million miles a second. She was already tracing their steps from the diner, recounting how many rooftops they had jumped before reaching that rickety fire escape. How many floors they had gone up on that building based on how many windows she had to web shut. She planned on shutting that place down for good.
"You don't think that's Kasey, do you?" Peter asked, motioning to the 15th result.
Tony glanced at him. "Not unless they tested on her specifically... 38 more times." He replied by scrolling to the end of the section. The thought made him angry but judging by 'Subject 25', unless she was lower or if there were more than it probably wasn't.
"38..? This is absolutely sickening!" Peter exclaimed, horrified with his newly gained knowledge. The fact that people were willing to go through this much human disservice simply for a spider soldier? It made his skin crawl thinking about it.
Tony nodded. "You're not wrong, kid." He hesitated before clicking on 16.
'Test one, Subject one. Test failed, only made the Subject sick for a few days. We are adjusting it.'
17. 'Test 2 Subject one. Test critically failed. Subject is no longer able to be tested. Adjusting.'
Tony inhaled sharply at that. That was only 17 in a list of 53.
Aurora bit the inside of her cheek bitterly, not daring to say a word. If she did, she wouldn't be able to stop the obscenities from flowing out.
Tony took a deep breath and skipped towards the end.
44. 'Test 1, Subject 22 was a half success. The subject did start to exhibit signs of powers only for their body to be unable to handle the fast change. They are no longer able to be tested. Adjusting.'
Tony clicked another.
45. 'Test one Subject 23. Test is showing good results. Monitoring overnight.'
Click.
46. 'Test successful. It worked, Subject 23 survived, exhibited powers, and it all worked. Testing more to verify.'
47. 'Subject 23 will no longer be able to be tested.'
Tony looked confused. What?? Why not? What happened??
48. 'Test one successful. Subject 24 has survived for 24 hours. Further testing required to test the limits.'
49. 'Test two, Subject 24. We have encountered a error in our systems, the past 24 hours of surveillance is corrupted beyond saving. Subject 24 is believed to be held responsible due to somehow vanishing themselves. We are looking into it.'
50. Well. He tried to open 50. It came back claiming it was corrupted.
He frowned but clicked on 51.
'Test zero, Subject 25,' it started out and Tony tensed a bit but furrowed his brow. Test zero?
'Test was unable to be performed at the time as the Subject needs time to stabilize and adjust before we can begin. They have been discussing giving them a week if not more to be safe. We cannot take risks with this one.'
"They couldn't take risks? It almost sounds like subject 25 was their last resort or something. You'd think people like them would have a multitude of 'subjects'." Peter theorized, reading the entries as Tony brought them up. He was horrified that Kasey and the other subjects had to go through that. "Or maybe someone was catching onto them, and they were leaving a trail of bodies that was beginning to gain attention."
Tony nodded a bit. "Both of those are possible..." He agreed before glancing over at the folder he had set aside. They had found Subject 25 on the computer so having the file would help clarify, right?
But Kasey only wanted him to look through it.
Peter buried his face in his hands, pressing his fingers against his temples. He wondered whose attention they could've attracted, cause he certainly didn't believe it was the police. "I guess we just have to wait until Kasey's ready to open the folder to compare the notes."
Tony sighed and gave a small nod. "Unless something happened to 25 in the next two results then I think it is Kasey..."
Peter nodded in agreement. "I'm thinking the same thing, unfortunately." He hated how the notes talked about the subjects as if they were lab animals.
Tony started to say something when Friday spoke up.
"The pizza has arrived."
Tony looked up. "Thanks Fri. You two wanna go get that and coax Kasey out of her room?" He asked them. "I'm gonna make some back ups of this just in case."
Peter sucked in a deep breath and pushed himself up and off the couch. "I'll go get Kasey, you get the pizza?" He offered it to Aurora, before heading off to Kasey's room. "Kase, pizza's here!"
"Gotcha." Aurora stood up and headed over to the elevator. On the ride down, she couldn't stop her mind from racing, and it was beginning to annoy her. What if those people moved buildings before she was able to get back? She shook her head, focusing on getting the pizza back to the group.
The secretary at the front desk gave Aurora a smile when she arrived. "Here for the pizza?" She asked.
Aurora snapped back to reality, sprouting an acting attitude for the time being. She'd done it plenty of times before, she could do it again. "Yup, thank you so much for delivering it! Especially in a place like New York, haha." She told the delivery man.
The delivery man laughed. "No problem! Enjoy!" He waved farewell as the secretary handed over the pizza. "There you go!"
"Thank you!" She picked up the pizza boxes and headed back towards the elevator. Once she got into the elevator she dropped her faux smile, hitting the button for the floor she was previously on.

Kasey looked up from her lap where her phone sat at the sound of Peter's voice. She knew she needed to eat but... her appetite was gone. "O-Okay!" She called back after a minute. "I'll be there in a moment."
She took a deep breath and put her phone on her nightstand and stood up. She pulled her hair into a ponytail and snatched a jacket to go over her tank top. She walked to her door, hesitating before coming out. "Hey," She greeted softly as she stepped into the larger room.
Peter grinned, determined not to let his reactions to the computer files seep out. He just wanted Kasey to feel relaxed and less stressed. "Hey! Good morning, or afternoon, or whatever time it is... I haven't checked the time yet." He chuckled awkwardly.
Kasey laughed at that. "Friday, what time is it?"
"About three in the afternoon." She replied.
"Huh. So about the time we got snatched... yesterday??? More or less???" She noted, mostly to herself. "So about 24 hours or so have passed since then."
"Jeez, at least we can get some food now. I hadn't even thought about us not getting any food for a whole day." Peter thought aloud, turning back towards the main room. He made a mental note to text Ned and MJ and fill them in on all that had happened. "We got your favorite."
Kasey grinned at that. "Good, cause I would've harassed you guys if you hadn't-"
Peter chuckled. "You would've harassed us, and I would've gone and got you your favorite myself." He insisted. "Seriously though, are you feeling better today?"
Aurora was lost in her thoughts, before the ding from the elevator brought her back once more. She waited for the doors to open before stepping out, finding a counter to set the pizzas down. "Pizza's here! Get it while it's hot! And it's pretty freaking hot." She brushed her hands on her shirt, just recently realizing the stinging.
She hesitated and finally gave a bit of a shrug. "Honestly? I don't know." She answered but turned to Aurora when she arrived. "It smells amazing!" She came over towards the counter, relying on her mental map to get her there as her senses still were being uncooperative with her.
-------
Tony meanwhile started those backups and hesitated before grabbing the folder and sitting down. He took a deep breath and opened it.
'Subject 25, young female, blond hair, blue eyes. First subject obtained using project 13211220922518195. It was a successful test in its own right once they stabilized and adjusted to their new surroundings. We almost lost them a couple times in the process. Once we deemed them stable enough, we started our tests. Refer to the test results for more information into the process. They show a lot of promise. We are discussing trying to obtain others the same way. After all, if we can obtain subjects with project 13211220922518195 from here on out, no one would be the wiser.'
Tony frowned at that. "... Fri, run code breakers on 13211220922518195, for me. Just, all of them. Let me know what you find if anything." He requested.
"Of course sir. It'll be a minute."
And sure enough-
"A result has been found, would you like to hear it?" Friday asked Tony after a minute or two.
Tony looked up from the folder. "Give it to me."
"The numbers you have supplied, if broken up correctly and assume they are the same numbers as the alphabet translate to 'Multiverse'."
Tony just about dropped the folder, his eyes widening. That- That was just theory! Right?? Has someone actually found a way to breach the multiverse?! And if that was the case- He reread the folder.
'Subject 25, young female, blond hair, blue eyes. First subject obtained using project MULTIVERSE. After all, if we can obtain subjects with project MULTIVERSE from here on out, no one would be the wiser.'
His heart started to race as he stared at it. Subject obtained? Stabilizing and adjusting to new surroundings? Obtaining more? He put his hand over his mouth as he looked back at the description of the subject. Young female, blond hair, blue eyes. Just like Kasey.
He let out a shaky breath before shutting the folder and putting it away somewhere safe for now and ran a hand through his hair. If, and that was a big if, this was correct? If they really did breach the multiverse, then that meant Kasey wasn't supposed to be here. At all.
Tony sighed and looked at the other two results left. He knew Aurora would be up with the pizza any moment now but... He sat down and clicked on 52.
'Test one, Subject 25. Subject was stable enough for testing. We applied the project to the subject despite their attempted resistance. It seemed to be working as planned. At least for a moment it had. The subject started to have muscle spasms despite the numbing and paralysis agents. Their heart rate started spiking and increasing in speed. We thought it might have been a seizure but someone noted something was wrong with the eyes. We could only watch in shock as the eyes went from a vivid Azure Blue shade to a dull grayish blue. The eyes also stopped reacting to the light correctly during this and the subject fainted soon after. Further testing needed for answers.'
53. Last one. 'Test two, Subject 25. We have confirmed the Subject has gone completely blind. They are much more compliant now but still try to resist some. We have decided to try to repair their sight but if we are unable to, we will remove them and replace them with artificial ones. I am writing the notes as they are working on them right now. Seems they've found them unrepairable and are prepping for the switch inahfjkdsa;-' The results suddenly stopped for a moment before continuing under a new paragraph.
'The subject woke up during the process, she- they started to panic, thankfully the paralysis was still in effect so they had time to try to get ahold of the situation but in the chaos, they got free. They, despite being restrained to the surgical table as securely as we could, with strong doses of both numbing and paralysis pumped into her- their system, woke up, panicked, broke free, and fled out a window. Subject- Subject 25 is loose. Reobtaining and damage control protocols have been put in place. They are confident they'll get her back soon.'
Tony was pissed and frustrated with this new information. They had known some of what Kasey went through just from what she told them but, this?? He was restraining himself from just destroying the computer then and there. "Friday, finish the back ups for me and lock it back up."
"Understood, they are waiting in the kitchen for you."
Tony hesitated before taking a deep breath. He had to tell her despite every inch of him telling him that it was gonna end badly.
