Chapter 101

Meanwhile however, the first place Aurora found herself was Peter's room. Seemed her subconscious had brought her here, as she was freaking the hell out the whole way over. She popped the vent off, dropping into the room with a pained thud.

Peter startled when she landed on the ground but blinked in surprise. "Aurora?" She heard his phone ask. "Why were you in the vents???"

Aura took a moment to catch her breath and calm her shaking. "There's a problem out there." She wanted to explain it all to him, but didn't want to waste the time talking, so she shortened it. "Matt and Claire brought Kasey over because Tony finished a stabilizing room. Something happened and Matt went in to help, but he started glitching really bad and got taken to the medbay. I went to check on them and he glitched out worse, and got replaced with some black mirror type Matt."

Peter blinked in surprise. "Wait, what? Black mirror Matt?? Aura- He's still blind, right? But he's clearly scared you..." He frowned in concerned confusion.

"He knew exactly where me and Claire were. He jumped up, hurt Claire and chased us like a freaking wolf!" She exclaimed. It really had been terrifying, seeing a good man turn so bad so quickly.

Peter's eyes widened at that. "Holy shit..." He reached over and grabbed his web shooters, gloves, and mask and stood up. "Where?" He signed to her.

"You've got to be really careful, Peter. The guy's a lunatic. He's nuts!" She exclaimed, watching him move about. "By the stabilization room Tony was working on. Down the med hallway and to the right."

Peter nodded firmly, pocketing his phone and pulling his mask over his face, signing at her. "I'm going to survey and maybe try to sneak up on him. Find Kade and give her a warning."

"Okay, just please be careful." Aurora told him, heading towards the door. She tried to open it as quietly as possible.

Peter followed her but stuck to the ceiling and silently made his way down the hallways, looking for them.

Aurora followed Peter partially, before splitting off into the medbay. "Dr. Kade!" She whisper-yelled.

Kade looked up at Aurora and saw how scared she looked and quickly came over. "Interweb? What's wrong? You look-"

And before she could finish, the building started going into lockdown making her eyes widen. "-panicked..." She finished. "What's going on?"

"Matt glitched out, and I think a different Matt replaced him, and now he's nuts. Last I saw he had Claire hostage down a couple hallways from here." She explained hurriedly.

Kade swore quietly under her breath. "So, do I just hide out?" She asked her. "I'm not entirely sure I can help..."

Aurora bit her lip before nodding. "Yeah. You should stay here, try to lay low. I don't think he'd come after you, but to be safe you should stay here."

"Okay... Be careful, alright?" She told her gently but going to hide in one of the side rooms.

"Will do." She nodded and waited until Kade went to hide. She turned the lights off, making the room look empty before slipping back into the hallway. She took to the ceiling, thinking it'd be easier to get an upper hand that way.

She saw Peter doing a similar thing and he came over to her carefully. "You weren't kidding... this guy is terrifying..." He signed.

"He doesn't even care that Tony's in a suit. He's still trying to fight him." She muttered, watching the two.

Peter had started to nod when he saw him about to get solid blow on Tony and crawled towards them quickly then struck the back of his leg with a string of web and pulled him off his feet.

Tony glanced up and saw Peter and gave him a small nod.

Matt cursed, he had been so close! He felt himself pulled off of his feet and reached back to hack at the webbing with his blade. Feeling the webbing only made him grin again. "Ooh. Little spiders? How fun!"

Peter narrowed his eyes at him, staying put while disconnecting that shot.

Tony aimed at him again, another stun blast at him but missed again as he dodged out of the way. "You aren't getting out of here so why are you still fighting?!" Tony asked him.

"You really expect me to give myself over to the tin man? I don't think so." Matt sneered and took his blade, throwing it straight at Tony's faceplate.

Aurora stayed near Peter, observing the fight. She'd stay out until she was needed.

Tony ducked out of the way as he fired another blast the same time Peter webbed Matt's legs together and pulled him to the ground, causing him to avoid the blast but Peter didn't have time to dodge as it came at him and half of it hit his side, a strangled cry of pain coming from him as he dropped from the ceiling but everything was thrown off causing him to hit the ground hard and hit his head on the tile, knocking him clean out.

"Shit!" Tony swore loudly, quickly trying to get to him.

"No no no, we aren't done here Tony!!" Matt called out gleefully, grabbing the webbing and using it as a rope to pull the unconscious Peter over to him. He took no care in hoisting the teen up in front of himself to use as a human shield.

Aurora dropped down from the ceiling, anxious to jump in. She would've stayed out of it, but then Peter got hurt. Again. Of course something like this would happen!

Tony stopped and gritted his teeth. "Let go of him!" He demanded, his voice a lot sharper now.

Peter hung limply in his hold, the side of his suit charred slightly.

"Oh, guess I touched a nerve there." Matt chuckled. He moved forward, picking up the knife he had thrown before and holding it against Peter's neck. "Why don't I cut some instead?"

Aurora froze. She didn't dare move forward, knowing that he could very well get hurt a lot more than he already was.

Tony tensed up, knowing if he did, he'd be worsening Peter's slit throat even more and possibly kill him. "Don't." Tony told him but didn't move. "Look- even if we let you stay here, you wouldn't be able to stay forever. You'd eventually go back." He explained. "That or it'll kill you. Either way, you can't stay."

Matt stood there, thinking over their actions. "This kid must be pretty important, huh?" Matt asked. He wasn't fond of the idea of being killed off before he could accomplish his goals. "What's all this about it killing me?"

"You... You don't match this dimension's frequencies." Tony explained carefully. "It's what causes the glitches and if it puts enough strain on your body, it can potentially kill you that way or you completely destabilize and cease to exist."

Hm. That didn't settle well with him at all. Oh, but he had so many plans for this new world of his! A new thought struck his mind. Armed with this new knowledge, maybe he'd be able to come back later on, find some sort of stabilization agent. "So if I get sent back, the glitches will stop?"

"Supposedly, yes. You should restabilize..." Tony replied slowly.

Matt groaned. He wanted to stick around, cause some issues. But he couldn't do that if he was dead. At least back home he had an interrogation to get back to. "Fine. No tricks."

"Then release him." He replied firmly, standing his ground.

Matt frowned, toying with the idea of holding onto the kid just a little bit longer. Eventually he decided all of the fun was over, and threw the unconscious boy forward.

Tony stepped forward and caught him and very carefully passed him to Aurora. "Get him to the medbay." He told her firmly but looking at Matt. "Well? Come on then." He waited for him to get up.

Aurora carefully took Peter from Tony, and sent a death glare towards Matt. She turned and took him off towards the medbay.

Matt hesitated, but got up and stepped towards Tony. "No tricks." He repeated.

"Same to you." Was all he said as he led him to the room. "You'll have to give me a minute to set it up." He told him as he worked with the panel, checking a few things before his eyes widened. D-Did it really-? He quickly looked up. "Friday, can you bring her out here for a bit and monitor her?"

"Of course." Matt heard that voice again and he heard some doors opening and closing and another metal suit walking towards them with someone in their arms, sound asleep.

Tony quickly checked the person's vitals and let out a shaky breath of relief. "Thank God..." He muttered. "Fri, take her to the medbay. Let her rest."

"Yes sir." Matt heard her start to walk away but he also heard the telltale signs of a spiderling's heartbeat.

"Interesting, some sort of AI?" Matt asked aloud, following closely after Tony. He heard the clanks of another metal suit, followed by the heartbeat of another spiderling. He smirked and spoke again.

"What? Do you run some sort of spider adoption center or something? I've just got one back home." Imagine what he'd be able to do with three spiders under his wing.

Tony sighed. "Yes, Friday is my AI. No, I don't run a "spider adoption center"." He had Friday run a few scans on him with his vizor so he could mark it down and adjust the room back to their current frequency.

"I will tell you that this will probably hurt as it's the only way we know how to do this so far." He explained.

Matt crossed his arms, seemingly unbothered by the sear on his side. "Are you saying that because it's true, or are you saying that to get back at me for hurting your prized pupil?" Matt reached up, tapping his chin in faux thought. "Or is he your son? Guess it doesn't matter either way. All just a means to an end, aren't they?"

Tony took a deep breath. "And none of it concerns you." He replied. "But yes, it's true." He hissed out as he opened the door.

"Hm. Pity. Thought I'd get more out of you, tin man." Matt remarked. He had thought that last little comment would've at least irked him.

"Oh, I'm aware." He replied, tiredly before looking back at him. "I'm simply too used to people spouting bullshit to irk me."

"What about your kiddos then. You may turn a blind eye to such nonsense, but. I wonder how easy it would be for each of them to turn..." He let out a cynical laugh. "Oh how interesting that would be. To make a little academy for tainted heroes."

The suit made it impossible for Matt to hear the way his heart skipped a beat at that but he just crossed his arms. "Are you going in or not?" He asked him. He knew engaging would only fuel him and that's what he wanted. Ignore him and he'll eventually stop.

"Killjoy." Matt spoke, exasperated. He stepped into the room, continuing to be a nuisance. "You should count them lucky. I usually don't leave my victims unconscious, to be tended to by their daddies." He sneered once again. "I would've killed him."

Tony looked at him as he let him in and sealed him inside. "Then why didn't you?" He replied, focused on making sure all the settings were right.

"Because then you would've tried to kill me, and there would've been a whole issue, blah blah blah." Matt spoke condescendingly towards Tony. "If you killed me, then I wouldn't be able to go home. Obviously."

Tony didn't bother reacting to his tone. "Oh, we could've probably found a way to send your corpse back if we had to." He replied, flatly.

"Then I wouldn't be able to rule my city, or play puppets with my own spider." Matt responded quickly.

"And at this point I'm pretty sure they'd be fine with that." He verified everything should be set right and looked at him. "And yet, you'll live to cause more problems for who knows how long."

"It was interesting, for a while. Oh! Give this universe's Murdock a little hello. And tell him that his girlfriend was such fun company." Matt snickered and found his way to the bed in the room, sitting down on it.

Tony didn't reply but instead activated the room and hoped that this would work.

Matt doubled over, the pain from the room ripping through him. He sort of regretted agreeing to go back, as this pain was a real pain in the ass.

Tony watched, monitoring his vitals closely, making sure it wasn't going to kill him and let it keep going. Please work.

Matt pushed himself back onto the bed, curling up into a ball as another glitch shot through him.

Tony watched the glitching get really bad but his eyes widened when he saw his red hair turn chocolate brown and his outfit change and once it was fully him, once he was fully back, the glitching lessened back down, starting to slow to a stop.

It was almost like waking up from a bad dream, but Matt found himself clutching his arms around himself. He knew it wasn't a dream, as the residual effects of the glitching were slowly coming to an end. He pushed himself up, turning his head this way and that to get a listen for where he was. The Tower.

"Matt?" Tony's voice came through the speakers. "You all with us?" He asked, sounding hesitant and unsure.

Matt let out a relieved and shaky breath. "Yeah. I think I'm back now." He was glad Tony had managed to figure something out. He didn't know how much longer he'd be able to go knowing there was an evil version of himself tuning loose here.

"Thank God that it worked..." He sighed. "I'm going to let you sit in there just for a few more minutes to make sure you're completely stable, alright?" He told him.

Matt nodded, completely exhausted from the round trip. "Alright." He felt uneasy. "Did he hurt any of them?"

The question caught him a bit off guard but he sighed softly. "Well, he did try," He answered him truthfully. "Gave us all more a scare than actually hurting us as far as I know."

That helped him relax a little bit. He came to realize that he was in the stabilization room, but Kasey was not. "Where's Kasey?" Hope filled his chest. "Did it work?"

Tony smiled a bit. "It's still a bit early to say for certain but she's been fast asleep in the medbay with no reported issues for about 10-15 minutes now." He explained.

"If you think you're good, I can take you to her." He offered, checking his vitals and everything and seeing they all looked to be back in order.

"Yeah, I think I'd like that." He nodded, pushing off of the bed. He was still unstable on his feet, but it was so much better than when he had been glitching.

"Could Claire be there too?" Even if Tony had said that she was fine, he wanted to check on her himself.

"Yeah, Friday, can you have her meet us there?"

"Of course." She replied back before going quiet again to locate and talk to Claire.

Tony looked at him. "Can you get out on your own?" He asked him with uncertainty.

Matt still had the cast on, miraculously, after all that had happened. However, his leg really didn't feel all that bad. He made a small hum of surprise, but started towards the door. "Actually, I think I can."

Tony nodded and let him into the hall and then back out. "You're certainly moving a lot better than you were." He noted in surprise.

"I'm wondering if that glitching had anything to do with it." There was still pain coming from his leg, of course, but it really didn't feel as bad as it had been.

"Maybe... We can take a better look at it in the medbay." Tony told him as he headed towards the hall, at this point pretty sure Matt could make his way over too.

Unless of course, that was only the other one?

Matt followed close behind Tony, making sure not to push himself too far. Claire would have his head if he screwed up his leg again.

Tony had so, so many questions... but Matt was clearly exhausted. Those questions could wait as they entered the medbay.
