Part 1
Camera's clicking, random people dancing on the streets, half the generation with their head stuck in their phone, shoots happening in unexpected places, couples making out in a corner trying to hide from the public, welcome to Mumbai.
I dint really believe in change, I mean waking up one day and finding out everything was different dint exist for me, until today, when I was finally coming back to this place after a couple years.
Hi, I am Khushi Gupta, oh yes the daughter of industrialist Karan Gupta, his name is always all over the news and so is the news about his dysfunctional family.
I left Mumbai two years back and decided to finish my high school studies in Ahmedabad for some reasons I don't like to even think about, but as they say, there's no place better than home so after two years, I finally decided to return, hoping everything was going to be like it was when I left, only if someone had told me, time doesn't wait for anyone, even if you are the daughter of one of the richest man.
The Uber dropped me outside the huge mansion that we liked to call home even though it never felt like one, I stepped out after paying the driver and walked inside dragging my bag along.
As I stepped inside, I was met by a miracle that was finding my father at home, he was always working so finding him home was a big deal.
"Khushi!" He smiled at me brightly and rushed to hug me out of excitement, I don't remember my father being so affectionate towards me.
"Hello Dad." I smiled as I broke the hug and looked at him, he did seem to be genuinely happy to see me back.
"Why dint you tell me you were coming back?" He asked.
"Did I tell you when I left? Chill dad, it's not like you care." I shrugged as I headed towards the elevator so I could go to my room upstairs and take a shower.
"So you come back after two years and decide to be rude to me, I can see nothing about you had really changed in the past two years."
"I can say the same about you dad, but I have no time to argue, I'm already a week late, who knows if the university will want to take me in." I rolled my eyes.
"You already applied for a university? Which one is it? And why dint you tell me about it? I hope it can match our standards at least." He said.
I stopped next to the elevator, turned to look at him, how come even after living with him for this many years, he dint know a single thing about me?
"I am not the type to go study in random universities dad, I choose the best in everything, you should have at least known that by now. Anyway can we have this conversation over dinner tonight? That's if you'll be home, I really need to get going."
I walked into the elevator that led to me the third floor where my room was, I pushed the door to my room open and walked in.
It was just as it had been the day I left, everything was its in place, nothing had been touched, I liked it.
I headed straight into the bathroom to take a shower, it was my first day at the university and I for sure dint want to go there looking like a homeless drug addict.
If there was one thing everyone knew about me was that I never compromised with my status, and quite honestly I was a bit of show off, but who wasn't right?
*****
Let's just say the welcome back home wasn't quite as expected, but it was my fault that I was quite delusional thinking I could just leave and come back and find things to be the same, the world wasn't going to stop for me right.
I was met with strange glares from a lot of people around the university, one problem of coming from a rich family was that a lot of people knew you because your personal life wasn't really personal, it was always featured in a lot of papers.
I ignored the glares just trying to act normal as I headed to the dean's office, it was difficult to get an admission one week late, thanks to my father and his fame.
Once I walked out of the dean's office, I quite literally dint know what to do, I mean in high school I had only one best friend and now that I hadn't been in touch with her for the past few years, I had no idea if she was still around or anything, so it was basically a new beginning for me.
"Hey, you are Khushi right?" One girl stopped in front of me and looked at me excitedly like she had met her favorite celebrity.
"Later fan girl." I rolled my eyes at her and walked away, I hated it when random people approached me and tried to poke their noses in my business, I mean I get it, a lot of the girls wanted to be like me, but there was only one Khushi Gupta.
There was this staircase kind of seating made in the middle of the college where a lot of people sat around with their friends and stuff like that, I walked there hoping to find someone I knew, I mean out of all the people I had studies with in high school, at least one might have decided to join this university.
To my good luck, I spotted Aditi, my best friend, remember the one I had no contact with in the past two years? It was like destiny was playing a role in making us friends again.
She was seated with three girls who were nodding to whatever she said, as I approached her, she looked at me in surprise, I know I dint really inform anyone when I decided to leave and neither did I when I decided to come back.
Aditi was one of those girls you'd look at and envy her for everything she had, she was heavenly gorgeous, she came for a very rich family which wasn't as dysfunctional as mine, let's just say everything about her and her life was perfect.
"Hey Aditi." I smiled at her excitedly.
"Excuse me do I know you?" She rolled her eyes at me then stood up and walked away, I get it, she was angry at me for some reasons.
"Aditi, wait." I rushed behind her, she just kept walking and not looking at me so I had to run so that I could catch up with her, once I was close enough, I grabbed her hand and pulled her back.
"What?" She looked at me angrily.
"Aren't you even a little bit happy to see me back?" I asked.
"No Khushi, my life doesn't revolve around you. You are the one that left without saying goodbye and never bothered to call me, and now that you're back you expect me to be normal to you? In case you don't know, a lot has changed in two years, one of it being that I no more give a damn about you." she looked at me angrily and walked away.
Remember when I said I dint believe in change? Well Aditi made me believe in it today. Aditi and I were the best of friends and everyone was jealous of our friendship back in school, plus Aditi was always the calm and kind type of a person, she never got angry or talked rudely or anything, and today the Aditi I met was completely different than what she was two years back.
If we were being honest, neither was I the same person that I was when I left this place.
"Best friend fight?" I heard a voice from behind me, I turned around and found this cute guy standing there smiling at me.
"Tell me about it." I smiled.
"I am Jai by the way and you seem new around here." He held his hand out to me for a handshake.
"I am Khushi and yes I'm kind of new, in the university not in the city of course."
"Good to know you Khushi." He smiled and just then our attention was diverted to a sudden crowd gathering out of nowhere and people screaming and cheering for something that I had no idea about.
"What's going on?" I asked Jai.
"Must be the usual fight between Arnav and someone who messed up with him again, I don't know what's wrong with that guy seriously." Jai shrugged, he dint seem to like this Arnav guy that he was talking about.
"Who is Arnav?" I asked.
"He's just some guy that has been making a scene daily since the university began, he looks kind of dangerous, I don't get why people keep trying to mess with him." Jai replied. The security guard came running as he dispersed the crowd and stopped the fight that was taking place, once the crowd was dispersed, I finally got a look about this guy that Jai was talking about.
You've ever read about those hot mafia guys in novels? He looked like one of them, just imagine it, tall, dark and handsome.
He stood up from the ground and coincidentally, I was the first person he looked at, I was expecting him to look away immediately, but instead he kept on staring at me, I wasn't the kind of a person to usually get awkward, but the way he looked at me kind of made me feel awkward.
He had this intense gaze that seemed like it could pierce through me and see what was going on inside me literally.
The security guard started saying something to him but he just pushed him aside and walked away from him, he started walking to our side and I started to wonder if he was coming to talk to me or something.
As he got closer, I felt somehow nervous, I wasn't even sure if I wanted to talk to him or not, and while I was busy battling my confusion, he passed right by me, completely ignoring me.
Here I was thinking that he was going to come talk to me or something but he completely ignored me. I guess today was the day where everything I thought wasn't what really happened.
I turned around and saw him head towards a black Lamborghini that was parked right outside the gate as if it was only waiting for him, a man rushed to open the back door for him as he got inside the car disappeared in a moment.
"Wow, what happened here." I sighed.
"It's the usual, since day one he's just been picking up fights with random people and the disappearing like that. He's strange, but that car he drives could steal my heart." Jai said making me laugh.
"It's not like you can't afford it, I think everyone in this university can."
"Well not the ones that are here on scholarships." Jai said awkwardly, I smiled back awkwardly, did I just make friends with a guy who wasn't of my status? I wonder what my father would have to say about it.
