Chapter 2

"What do you mean pay the bills? Isn't your turn this month?"

"You're the father. Isn't it your duty to sustain us?"

"It's not that I am pushing the responsibility to you. I just mean that I can't do it on my own. I need your help too."

Kezia woke up because of the noise. She groggily got up from her bed and unconsciously looked at the clock at her bedside table. "10:27," she muttered under her breath. It's the time of the day, the time when her parents fight because of various reasons every time. And now she can't help but wonder what are they arguing about right now. At the same time, she doesn't want to be curious anymore.

She felt her tummy grumble, she realized that she wasn't able to eat her dinner. She fell asleep as soon as she got home and probably has no time to eat now because her parents finally arrived.

It became a thing to her. Once her parents arrived from their work, she barely got out of her room. She doesn't know if it's hate or ignorance. She doesn't know why she's doing it, but she just did.

It's just that, as she grew up, the distance between her parents and her grew at the same time, until her parents seemed out of reach anymore.

She forgot what they were like when her Grandpa was still alive. She doesn't even remember if they were affectionate or not. The only thing she remembers is how hectic their schedule was and how busy they were to even spare time for her. It was only her and her Grandpa.

Her Grandpa is like the anchor and her family is the ship. When her Grandpa passed away, it was also as if the ship lost its anchor, as soon as the anchor was lost, the ship drifted apart. Lost and in agony at the tidal waves.

When her Grandpa passed on, everything went downhill. Her Grandpa is quite a wealthy man, he owned several lands which is why when he was gone, his children sought his land so that they could own it, one of them is her Mother who was also his Grandfather's daughter. The dispute with her relatives seemed like forever. Nothing can stop them anymore.

The world revolves around money, she's disappointed with how it also affected her parents. A life with no love is just equivalent to being dead, and that's what her parents can't give.

"It's not my problem anymore!" the high-pitched voice of her Mother made her flinched. She felt her heartbeat beating faster.

"Lower down your voice! Kezia might hear you."

"So what? It's not like she doesn't know our state right now."

What her Mother said made her heart break into a million pieces. It's as if she can hear it breaking. Day by day she can feel her self-worth slipping away from her grasp, she felt useless, she felt unworthy. And what her mother said pushed her one step forward toward the edge of the cliff. As much as possible she wanted to cling to life but why is everyone pushing her at the end of the line?

She got up and carefully closed the door, not wanting to make a single sound. She doesn't want to let her parents know that she's awake and aware of them.

"I miss you, Grandpa." her Grandpa is the only source of strength that she has to sustain her everyday life.

She tried to push away her thoughts and set aside the issue of her home. There are more important matters than this.

She grabbed her earphones and blasted her favorite song. Music became her escape, her sanctuary of peace, and her shield. She loves how it temporarily blocks the reality she has and brings her to a wonderful world full of rhythm and chaos. For a brief moment, she felt euphoria. Music is her drug.

She settled at her study table and set her mind to focus on the task that was due next week. She got her pen and paper and carefully planned what they were going to do.

A smile enveloped her lips as soon as she was done, next she got her phone and created the GC.

Her expression turned grim again when she saw the name of his nemesis. Dino Salvador.

Good eve, I just want to inform y'all that I already planned what we're going to do. We will meet up tomorrow.

Where: At my house

When: Tom, noon.

What: For our project.

Kezia breathed a sigh of relief. She felt like she achieved a new goal for this day. She just hoped that tomorrow wouldn't be too chaotic.
