Bauble decked Christmas trees rocking sparkling fairy lights,

twinkling stars winking in their silvery winter delight,

dazzling on Christmas Eve night from their dizzying heights,

as children restlessly try and sleep on this magical night.

Chocolate and turkey, laughter and tons of mulled wine,

full houses and friendly family chatter around the table as they dine,

Card giving, games and carol singing,

Relaxing, rejoicing and bell ringing.

The innocent excitement as every girl and boy,

eagerly unwraps each and every toy,

gifts given and received with untold joy,

mince pies and cracker pulling ahoy!

Religious or not the festive generosity is there,

for all to be grateful for and share,

so  spare a thought for those that are alone,

or homeless, hungry to the bone,

as alas, as Yuletide rears its glorious head,

I pray its true humble message spreads.
