16.1 Protecting What Is Important

The YanLing Sect was woken up by a loud alarm.

A junior disciple is sleeping soundly on his quarters when suddenly one rude person knocked on the door very loudly. The other sleeping disciples who were on the same quarters was disturbed by the noise, most are sitting up with a dazed with a frowned expression, while the others are strangely brave enough to cover their body with quilt to muffle the noise a bit.

Someone, who is nearer to the door, forced his self to jump off from his bed and made his way towards the door. The knocking became harsher every second making everyone's heart to suddenly feel weird. They can also hear Senior Brother's voice from the other side calling their names. The most attentive ones followed the disciple as they walk towards the door faster.

Though, they were only a step late when the door finally got broken from the force. The juniors that were sleeping stood up from their beds abruptly as if they have been stung on their butts. The ones on the door stared at the broken door and gulped. At least, they were a bit late. If not, they could have been run down by the force.

While the juniors are contemplating the luck that they have, the senior quickly entered the quarters and alerted the disciples. Together with him are also a few of their senior brothers and sisters. This made the junior disciples to feel nervous as they hurriedly gathered themselves. One disciple had the strong heart to break the tension and asked:

"Senior Brother, what is the matter?"

The senior disciple looked at the young man and heaved a sigh. He tried to hide to worry from his eyes but all of them caught notice of it. The other senior disciples did not wait for any instruction and headed inside to pack some things. The juniors are confused by this action as they helped the seniors to gather all their belongings.

"The YanLing Sect has faced its end. We need to move away," the senior disciple suddenly voiced out.

The helping juniors that were just picking things around all looked at the senior brother. He is joking, right? The YanLing Sect... is facing its end? Isn't this Sect the greatest amongst the five big sects of the continent? Why is it suddenly falling today?

Many questions swarmed off on their heads as they waited for answers. But before anyone could voice out their opinion, another shadow appeared on the door. They all look at the haggard look of the disciple that seems to be running for his life. He was sweating all over his body with his hair and clothes sticking on his skin. But the most prominent thing that made all people gasp is the black burn on his shoulders down to his waist.

"Hurry up! Master said that we should leave immediately or else the fire will catch up. It already burned the second level. It's tracing down to the edge in a very fast speed! Hurry up, leave!"

That disciple somehow still has a clear voice despite the trouble. Everyone knows him - he is a disciple coming from the highest level of the sect. He is mostly assigned to do messenger works. If one from the higher ups came down to tell the news, does it mean that the danger they are now is really that lethal?

One of the junior disciples wanted to get answers and so ran out from the quarters together with the other brothers. As they walk out, they all notice the unusual brightness of the surroundings despite the time being the night. They subconsciously looked up to see the source of light when they were welcomed with a very bright light. Instead of seeing the full moon, what they saw is the image of their sect burning in flames.

This is also the exact scene Yu XueQin and Kun Shao saw when they arrived at the front door of the sect.

Burning in bright red and yellow flames, the ones prestigious sect is being consumed by hungry fire. It first burned the wooden parts into ashes, then melting the stones down to earth. The metal works that is still rare these days also did not last the high temperature and followed the fellow materials. Everything burned without hesitation – the flames did not discriminate.

Yu XueQin did not care about the spread of the fire and just quickly flew up to the room where he left the Empress. Lang Yuan is still there and his brother is still there. As for his son... Yu XueQin's eyes suddenly darkened. He now knows who the perpetrator of all the killings is. Actually, he could have easily realized it if only he wasn't biased towards his son.

JiDan is the real god killer.

Kun Shao followed behind the emperor, as he was slower than Yu XueQin was. He caught of the bright light coming from the fire and frowned. This fire... this is not an ordinary fire. How could it spread out like that so easily in a short span of time? Also, it melts rocks. No ordinary fire could crumble earth. Even lava could not burn it to ashes.

His thoughts were quickly answered when he found the emperor flying up to the top part of the sect. This fire... only the gods could do it. The dragons have fire that could never be extinguished no matter what. This fire represents it very well. Also, dragon fires spread quite faster. It will only take a few blinks before the whole place will be charred in ashes.

Kun Shao ordered some of the shadow guards to go inside and help the people. There is a lot of residence living inside YanLing sect. It will take them time to realize what is happening and would try to put off the fire. Water will only be eaten and so fueling the hunger of the fire. Kun Shao, despite being a dragon, has a heart that respects humans.

After all, Zhong Song loves humans too.

He can't just hate them for being stupid and weak. And if ever he did hate them, it also equals to hating Zhong Song and Lang Yuan. These two people had proven their worth before the emperor so he will never dare to question their 'human' identity. If possible, protect the weak since he has the capability to do it.

The shadow guards nodded from the command and quickly spread out. The remaining few followed Kun Shao as they flew up; following the traces the emperor left them to trail. Kun Shao stepped down to the windowsill where they left earlier and found the room burned until it is black.

It is obvious by just looking that the fire originated from this place. Kun Shao carefully made his way inside, floating in the air instead of stepping on the black floor. He found the emperor on the edge of the bed, looking at that single place on the ground where they left the Empress and the Imperial Scholar.

The floor is still intact and present, but the people hovering there earlier are gone. Yu XueQin calculated the time they left and the time they travelled back - it didn't even last for two hours. How could they easily get and snatch Lang Yuan as if time is in their control?

The fire burned mercilessly around them. The tip of the flames licked the robes of the emperor; however, it only stayed on the surface and did not burn him. This is also happening to Kun Shao and the shadow guards - even if they are walking on fire, it is only licking them as if taking a taste. And when the flames realized that they are not fuel, it will quickly back down.

Well, what did you expect? They are dragons. Fire is like their second kin. They can never be affected by fire even if you toast them inside it. Actually, they could eat fire like how they eat food so this simple thing is just a plaything before them. No fire could defeat a god, and so, dragons will never use it in a fight. Unless one wanted to do some show off.

And due to this, none of them are worried about Zhong Song and JiDan. If ever they are really left behind, the flame will just look at them. Maybe, the flame will avoid them as they burn around. What worried them is Lang Yuan. Even though he is married to the emperor, he is still a human. And humans can be easily burned if you throw them in normal fire.

What will happen if you throw them to a dragon's fire?

Well, they will be ruthlessly burn to a crisp until no smoke can be found to prove their existence. One touch is enough to consume them and it never takes a while five minutes to finish the human. It is very much faster since the dragon's fire wanted to consume a material that has 'life' on it.

"Your Majesty," Kun Shao called out. "The Empress must be taken earlier before they burned the place. Or else they will have problems in protecting the Empress."

"Mnn," Yu XueQin agreed, still facing on the ground. "They took him away."

Strangely, Yu XueQin is still somehow calm over the situation. Kun Shao and the shadow guards expected that Yu XueQin would rage out like the Armageddon and would start rampaging until he finds the devil's lair. Everyone knows how the emperor values the empress so much, and so he would start acting like a monster on level one thousand.

Yet - yet he is still calm, very calm.

If ever the emperor will really start rampaging and cause carnage, they will understand. After all, dragons are really prideful and possessive. Once they do amazing things, they are not shy to show themselves with their noses pointed high. And if ever someone tries to steal their favorite things, they will eventually extract revenge to show that their treasure is not something that anyone could get ahold to.

So why is this emperor calm?

Why is Yu XueQin still very calm?

It is because Yu XueQin knows that Lang Yuan will be safe. He did not know the reason but he can always tell that Lang Yuan will never receive any beatings coming from 'that' person. Also, JiDan is beside him. Even though the young dragon became a traitor, Lang Yuan will always be his mother. JiDan will protect this single human even if it costs him his life.

Actually, all of this are happening is because of his love towards his mother, right?

In addition, Yu XueQin will never do as what they thought because he has to be calm to control the things. Why should he let his self be drowned by anger if he could just use this energy to think of ways on how to retrieve Lang Yuan? Also, muddled emotions tend to give more reckless decisions. He did not want to create a mistake by suddenly bursting off.

He would not become a great emperor if emotions could easily crumble him.

Yu XueQin turned his gaze towards the Shadow guards. All of them quickly kneeled on one leg to show their alertness. Kun Shao also followed them, actually leading the group. Yu XueQin wanted to chase Lang Yuan quickly but he has to settle a few matters. Leaving out things like this will only bring further disaster in the future.

"Search for every nook and cranny and bring the people out. I will stop the flame before it reaches the city," Yu XueQin walked towards the table beside the bed. It is already black and only standing on the edge of its wits. If ever the emperor will touch it, the whole thing will quickly disseminate into white powder.

He remembered Lang Yuan placing the rose pin on this table. He is still a bit sour about the rose pin but he already guessed where it came from. Actually, what he is drinking vinegar about is because Lang Yuan would rather choose to wear the rose pin than the jades that he gave him. Those are more expensive than this 'trash'. Why does he like it?

Well, Yu XueQin still had the upper hand. Why? Well, he's the owner of the jade ring, right? And it is far better than a rose pin - the ring symbolizes their unity. The rose pin is just a protection charm. Nothing else.

"Your Majesty, where they could have taken them?" Kun Shao asked. The other Shadow Guards had left, only Kun Shao remained to ask a question.

Yu XueQin looked at Kun Shao, and then he averted his gaze towards the horizon. Right just on time, the whole world suddenly felt a pulse of light disturbing the heavens. The people who are busy saving people stopped on whatever they are doing and looked up as they felt the sudden increase of unease from their hearts. Kun Shao, who did not receive the answer, followed the place where Yu XueQin is watching. His eyes widened from surprise.

The sky is dark at night. Now, it is being illuminated from the large fire on the Sect. But there is also another prominent light combing the atmosphere like a radar. The color is strikingly bright, capturing the sights of the people who noticed the glint. Even the people on the other places also saw the waves.

Yu XueQin frowned upon seeing the sky. He traced the source of the radar-like wave and found the place that he expected to see. Kun Shao also did the same, his hidden face showing contempt. The source of the abnormality is none other than the Forbidden Forest - the place where the gods could not even touch. To see it actively releasing a force...

"Gather all the men. Finish the task as fast as possible," Yu XueQin coldly said. "We will be heading out for war."

Kun Shao saluted from the order and vanished in one flick. Yu XueQin walked towards the window, his robes suddenly changing its from. Earlier, he is only wearing some light colored robe since he and the Empress are resting. However, things started to stray off from the path. The Emperor is now serious.

The robes suddenly shifted its colors to that of flaming red and orange, with the yellow color more prominent closer to gold. The wide long sleeves also changed, closing in to become a hard plate that enveloped his whole arms and part of the chest. His pants and boots also changed, transforming it to a hard material that even diamonds would be shy sitting side by side to it.

Yu XueQin is integrating his dragon form to his dragon robes. The usual face framed with strands of hair changed, with horns growing in each of his temples and a tribal tattoo forming from the edge of ears to the end of the side cheeks. A few visible scales also printed on the sides of his eyes, showing cracks and signs of flames burning to lava. It was pulsing base on his breathe, showing the literal hotness it causes.

A figure can be seen leaping out from the flames and flew up above the burning Sect. Anyone who is recovering from surprise halted again to look at the dazzling figure. Kun Shao saw the emperor and hastily called all the people that are still inside the building. He needs to bring them out fast or else they will be swooped down by the emperor together with the Sect.

With another force waking up the whole world, Yu XueQin gathered energy around him as he sucked in the wild fire. The flame that are raging started to change direction as the wind danced around them, guiding the direction creating a circular movement resembling that of a hurricane. It's just that the hurricane is made up fire and is being pulled up in what seems to be a hallow vacuum. The dazzling figure that remained static on the heavens seems to be the one guiding it.

At the same time, the interval of the pulsating force coming from the forbidden forest seems to be getting shorter and shorter. It also releases a disturbing amount of energy that makes anyone closer to fall from the tension. One huge wave erupted from the source, emitting a red to violet colored wave that tinted the dark skies into a mad red color. Anyone that was illuminated by the red sky started to feel splinters pinning on their skin.

The people yelled in agony as they felt their skin being skinned. Kun Shao already finished his job and went over to create a barrier when a figure appeared before the people. Dressed in cultivating robes, Jiang XeXun came out like butterfly flapping its wings as his robes gently caressed the air. He is holding a light green folding fan on his right hand to which he opened with a swipe.

The slight air that were from the flap of the fan spread out like a thin cloth covering the whole Town in a translucent white film. This stopped the skinning sensation relieving the people. The other disciples who are on the closer scene stoop down in a bow to salute the minister. Kun Shao remained on his position, watching the human show his claws before the disaster.

Minister Jiang XeXun only nodded to recognize the other's presence. Then, they both shifted their eyes to look up. They found the emperor still sucking the live fire with ease, yet something is bothering him. Looking a bit farther away, a multicolored barrier suddenly has a foreboding hole that releases an intense power of energy that could kill anyone touched by it.

The people who did not know the events are both scared and worried, while those who were aware understood the grim reality they are facing now. The untouchable forbidden forest that were bounded by a strange barrier suddenly has a hole gape open, ready to release high-leveled monsters that were kept restricted inside since the time of creation.

True to the revelation, Yu XueQin turned around while still controlling the fire. From his position, he clearly sees the darkness lurking from the hole. Images of distorted formed creatures started to march out with mad drunkenness. Yu XueQin raised his one hand and let the palm face the hole. With a burst, the flames that were being sucked transferred to the other hand, drawing fire directly to the hole.

Everyone watched in anticipation. This attack... is the emperor trying to seal the hole before monsters could come out? But before they were able to answer the question, the fire that were blasted to hole suddenly grumbled, highlighting the shadowed images of deformed monsters. Only by this sight, the people stumbled on their knees feeling the death's door coming closer.

This must be their end.
