12.2 The Covenant and the Heavenly Tribulation
"I remembered something," Lang Yuan said.
He was sitting comfortably on the side looking over the familiar scenery on the window. He just learned that this world shifted in two decades without his knowing so a lot must have changed. If he wasn't told, he will not suspect. But the changes are evident even without the knowledge. It has been eighteen years in the human world.
The grounds before are only green with a few little trees standing. However, this time, he can see a few people residing in a corner with wood houses popping out from here and there. The barren land of grasses is now filled with rice paddies with farmers working. He was busy appreciating the scene when an idea struck him. He turned around to look at Yu XueQin.
"Your Majesty told Minister Jiang that we will back after a month. Do you think they still remained the festivities after eighteen years?" Lang Yuan asked with concern.
"Indeed, I did say that we will return after a month," Yu XueQin nodded. He can't believe that Lang Yuan will remember such long memory. "Don't worry, I already sent a letter. Due to the sudden change of schedule, the wedding that was set to happen after five years in their time was cancelled."
"Right," Lang Yuan muttered as he shifted his eyes back to the window.
They have been travelling from the border towards the Town of Qian where Lang Yuan resided for a day after he arrived in this world. Despite seeing the way once, his hyperactive memory retained all the directions without a problem creating a vivid map on his hand. On their way, they went pass to that town where he showed people a magic trick. He also remembered the spots where they rested when they are travelling before. Despite the changes created by time, he can still recognize a few places by just matching the little things that retained over time.
While the mother is busy watching the scenery, the adult JiDan on his side is reading some scrolls. Zhong Song who was left to the palace to become the substitute emperor made JiDan bring some scrolls for him to pass time knowing that the little dragon will not be able to play since its interest will shift once he went down. JiDan is studying the materials they brought with interest, collecting the information like a sponge.
He was focused in reading that he did not hear his parents' conversation. Lang Yuan would occasionally ask the emperor some few questions just to satisfy his ignorance. Now that the human can read their language, he wanted to use this chance to know what the history of the place is and why he suddenly arrived here.
Right, he's trying to know why he was sent in this place.
After his encounter with Chang MingYu, Lang Yuan was able to know that there are three people from his world that was in this place. Who is the other one, he can't guess but Chang MingYu said that he knows it then it means that the third transmigrator must be someone that is close to him. Lang Yuan thought of the few people that he was close with and matched some casualties to know which could have transferred with him.
But he knows that he will not be able to realize it. After all, he cannot also remember the cause of his death. If he can get whatever information before he was transported, he will get a conclusion no matter small it is. But the only thing that he gathered is that he died together with Yan JiaYi. Who might be the other one who died with them?
His thoughts wandered everywhere when he noticed a mountain covered with foliage. The foliage is so thick that one can easily see the darkness residing on the place. Lang Yuan can see a few traces of colors emitted from the mountain itself. He subconsciously let out a sound making JiDan look at him with alert.
What did his mother see?
"That place..." Lang Yuan pointed the place as if answering JiDan's thoughts. "What is that?
JiDan looked over to the place his mother is pointing.
"Hmmm? Mother, that's the Forbidden Forest. That is where I am from," JiDan said.
"The Forbidden forest?" Lang Yuan remembered that time when he suddenly appeared in a middle of commotion. He was with the people from the YanLing Sect. He can't remember much about the details inside the forest because he was being pushed around before he was engulfed with the egg's casket. And when the egg flew up, they are transported to a forest that are miles apart from the thick mountain. It's normal for Lang Yuan to not remember anything he did not witnessed clearly.
"Right, I remembered something..." Lang Yuan said. This is the place where all of his memories transitioned. This is the place where he found his self, and also the time where he concluded that he transmigrated.
Everything started inside that forest.
"Why is it called forbidden?" Lang Yuan asked.
Well, places have reasons why it was called this and that, right? Lang Yuan remembered how people from his world usually call places after people especially the heroes that died on that place. There are also some that names place according to their color, like the yellow river, though it's not really yellow in nature.
"Because the mountain is a place for mischief," JiDan recited out from his memories. "The forbidden forest was surrounded by a force field that both traps and attracts foreign objects. Sometimes, the phenomenon was unexplainable that even the gods are not sure on how to approach it. It was a dangerous place especially for humans."
Lang Yuan was surprised when he heard this. He glared at Yu XueQin who only nodded.
"You left JiDan in that forest? That's dangerous! What could have happened if some beasts found him first and ate him!" Lang Yuan exclaimed.
"That's impossible to happen," Yu XueQin said.
"Impossible or not, you can never tell!"
"Don't misunderstand," Yu XueQin crossed his arms. "The Forbidden forest could have been the most dangerous place in this realm, but it is also the safest place to keep a treasure. My eggs are one of the kind and the most powerful next to me. If they were weak, then it would be their fault. If they die in the process then it's the fate telling that they are not meant to be born in this world."
"What kind of nonsense is that! I should really assume my father-ship to our son!"
"Revoked," Yu XueQin quickly dismissed.
"Why? You're the irresponsible parent! What could have happened if I wasn't there to get him? What if nobody tried entering the forest? JiDan could have not been borned!"
"But he was born, right?" Yu XueQin shifted his sight towards the forest. It was silent, dark, and mysterious as usual. That place is a nest for all the dragon gods residing on the upper realm.
"Also, if it was really a very dangerous place, how come that you were able to survive in that place?"
Yu XueQin wanted to point out the origin of Lang Yuan. He was sure that Lang Yuan is also one of those 'strange' phenomenon. After all, none of his people managed to get anything from Lang Yuan's past. All they know is that he is a probationary disciple that is still about to attend his exams. His existence is like an on and off - people can remember him, but nobody can tell the memory was placed.
It was as if he was injected to the place.
"There's nothing to worry about it, mother," JiDan reassured his mother. "Even though the forbidden forest is dangerous, it also contains a huge amount of spiritual energy ample enough to nurture a god. If I wasn't placed in that forest, I could have died before hatching."
This statement is very true. If Zhong Song is here, he could have explained the importance of spiritual energy for a newly hatched egg. Since JiDan is an egg, he needed a benefactor to sustain his needs. Yu XueQin can give him the energy but the Emperor only has the 'Yang' in his veins. A yin is needed to balance the energy.
The forbidden forest was surrounded by strange energy that it produces excess Yin and Yang without reasons. Since JiDan needed another supplement, he was placed in the forest where Yin is concentrated. In this way, he managed to live as a living egg for years. If anyone wanted to have him out of the place, someone should make a blood pact to become the new Yin Supplier.
Lang Yuan is male, yet, he has Yin power inside his body. He is almost the same with the mountain that produces excess energy without reason. Zhong Song found it when Lang Yuan was feeding JiDan. Since Lang Yuan's energy is infinite then he should spoil JiDan and feed him more that resulted to a healthy and smart dragon.
Lang Yuan is really indeed a good mother ah.
Though, Lang Yuan still can't believe Yu XueQin. Why would he leave such delicate object to a dangerous place? He sees JiDan as a harmless little bun so he didn't know that JiDan is pretty ruthless like his father. Well, JiDan is Yu XueQin's son, what can you expect? He is only showing this adorable side in front of his mother.
Once his mother gets hurt, JiDan could become the most dangerous creature of all.
Lang Yuan don't want to cry over the spilled milk but he held this grudge inside his heart. In the future, whenever Yu XueQin started to become unreasonable, Lang Yuan would often use this excuse to 'ban' him from 'doing anything'. Thus, it began the 'coaxing the emperor's wife' daily episode to the dogs being fed with the food.
JiDan watched his mother made an angry yet adorable gesture. He covered his mouth, stifling the laugh. Lang Yuan did not notice him because he was too focused to annoy Yu XueQin, even wanting to lecture him some Parent 101 college degree course. JiDan happily watched his mother before his sight shifted towards the Forbidden.
A sharp glint was hidden behind his red irises, emitting only the sense of murder that could kill anyone, even the immortality of the dragon gods.
