Cinthafeng
FellowshipofOCs , I present to you: Cinthafeng! He's been stewing in my mind and on my random doc for a while now. I've had a friend of mine critique him, and my critical older brother also had a say on him, so I think he's ready for the spotlight! (And I added a lot of details... I figured better too many than too few...). This is my first time entering a writing contest on Wattpad, so let's see how I do. ;)
Name: Cinthafeng (Bright Arrow in Gnomish)
Nickname(s) (Optional): He gets called Cinth a lot by his fellow march-wardens. Easier to say.
Race: Sindarin elf
Gender: Male
Age: 3,482. His birthday is in midwinter.
Appearance (eye/hair/skin color DETAILS!): Light brown hair, has a slight ruddy tint in direct sunlight. Slightly wavy. Reaches almost to his shoulder blades. Bright, hazel green eyes, that have a slight golden tint. Slightly close-set. 6', lean, lithe, but strong. Long oval face, long nose, fair skin but weathered, somewhat youthful appearance. I have an almost finished drawing of him (just need to ink and maybe color it), and I'll post that on here soon. :)
Clothes: On the marches: Comfortable and functional clothing that'll help him blend into the forest and offer some protection against any sudden attacks that might come about.
At leisure/at home: Whatever's comfortable and presentable.
Weapon(s) (if any): A longbow and sometimes sword are his preference. He can also throw knives, and he has a long hunting knife.
Combat style(if fighter): His favorite is stealth and ambush, but that is somewhat frowned upon and sometimes labeled as cowardice, so he'll go with direct confrontation.
Likes: Trees, independence, peace, starlight, the sounds of wind whispering in pine trees. He is somewhat competitive. His favorite season is summer.
Dislikes: Being cooped up, being forced to do something, spiders, stupid people, being misconstrued.
Lifestyle(Job): He is a warrior and march-warden of Thingol.
Skills: Well, he's pretty killer (literally) with a bow. He can also curl his tongue. He's great at woodcarving, and likes to make little figurines.
Favorite pastimes: Wandering through the woods when off-duty, pretending he's on some epic quest for the greater good of Beleriand. His favorite place to be is this one really tall pine tree in the eastern part of Doriath. He'll climb as high as he can get (which is usually pretty near the top), and he'll perch up there at night and stargaze.
Attitude towards others: Chill, for the most part. He does not take kindly to belittling of himself. If he does not like a person, usually because that person is being a jerk in some way or another, he'll get pretty passive-aggressive with them. He's likeable, as long as you don't know him too well... or can forgive him his faults.
Family: His father is an important scribe, and his mother is a stay at home mom. He has an older brother (Caduben), and a younger sister (Gwingel). Cinth and his older brother are pretty close in age, for elves at least, but they aren't close relationship wise. They're very different when it comes to their views on things, and that has caused a rift between them. His younger sister is way younger than both of them (still practically a child), and Cinth and she don't know each other very well. She's a sweet kid, but pretty much all she knows about Cinth is that he's a march-warden, and that her older brother, Caduben, whom she adores thinks that he's an irresponsible delinquent that didn't want his family, so she has rather a low opinion of him.
Relationships: His boss is Beleg Cuthalion and he'd consider Beleg a friend. There's this one guy called Estelon, a fellow march-warden, and Cinth would consider him his best friend. Other than that, Cinth doesn't really socialize much.
Homeland: Doriath. He spent the early years of his life around Menegroth
Where they live now: Doriath. Being a march-warden, he lives generally around the edges.
Love life? (if any): Single. So far, he has little interest in romance. And even if he did love someone, they probably couldn't have a very good relationship, as he's on the marches all the time, living a dangerous life. Unless she was a march-warden too... That is, if girls were march-wardens too... (Okay, i'm gonna look into that).
Personality(on a good day/bad day): Closest to INTP. Quiet around strangers and in unfamiliar circumstances, but when he's comfortable he can get chatty and friendly. He also has a rather sarcastic and passive-aggressive sense of humor, but he doesn't let it get out of hand, unless he's mad or something. Thoughtful, perceptive, direct, quick thinker, can be absent-minded. He comes across as a mellow and even tempered person, but can be surprisingly short tempered. He hates to be misunderstood, or his words twisted, or not taken seriously.
On a good day: He's sensitive to others, kind, polite.
On a bad day: He's insensitive, being too wrapped up in his own world, and full of sass and sarcasm. And if he's mad, his sass can become the kind that hurts other's feelings.
How do they eat?(humor us): Um, when on the marches, I dunno, meat, lembas, some greens, whatever's available. At Menegroth, I dunno, probably finer cuisine.
Favorite Foods(just do it, don't question it): His favorite foods are the random edible stuff you'll come across on a big forest like Doriath. Three-leaf clovers, dandelion greens, miscellaneous edible berries... He loves it.
Fears: He does NOT like spiders. He'd heard stories when he was a wee elfling about creeping, dark things that inhabit lands to the north, and has since then gotten the jitters every time he sees an especially big or grotesque spider. The thought of losing everything that he loves is certainly terrifying, but he knows there's like a 3% chance of that happening. In a way, he's scared of leadership, because he thinks he'd screw it up something awful. And he just might; as his confidence is already skewed in that area, he might fail "just because" subconsciously.
Weaknesses: In unfamiliar circumstances, he gets super quiet and shy. He likes to watch and observe that which is unknown to him. His sarcasm can also be hurtful if he's not careful. He's usually super indecisive, and partly for this reason, will try to deny any leadership that might come to him.
Strengths: He can usually keep a level head in a tight situation; though if something big and important is depending on him he gets stressed. He's diligent and will see a job through.
Backstory(please make this as detailed as necessary in order for us to get a feel for your character, the better we understand your character the better chances you have of continuing on): He grew up as the son of a scribe in Menegroth. He was always fascinated by what was outside of Menegroth and Doriath. When he was old enough, he decided to become a march-warden. His family was surprised, but his parents didn't object. Caduben was rather upset by his choice. Caduben regarded march-warding, though noble in some ways, as a job for lesser people. Not at all fitting for the son of an important scribe. So Caduben was resentful about Cinth's decision, and tried to talk him out of it, but Cinth would have none of it and thought Caduben was just trying to be a jerk and keep him from doing what he wanted. (He gave one of those "you don't understand me" speeches...). So the brothers parted on bad terms, and never really made up. The resentment stayed, and neither of them got rid of it, so it's just stayed, brewing, making the rift between them wider and wider.
Cinth wanted to become a march-warden because he thought he could get more out of life doing something exciting. Of course life as a march-warden is often too exciting, but he's tasted it and can never go back. He wasn't satisfied by just doing something quite at home, so he went out and sought adventure.
It took a while to adjust to the new way of living, but after he got past the miserable first part, he started enjoying it, and then started to love it. When he visits home (which is very rare, and usually because he was injured and needed some recuperation), he's somewhat amazed at how he used to live, and what he thought was necessary for comfort and stuff and how soft he used to be. He doesn't keep in contact with his family super well, so when he does visit, his parents welcome him and are glad to see their son, Caduben is... okay, but not thrilled (to be fair, neither is Cinth), Gwingel doesn't know him well at all, so she's just kinda, meh. He likes to see his parents, and he rather wishes that he could have a better relationship with Gwingel, but that's not likely to happen. He don't like being around Caduben...
Caduben still regards Cinth as a sort of wayward child, and doesn't quite take him seriously. Cinth doesn't try to do anything about this, and just wishes that Caduben would start treating him like an adult and not like some kid. What he doesn't realize is that he's not helping anything by getting mad at Caduben, and is indeed making it worse.
Thus he passes his days. He likes his lifestyle, and doesn't want to change it.
Well, hope you guys like him!
