Drawing pt. 12+feenerian headcanons and drabbles
Mom's been going through the mountains of art stuff we have and I found this
and Of Course I had to do this rad mermaid warrior ft. shark justice so instead of doing homework...
I went to town on the jewelry (you might find that i really like going to town on jewelry), and i tried to give her fish eyes with a human eye-shape. The crown was erased in the first one, but i added it in this one, meaning it to look like layers of shark teeth. I didn't include the whole tail, and i still can't draw sharks, but, it was fun :)
other thingss i've been up to for the past while.
still unfinished, will remain unfinished for probably a long time.
dearest makalaure after the War of Wrath
and hair concepts from the valinor years
I have two conflicting ideas for Maglor's hair. slightly wavy with bangs, or really smooth and straight and long and more clean cut. Either way, i've always seen his hair as being suuuper thick. I'm thinking during his younger years it was the smooth, glossy, hella long, and in Beleriand where one can't devote too much time to hair care, it got shorter, he cut it to bangs, and it got coarser.
HOO boy now we bout to get into it.
After reading the Peoples of Middle Earth, more specifically, the notes on Of Dwarves and Men, where it mentions "others who were wedded were Maelor and Caranthir" I've grown more and more attached to the idea of Maglor and Caranthir being married. They're never mentioned except for that quick note, and you can disregard it, but idk. It's something i've wondered about. Curufin had Celebrimbor, so he must have been married, but pretty much every headcanon, random bit i've read, and personal opinion has Curufin not being a terribly good husband. But Caranthir and Maglor on the other hand...
Anywho, I drew this and had an absolute blast doing it. Caranthir+wife+kid. (first time drawing a child and my mom thinks it turned out okay)
I just call her Laice which is Quenya for keen/sharp/piercing. (i'd also like everyone to know that "pasta" is quenya for smooth)
But yeah I had a ton of fun drawing this. I actually had inspiration for designing her a dress and I tried to show snippets of personality in the way she dresses and accessorizes. They're Noldor, they like making things, they like showing off what they make, they wear a ton of jewelry.
I love her dress with the high collar and the deep narrow V neck. There's a lot of detail I couldn't accentuate with just a pencil, but there's beading around the neckline and beading and embroidery on the tops of the shoulders, the belt is metal, wide and fitted to her waist. Her crown has some danglies in the back, her collar turns out at the corners to show the patterned fabric of the lining, there's a light chiffony veil thing that drapes behind her, and the dress increases in sheerness as it goes down. All her bracelets and armlets have detailing on them. I put hair beads on her braids.
I'm really pleased with how her figure and especially her face turned out. Caranthir's face didn;t turn out quite how I wanted it, but I might be able to fix that when I ink it. For his clothing,
A long leather vest with a gold border, two layers of... shoulder pads i guess. whatever it's layering. His undershirt is supposed to be a sheer material with light embellishment near the hem. Pretty simple belt. Gold choker and beneath it a gold collar with accompanying chain and pendant. Gotta say, I was pumped to give Caranthir the gold collar with a chain and pendant. Pumped I tell you. Idk why. I practically got chills while drawing it. i love art.
I meant to make their daughter be a bit older like 4-5, but she looks more like a toddler. Eh, she looks like a kid. it works. I'm sold on Caranthir and Maglor having wives in Valinor, but still iffy on the headcanon of Caranthir having a kid. it was fun for this drawing at least :).
Side thoughts: I lean towards both wives stayed in Valinor during the rebellion like Nerdanel and Anaire, but could be persuaded otherwise. I also think it's interesting that Nerdanel and Anaire, the wives of the leaders of the rebellion stayed behind when the people closest to them, their husbands and children, all left. I think maybe it's because they saw how this new and destructive way of thinking started changing the people they love and knew that this couldn't be as good as everyone's thinking. but that's just a thought poorly expressed in writing :p
I've had a lot of Tolkien feelings lately, okay?
Another one of these coming up soon (or not so soon who knows? not me) with some redesigns of my mental images of some characters, (beleg, fingon, melian, thingol, more maglor...) and more! So yeah, thank you for your time :)
