INT. HIGH SCHOOL – DAY

Science class. Lola and a bunch of her friends sit at desks near each other. On the other side of the room, Grayson and his friends sit together. Abby sits away from Grayson. She refuses to even look at him. The teacher, MRS FRASER starts the lesson.

MRS FRASER

Okay class, today we are going

to be doing an experiment in

which you will be doing in

partners.

Everyone in class starts to talk and get into partners with their friends. Mrs Fraser interrupts.

MRS FRASER

Before you all get into

partners, I have decided to mix

it up and choose your partners for

you. Hopefully this will make

you work a bit harder.

At hearing this, everyone groans.

MRS FRASER

Ok so when I call your name

I want you to put on your

lab coat and glasses and

go to a table. I will give

your instructions when everyone

is ready.

Mrs Fraser starts to call out names. As she does so the respective partners go to the side of the room and put on a lab coat and protective glasses, they then go to one of the lab tables lining the edge of the room.

MRS FRASER

Noah and Emma. Abby

and Matthew. Ebony

and Grace. Victoria and

Courtney. Grayson and Lola.

At the mention of their names Lola instantly looks across room at Grayson. Out of all the people to be partnered up with, the teacher had to pick Grayson.

Lola hesitantly gets up and goes over to get her coat and glasses. Grayson does the same. On Lola's way over to the stand, Ebony gives her a sympathetic look.

Lola and Grayson reach their lab table. It is very awkward. Mrs Fraser is still reading out names.

GRAYSON

I'm going to be the one to

say it. This is awkward.

Lola can't help but give him a small smile. She has forgotten his humour.

LOLA

Yeah. Just a bit.

To the relief of Grayson and Lola, Mrs Fraser starts to address the whole class.

MRS FRASER

Alright class, today in our experiment

we are going to measure the amount

of acid in vinegar using titration.

We will do this with a coloured pH

indicator to determine the endpoint.

You will find the instructions

on your table.

Everyone sets to work. Lola starts by looking at the instructions.

GRAYSON

What do we have to do first?

LOLA

(READING)

We have to pour one millilitre

of vinegar into a beaker. Then

we have to dilute it with 50

millilitres of water.

They do so and continue to follow the instructions. While they do so, they begin to chat.

GRAYSON

So, um, did you enjoy the

party the other night?

LOLA

Yeah. It was good. How about

you? Did you enjoy yourself?

Lola realises that she probably shouldn't of said that.

GRAYSON

Well, it was good at the

start but Abby and I actually

broke up.

Lola already knows this, of course, she was there. But she doesn't tell him that, but she can't help being slightly sour at the fact that he did the same thing to Abby that he did her.

LOLA

Oh, I'm sorry. So it didn't

end up working out, hey?

Grayson gets a sense of her slightly sour tone. He decides to be sour back at her.

GRAYSON

Yeah, well, these things happen

you know?

LOLA

Yeah. I do know.

Grayson is about to say something back at her when Mrs Fraser walks over to their table.

MRS FRASER

Everything alright guys?

I noticed that you are doing more

talking than working.

GRAYSON

Yeah, yeah, we're fine.

LOLA

Actually, no. We are not fine.

Mrs Fraser, I can't work with Grayson.

Can I go with another group?

Grayson turns to Lola. They are getting madder and madder at each other. At this point, the entire class is looking at them. Across the room, Abby smirks.

GRAYSON

What did I do?

Lola scoffs.

LOLA

What did you do? What did

YOU do? You cheated on me

for starters!

GRAYSON

I said I was sorry! I would

never do it again! I promise!

LOLA

I don't believe a word you

say.

At that, Lola marches out of the classroom. Mrs Fraser stands there dumbfounded. The entire class is silent. Ebony runs after Lola.
