Chapter One
Natasha's P.O.V.
I walked into the conference room and sat down next to Clint. What does Fury want now? I watched Fury pace in front of the room. Waiting for Tony, Peter, Bruce, Steve, and Thor to arrive.
"What's wrong, Fury? What's so urgent? You okay?" Clint asked next to me, reclining in his chair. Tony walked in and sat on my other side. And Peter sat down next to Clint. Bruce came in a moment later, sitting next to Peter. Then Steve walked in and sat down next to him. Fury stopped pacing and threw a file on the table. It slid across the surface and stopped in front of me.
"Where's Thor?" Clint asked.
"He's coming." And just like that, Thor walked into the room, sitting next to Tony.
"Open the file, Romanoff." I opened the file and gasped. "You are going after a seventeen-year-old boy who has been suspected of terrorism. He has evaded S.H.E.I.L.D. for years. Since he was twelve actually. His name is Perseus Jackson."
"Perseus Jackson?!" Thor exclaimed. "You want to apprehend Perseus Jackson? He is not a terrorist; he is a hero! On Asguard, we tell stories of his many accomplishments and of his selfless bravery and of his power. Of his loyalty and courage, in hopes that someday, our own children will be like him." Thor squealed like a fangirl. "You wish to take him into custody? Well, may luck be with you! None of you are a match for him! I would like to watch your pathetic attempts to take him, though! It should be great fun to watch! If he feels like playing with you... Good luck capturing him. You'll need it!" Thor laughed and walked out of the room. "I would not be caught dead trying to capture the mighty hero! He would surely be most unpleased. I do not wish to die." He laughed again and disappeared from view.
"Well, that was unexpected." Peter said.
"What's so great about this kid?" I asked, confused. He didn't look like much. He had a slim, swimmers build, bright, beautiful sea-green eyes, a messy mop of unruly black hair that hung somewhat in his eyes. He had a crooked smile that drew you in, making it impossible to look away from him. He was actually quite cute. But in the way he held himself, I could tell that he was on guard, ready to take action at a moment's notice. And in his eyes underneath the glint of laughter and mischievousness, was something darker. A sadness and a fear that said 'I've seen things that I wish I could forget; things no one should have had to see.' It was unsettling. Something told me that this kid was dangerous.
I passed the file around the table. To Tony, then to Clint, to Peter, to Bruce, to Steve. Until it once again reached Fury.
"There's something about that kid that says that we shouldn't underestimate him." Steve said after Fury took back the file.
"Yeah, he's a little older than me and you guys made a mistake when you all underestimated me. I say we should be careful." Peter said. The team nodded in agreement.
"Suit up. I want this kid captured and here by tonight. Head to Montauk. Sources say he's been spotted on the beach with a blonde girl." Fury said, and he left the room. We all split up and went our separate ways to our rooms. We gathered again a few minutes later and headed out to capture Perseus Jackson.
Percy's P.O.V.
I was hanging out with Annabeth at the beach in Montauk. We were taking a short vacation for my birthday. We had rented the cabin me and my mom used to use when I was younger. We were cuddled together, her head rested on my shoulder, watching the waves lap the shore.
"Annabeth," I said, looking down at her. She looked up, her stormy grey eyes meeting mine and I stared deep into their depths. "I love you." My angel smiled. Yes. I have decided that that is what she is. She is perfect as only an angel could be. Her grey eyes framed by her blonde curls, she was smart, beautiful, she always had my back, she was strong, and she was a demon on the battle field.
"I love you to, Seaweed Brain." My angel said, leaning up and kissing me. I closed my eyes and put my arms around her waist, pulling her onto my lap. She wrapped her legs around my waist and her arms around my neck. We pushed our lips together eagerly. I wanted her. I wanted my angel more than anything else in the world. I pulled her closer, our bodies close. She pushed herself into me eagerly and I fell onto my back, with Annabeth on top of me.
I rolled over and I was on top of her. I pulled away from her kiss and she leaned forward, not wanting me to pull away. I gazed into her eyes and leaned down. I kissed her cheek, her jaw, her neck, her shoulder, my lips traveled down her arm. A groan of pleasure fell from her mouth.
She placed her hands on my bare chest and leaned up, kissing my shoulder, my neck, my jaw, and then our lips met again. A small sigh of pleasure escaped me. We kissed passionately and desperately. We both wanted the other so badly, neither of us wanted to let the other go. All I was aware of was my angel beneath me. He lips on mine, her hands on my chest, her legs wrapped around my waist. I rolled onto my back and she was on top of me again. I entangled my hands in her hair and she got hers trapped in mine.
When we finally broke apart and sat up in the sand again, we were both breathless and her hair was a mess. But she was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I sighed in delight and lay my head on her shoulder. I closed my eyes as I felt her lean her head on top of mine. We sat there and cuddled, enjoying each other's company and the fact that we were alive. We had survived another war, and we had survived another year. We were both eighteen now. I had turned eighteen this morning. I felt seven presences behind me. I put my hand on Annabeth's lap and pulled my head off her shoulder.
"Can't a guy celebrate his birthday with his girlfriend in peace?" I asked, not looking away from my angel's stormy grey eyes. I stood up and helped her to her feet. Pushing her behind me, I turned to face the seven presences I had felt.
I took one look at them and burst into laughter. These guys were a joke! One was a human flag, another had on a metal suit, one was a red head with the black widow sign on her suit, one was dressed like a spider, one looked like a regular guy, another was a god, but he hung back. I could see another trying to hide in the tree.
"Perseus Jackson?" The red head asked. I spread my arms wide and smiled.
"The one and only! And what may I do for you fine people today?" Annabeth screamed when she saw the guy dressed like a spider. She cowered behind me.
"Spider! Killitkillitkillitkillitkillitkillitkillitkillitkillitkillitkillit!!!" She hid behind me and pointed at him in fear. Her eyes were wide and they stayed focused on him. I pulled riptide out of my pocket but left the cap on. "Head back to the cabin, Annabeth. And would you start making dinner please? I'll be back with you in a little bit."
"Come with us, Perseus." The red head said. "I do not wish to hurt you but I will if necessary." I smiled.
"First of all, it's Percy. Not Perseus. Second, come with you? Na. I'm having a good time right where I am. As for you using force and hurting me if necessary, well. Come at me, bro!" I kept a relaxed stance and a bored look on my face as the red head pulled out two guns.
Natasha's P.O.V.
This kid seemed pretty cocky. Maybe this would be easy after all. I pulled out my guns and shot tranquilizers at him after the blonde, his girlfriend, Annabeth, I think he said her name was, was out of the way. Clint shot a tranquilizer arrow at him as well.
He danced out of the way of my darts and caught Clint's arrow. He looked over at us with a bored expression. "Is that all?" he said. With a flick of his wrist that I couldn't even follow, he sent the arrow back at Clint who fell out of the tree he was hiding in. Apparently, that wasn't the best hiding spot. Either that, or this kid was really good at noticing small details. Maybe he's is better that we thought. I pulled out my knives and ran at him. He uncapped his pen and it grew into a sword. I was surprised. What kind of technology was that?
I ran at him and he just stood there, swinging his sword carelessly in his hand. I was on top of him, I stabbed at him with one of my knives but he just stepped to the side. I sliced with the other and he backed up. With a flick of his wrist, my knives flew out of my hands. He had disarmed me without even trying! I growled, this kid was good. I dropped down and swung a kick at his legs, but he just sidestepped out of the way. I was left unbalanced. I could tell he was bored. He was tired of this fight. He was just playing with me. He could have ended it before it even really started, I realized.
"You're just playing with me!" I said, looking up at him as he leaned over me.
"Yes. I am. It was fun, but I'm bored. That was too easy. Sorry about this." He whacked my head with the hilt of his sword, and the world faded to black.
Steve's P.O.V.
I stared in shock at the kid. He just took out two of the best assassins in the world without even trying.
"Who's next?" He said, looking bored. "No one?" He said when none of us stepped forward. "Well, let me move her out of the way then. And maybe then you'll come try your luck." He scooped up Natasha and carried her over to the tree where Clint lay knocked out. He set her down gently next to him and walked back over to where he had been before. "Anyone?" He said. I and Tony looked at each other. He nodded. We'd take him on together.
Tony turned on his boosters and flew into the air, and I hefted my shield, running toward him. I threw my shield at him and Tony fired some blasts at him. The kid moved to the side, snatched my shield out of the air, and held it up, covering himself from Tony's blasts. They hit my shield and bounced off. Instead coming towards me. The blasts caught me and I fell the ground as the world turned dark.
Tony's P.O.V.
Impossible. He caught Cap's shield and took him out with my own plasma blasts. He stood up after Cap crumpled to the ground and looked at me. Oh shit. I'm in trouble. I thought as the kid eyed me. I just hovered in the air, watching him as he assessed me. Then, he pulled back his arm and threw Cap's shield. I didn't move. There's no way he can throw it hard enough to actually hit me. But at the last moment, I realized just how wrong I was. As the shield flew through the air, I dried to drop out of its path. But instead of getting out of the way, the shield just hit my helmet. My suit lost power and shut down. I lost consciousness as I plummeted back toward earth.
Peter's P.O.V.
I was shocked. This kid had some moves. He was good at this. He had taken out two assassins, Captain America, and Iron Man like it was nothing. He wasn't even trying! I shot webs at him, but he just moved out of the way. Thor finally decided to join the fight. Good! With Thor fighting, we'll win for sure! I thought. But I was sooo wrong.
Thor threw his hammer. But the kid just ducked under it. He snatched it out of the air and held it like it weighed nothing. I was shocked.
"I thought you said only you could pick up your hammer!" I yelled back to him.
"Nay, friend! I said only a truly worthy warrior could lift my hammer. And he," Thor pointed to the kid, "He is a truly worthy warrior. Even more so than I." I didn't have time to reply because the kid threw the hammer at me. I hadn't noticed, but Bruce had changed into the Hulk. I dove out of the hammer's path, but the green-guy was right behind me. The hammer caught him in the head and he crumpled, changing back to Bruce. I snuck up behind the boy and shot webs at him from the back. Thor called his hammer back to him. The boy moved out of the way of my webs and ran toward the tree. I followed.
He reached the tree and jumped up. He pushed off the tree with his feet and flipped through the air, landing behind me. I spun around and my spidey-sense went off just as he dropped into a crouch and swung his leg out in front of him. He swept my feet out from under me and I landed hard on the ground with an oof. I lay on the ground, dazed. I sat up slowly. I saw Thor kneeling at the feet of the boy, it sounded like he was begging for mercy. The boy nodded and whacked Thor in the head with the flat of his blade.
Wait, when did he get that back? I thought that he had dropped it when he was fighting Natasha. He was nowhere near the spot where they had fought. Thor crumpled to the ground and I was all that was left. I got silently to my feet. The boy was still focused on Thor. I snuck up behind him. At the last moment, he whirled around and my webs covered him. Wrapped in my webbing, the kid struggled and fell on his butt.
I leaned over him and smiled. "I got you!" I celebrated. Then I made the mistake of looking into his eyes. He made huge eyes, filled with fear. They were baby seal eyes. Worse than bambi eyes. Worse than any other kind of look anyone could make.
"Please..." His voice shook, "Please, don't hurt me... I don't even know why you guys are after me... I... I just wanted to spend my birthday with my girlfriend. We haven't had much time alone together for a year now, I think a little over that. The time we did have alone together was short... Or..." His eyes filled with horror and tears slid down his face, "Or we were in hell." He said quietly. I stared at him in shock. He held me with those huge, baby seal, watery, sea-green eyes. I gave.
"I won't hurt you. I promise. Here, let me help you." I said carefully. I took out a knife, he flinched back and eyed it with terror. "I'm just going to cut the webbing off. I'm not going to hurt you." I said gently. He kept scooting back from the knife in my hand. I grabbed his arm and held him in place as I began to saw through his bindings. I was about a quarter of the way through them, when he suddenly flipped to his feet and kicked the knife out of my hands. He flexed his arms and the webbing snapped like it was as easy to rip as paper. His eyes hardened and I mentally kicked myself for being so stupid. It was just a trick.
"Sorry, dude." He said, all traces of fear and weakness gone. He pulled back his arm, and punched me in the jaw. It hurt like hell and then, the ground rushed forward to meet me very suddenly.
