Prologue
"Thame, I don't mean to get involved in your personal matters, but perhaps you would like to add something more personal to your interview. You simply repeated by heart the speech Pemika prepared for you" Po remarked, since it was clear that Thame was hiding something behind that cold facade. Thame hesitated, there was something in Po's attitude that made him feel safe, but apparently it wasn't enough to make him open up about his true feelings.
"I don't see the need to do this. I agree with everything in that speech, so I'm sure that it will be enough. Let's try one last time, I need to get back home to prepare my luggage" Thame responded calmly, managing to conceal his true intentions. He knew he was doing all this for his friends, even if they didn't understand it.
On his way back home he meditated on Po's words more than once, however it wasn't enough to convince him to change his mind. He truly believed that the opportunity to turn back had long since passed, and that only by accepting the offer to work as an idol in Korea could he grant his friends the freedom they so desperately longed for.
While preparing his luggage, his phone vibrated. He wasn't surprised when he saw that he had received a message from Pepper, the one who had attempted to remain closest to him during this last turbulent period.
"You would have discovered it on your own sooner or later, I'm so sorry" Pepper wrote. At first Thame thought it was just his friend being a little too dramatic, but it only took him a few moments to realize what he really meant by that message.
The message Pepper sent was right above a video. The video displayed Dylan singing on a stage in what seemed to be an abandoned building. He wasn't alone, though, a large crowd was cheering for him as he sang. After the first line of Dylan'a freestyle, Thame felt his heart break.
Yo, Thame made the call, now he packin' his bags,
Guess loyalty's a myth when they flashin' the cash.
Said you stood with the squad, said you built somethin' real,
Now you chasin' a contract, tell me how does it feel?
Talkin' 'bout the craft while you toss it aside,
You ain't crossed the border yet, but you crossed the line.
Leader of the pack? Nah, you breakin' the chain,
Hope the flight's worth the fall when you leavin' in shame.
After the first few lines, Thame dropped the phone onto his bed. He grabbed a pillow and hugged it tightly as he felt himself lose control. Suddenly he felt so weak that he waited until the clip restarted for the tenth time before finally closing it. Every doubt had faded, now Thame knew for sure that he wasn't welcome anymore and that the only choice was to leave.
