Thirty: Team Bonding
Locking his blade with Thalia's, he instantly found a weak spot and shoved both their swords in her direction, sending her stumbling back.
"Ooh, you're out of practice." Sky grinned, swinging his sword back to starting position.
Thalia scowled. "Am not!" She leapt forward and clanged her sword against her mentor's.
"Are too." Sky smirked. "I can tell."
"No, I used my sword everyday!"
"To practice or to fight?"
"I multi-tasked!" Thalia spun around and tried to knock the Commander's feet out from under him, but he was too quick, leaping over the attack.
"No you didn't, there's a difference." Sky landed and kicked her sword out of her hand. She looked like she was about to run after it when she felt the wooden practice blade belonging to her commander touch her neck. "See?"
Thalia scowled and shoved the sword away. "Look, I was busy." She picked up her practice sword and spun it around once before sliding it into her sheath and placing a hand on her hip. "Besides, it was my first real mission, cut me some slack."
"Alright, alright. But you better work on it next time." Sky said, sheathing his own practice sword.
Thalia rolled her eyes. "Right, well, can I be dismissed? I get to show the others Star Trek in Kevin's quarters and I'm already ten minutes late."
Sky shrugged. "Can't see why not." He replied, waving his hand as he turned away. Then he stopped just as Thalia was about to leave the training hall. "Oh! Wait!" He exclaimed.
Thalia stopped, crossing her arms. "What's up?"
"You know the Harvest Fest? The one the village holds?" Sky asked.
"Uh... Yeah, I think Kevin's mentioned it once or twice. It's this weekend, isn't it?"
"Yes, and every year we open up the gates of the base and let all the village people in to look around. And in the training hall, we open the fighting rings so kids can go in and fight the warrior with practice swords. Now, I asked one of the Star Cadets to be the warrior from one to two, and I want you to be the guard that stands by it."
"What? Why me?"
"Because you're my apprentice." Sky replied. "Besides, you're only doing one shift. At two, you can leave and go enjoy your day off with your friends."
Thalia sighed. "Yeah alright. "Who's this Cadet?"
"You'll see." Sky replied. "But needless to say, you won't be bored." Sky started to turn away, but once again got an idea. "Oh yeah, and when you get into character..." Sky smirked mischievously. "Wait until the Cadet's in the middle of a fight and suddenly shout, 'Red diamond.' In a really urgent tone and just go with it."
"Wha-?"
"I know it sounds nuts but just do it. It'll be worth your while."
Thalia cocked an eyebrow, but said nothing as she shrugged and left. As soon as she was out of ear shot, Sky burst out laughing at the very thought of his own idea.
Thalia ran to her own quarters, quickly changing into a white shirt, black shorts, and a grey robe before grabbing a box of tea and, after a quick thought, a blanket before running to the boy's quarters only in her socks.
She knocked on Kevin's door, which was answered immediately by an equally casually dressed Venom. "What took you so long?" She demanded grouchily.
"Sorry, the Commander held me up." Thalia replied, crossing the room over to Kevin's stove and pulled a kettle out of the cabinet. "Go ahead and start it, I'll make the tea."
Logan nodded and pressed play on the Netfix video and it began with the old music, opening in the words, "Captain's Log, Stardate 3090.33."
Logan straightened up and paused the episode. "Hang on, I thought Patrick Stewart played the captain."
"You mean Picard?"
"That's the one."
"No no, he plays the captain of the Enterprise D, in The Next Generation. We're starting with Kirk in The Original Series."
"Oh, okay..."
"Well how long is that gonna take?" Kevin asked.
Thalia shrugged. "Three seasons." She replied.
Logan whistled and started the episode back up. "Best get started then..."
"Hells yeah." Venom sat down on the bed beside Kevin. "I can't wait till Chekov comes in."
Thalia only winced and decided to let Venom discover that the adorable Russian character didn't come in until season two on her own.
Logan hummed, smiling a little. "I love Earth television."
