Destined to be Together (TanFang)

It hadn't even been a month since Tan and Fang decided to move in together. After being together for more than 3 years, it was finally time for them to take a step further into the relationship.

Phum and Peem had moved in together long ago. After waiting so long to finally start dating, they became too impatient to wait anymore.

Tan, on the other hand, after seeing his best friends move in together, had insisted on moving in with Fang multiple times but Fang explained that he needed some time, especially because he was nowhere near free with all the work he had been assigned. Tan waited because it was Fang. He always did.

After preparing for 1 and a half months, they could finally live together. Tan finally got the chance to hug his baby to sleep every night. Who would have thought that it won't last for long?

It was just another usual day. Tan had an interview at a job he applied for. Though Tan didn't really seem to study much when he was in university, it was a bit of a different case for him. He was naturally quite intelligent when it came to paying attention to details which led him to do good in his exams anyway.

As for the job, as confident and open as Tan was, he was sure he'd certainly get the job.

Tan came back home to surprisingly find the door open to their house. He rushed in and found the house a total mess. Papers were scattered all around the floor.

“Fang?” Tan called out, slowly entering the house, avoiding everything around. “Teerak?” He called out again but no answer roamed. Tan’s whole body paused at the strand of silence, his mind roaming to the worst possibilities.

What if something happened to Fang?

What if he's mad at Tan for taking so long to come back and not waking Fang up before he went to the interview?

What if Fang's done with him?

What if he doesn't love him anymore?

What if he wants to break up?

Tan panicked. His eyes almost got filled with tears at the mere thought as he rushed into their room, searching every corner of the house for any evidence of Fang. But nothing, only silence.

His panic raised. He felt like he couldn't breathe. He rushed everywhere and checked the closet. No! There's no sign of Fang's clothes in the closet.

His worst nightmare was coming to reality. Fang was done with him. Fang didn't love him anymore.

Tan went back to their room and noticed a folded post-it note on the bedside table. With trembling hands and a heart that was almost about to push itself out of the body, he picked up the note, unfolding it.“Sorry.” That's it. That's all the note said. Tan flipped the note over a few times to check if there was anything else written but that was all.

Tan didn't understand. Why? What did he do wrong? His mind roamed to the flashbacks of their relationship. Was he really that annoying? He did everything to keep Fang happy then why did he…? He teared up. He didn't understand why that was happening. He didn't want to understand.

Tears fell from Tan’s eyes non stop as he fell to the ground next, leaning on the bed. He gripped his hair tightly and pulled them in an attempt to ease his pain. But he failed. His internal pain grew with every single second as realization hit him. Was he too clingy? Too immature?

Everyone around him always said that he wasn't a great match for Fang. Were they right? Did Fang deserve someone better?

Tan's vision got blurry. His eyes started turning red from tears. He could feel his breath hitching, his heartbeat threatening to stop. Before he knew it, he was lying unconscious on the ground.

* * * * *

Fang had just got out of Phum's house in an attempt to meet Tan and clear things up. Everything happened so quickly that Fang didn't have time to explain to Tan anymore. But now that things were back on track, he knew he owed Tan an explanation.

Fang pushed open the door and found the room just how it was before. Not a single change. It made him wonder if Tan was even back. He silently walked to their room but his breath immediately hitched at the sight of the room.

Tan was lying on the floor unconscious. Fang immediately panicked. He didn't know what to do before he decided to get up and bring some water.

Once back, Fang sprinkled a bit of water on Tan's face, kneeling down right next to him, holding him with his hands.

Tan finally opened his eyes. Being met with Fang's soft gaze, he immediately melted. “Fang…” He murmured before swiftly sitting up and hugging Fang tightly.

Fang was still concerned but he hugged Tan back and patted his back slowly. “What happened?” He asked but he got no answer.

Tan slowly pulled out of the soft embrace, once satisfied. He looked at Fang eagerly. Fang’s lips turned up to form a smile. “Come. Sit on the bed. You're unwell.” Fang steadily held Tan by his shoulder to get him up. They both sat on the bed.

“About earlier…” Fang started, his eyes locked into Tan's red eyes. Before continuing, Fang's hand lifted up to caress Tan's cheek, going over Tan's teary eyes in a comforting way.

“I had got an emergency so I had to go. I'm sorry.” Fang continued, regretting his sudden decision even though it was urgent.

“Where did you go?” Tan asked, his voice almost broken as he attempted to sit up properly and hold himself together.

“Phum’s house. Dad got into an accident…” Fang replied, his hands still fixed on Tan’s face. He couldn't explain how scared he was or how concerned he was when he saw Tan in that condition. It scared him very much and even now, he was scared after getting to know that his sudden departure was what resulted in Tan's condition.

Tan got alerted after understanding that he might have taken the wrong conclusion over the situation. He fixed his posture, trying to reassure Fang that he was alright. His expression changed into more empathetic towards the situation. He tried to understand.

But Fang's expression didn't change. It was clear that everything that had happened was scaring him to the core. He shifted his body in an uncomfortable manner. His eyes still faced with concern and fear, looking directly into Tan's eyes. “I- Everything happened so fast that I- didn't have the time to give you a proper explanation.” Fang explained, his tone already panicking again. It took him a long time to realize what was actually happening. It was hard to process but at least, he had quick reflexes to not hold back and do something about it.

Tan noticed that Fang was fidgeting. Panicking, to be more specific. His hand landed on Fang's waist. “Hey, it's okay.” Tan murmured.

Fang's body responded to the touch as he calmed down just enough for Fang to continue his explanation. “I'm sorry, Tan. I'm going to have to stay with dad today.” Fang finished.

Tan nodded understandingly, all the doubts he had over were finally cleared. For a few seconds, he felt stupid for jumping into such a conclusion. “And how is he now?” Tan asked, his lips finally forming a reassuring smile.

“He's going to get discharged tomorrow. It's just a broken leg.” Fang replied. “I thought I'd text you but the connection in the hospital was terrible.”

“It's okay. I'm fine.” Tan's smile widened. He looked into Fang's eyes and saw what he always saw. Sincerity. He couldn't believe how stupid he was to think that man would leave him like that.

“But you fainted. I was worried to death.” Fang's reply made Tan want to cry. He knew Fang worried about him, he knew Fang loved him but hearing him say it himself was always another kind of pleasure.

“I fainted because I thought you broke up with me.” Tan murmured slowly, followed by a sigh.

Fang's smile widened. His hands roamed to Tan's hair, wiggling them slightly. “You're silly. I could never.”

Tan let out a giggle, feeling as happy as ever. With Fang, he was always the happiest. “Teeraaaaaak.” Tan yelled as he hugged Fang tightly. Fang rolled his eyes, pretending to be annoyed as always. “Here we go again!”

Now that he came to think of it, Fang really was his happiness. He didn't know how he would survive if his happiness was truly gone one day. Only the hint of Fang being gone had him in such a situation. What if he actually left him someday? Well, that'd be a discussion for another day.

On the upcoming days, until that day actually comes, Fang and Tan would probably bring up the memories of Tan's stupidness o. that day and laugh together. It'd stay as a good memory until it wouldn't anymore.

The End.
