A dangerous escape

When Kolivan contacted him, Thace knew it was time for him to get out of Galra Central Command as soon as he could, but first he had to detonate the main power core and rescue (Y/n) from her prison cell. He knew there was a chance he was going to die; he was determined to live, though, for (Y/n's) and his own sake. When the druids captured and tortured him, Thace thought he was going to die until one of the druids unknowingly gave him a way to escape. Being zapped by their magic took most of his strength and energy away, but he was determined to save (Y/n) and escape with her. Running through the long, twisting corridors was very painful for Thace; the injuries he sustained from the druids' magic covered most of his body.

Their torture was one of the most physically painful things he had ever been through, yet he managed to survive thanks to his determination. His first destination was the brig where (Y/n) was kept and thankfully the guards weren't anywhere to be seen. Thace ran over to (Y/n's) holding cell as best as he could while limping, looking through the little window and feeling a flood of relief flow through him when he saw that she was in her cell. As (Y/n) was sitting in her cell while waiting for Thace to visit, she heard the brig doors open before hearing someone running over to her holding cell. She was a little confused until her cell's door opened, only to reveal her usual guest who ran in, knelt down and carefully picked her up bridal style.

"Thace, what's going on?" (Y/n) asked Thace with curiosity, quietly gasping when she saw some of his injuries; something was obviously going on.

"We're getting out of here, but first I have to meet up with an ally of mine to detonate the main power core." Thace replied as calmly as he could while standing up, locking gazes with (Y/n) for a moment.

"We're what?! And who's this 'ally' of yours?" (Y/n) questioned, worried that something dangerous was happening and they would get in trouble.

"Everything will reveal itself soon. Right now, we need to get out of here." Thace answered firmly before carrying (Y/n) out of her holding cell for the last time; if everything went well, they would finally be free.

(Y/n) was unnerved by the sudden situation; everything was the same as usual until Thace came to get her. She held onto the galran male as best as he could while she was carried through the long hallways, knowing where they were going but not knowing why. Thace was a loyal galran lieutenant, so it confused her as to why he wanted to detonate the main power core. (Y/n) remembered hearing the guards occasionally chatting about a group of galra who weren't loyal to Zarkon and were trying to get rid of him, although she thought it was just a rumor.

"Are we going to be okay?" (Y/n) queried nervously, gripping Thace's uniform while his arms were wrapped around her body.

"Only if we get out of here alive." Thace admitted, his voice breathy and slightly choppy while he spoke and ran at the same time.

(Y/n's) heart raced in her chest after what Thace told her; if they got out alive, he said. She hoped they would get out alive so that she and Thace could finally be free, assuming he was escaping with her. However, he also said that he needed to meet up with an ally; whoever it was,
(Y/n) hoped they were a part of a group of freedom fighters or something. Thace was scared about detonating the main power core because he could possibly die and so could (Y/n), but it was something he had to do in order to help Voltron. With the thought of freedom with (Y/n) on his mind, he was determined to get out alive with her.

__________

Thace carefully put (Y/n) down next to the console as soon as he was in the main power core room, beginning to type something on the holoscreen. He knew that time was extremely limited and he had to work as quickly as possible. He and (Y/n) turned around when two druids entered the room, both of them ready to attack until someone slid out from behind a different console and threw a sword at one of the druids, effectively killing him. (Y/n) hid behind the main console while Thace and Keith worked together to kill the second druid, both of them working well together. To her surprise, it was one of the Voltron Paladins Thace was meeting up with; after the short fight ended, Thace returned to what he had been doing before.

"What exactly are you doing?" Keith asked Thace after walking over to the older man, not knowing what his exact plans were.

"I'm using the main power to overload the system." Thace answered in a simple yet firm tone, looking up at Keith with a neutral expression.

"You're turning the room into a bomb." Keith spoke in disbelief, his eyes widening while he looked down at the older Blade.

"Thace, you can't be serious! You're going to get us killed!" (Y/n) added loudly while she began to panic; she felt so betrayed by her long-term friend in that moment.

"It's the only way." Thace responded grimly, standing up while looking down at (Y/n) and Keith; he knew exactly what he was doing and that he might not make it out alive.

After he turned around and started typing on the holoscreen again, Keith and (Y/n) whipped around when the door was blown apart. (Y/n) hid behind one of the consoles and covered her head while Keith shot at one of the main computers, successfully blocking the doorway. She listened to Thace and Keith's conversation and looked down to where her galran friend pointed to, seeing their escape route and wondering if he lost his mind. (Y/n) lost track of the following events after the blockade was blown to pieces and some sentries walked in, blasting at the three of them. Keith grabbed (Y/n) and jumped down their escape route, holding her tight against his body so that she wouldn't fall.

"Wait, we need to go back for Thace! He'll get killed if we leave him!" (Y/n) yelled while Keith used his jetpack to fly them out of the danger zone, looking back with tear filled eyes.

"Don't worry about Thace, he knows what he's doing." Keith reassured her as best as he could, albeit not in a very convincing way; he wasn't actually sure if Thace would make it out alive or not.

(Y/n) let out a sob when she realized what Keith meant; Thace was going to die and she was never going to see him again. Over the time she knew him she started getting feelings for the galran man, but she never got the chance to tell him how she really felt. Keith felt bad for the young woman; he could tell that Thace meant a lot to her. As he flew towards his exit in Galra Central Command a big blast could be heard and debris began falling everywhere. And, for a moment, it seemed like all was lost for (Y/n) and all she could feel was remorse and numbness.

__________

(Y/n) rested her chin on her crossed arms that were on top of her knees which were drawn up against her body while sitting on the steps in front of one of the two healing pods that were being used for the two injured Blades. After the explosion, Thace was projected out into space and Keith saved him with the Red Lion just moments before he could suffocate. (Y/n) cried while she kept an eye on Thace during the journey back to the Castle of Lions, happy that he wasn't going to die and thankful he didn't betray her. After all was said and done, he and Antok were placed in healing pods where their bodies would be healed as much as possible. (Y/n) was determined to stay in front of Thace's pod until he came out, not wanting to leave his side; Thace jumped down the escape route at the last moment and used his own jetpack to escape, even though he got burned in the process and only suffered other minor injuries.

"Hey, how are you doing?" Shiro calmly queried after he walked into the infirmary and sat next to (Y/n), not wanting to frighten the young woman too much.

"Hi." (Y/n) mumbled quietly while she continued to look down at the floor; she wasn't used to being around other humans, so being around the Paladins was very overwhelming for her.

"How are you holding up?" Shiro asked her with a slightly curious tone, knowing how stressed (Y/n) was after everything that had happened only a few hours prior.

"I'm fine." (Y/n) answered firmly, glancing at the Black Paladin; she had to admit it was nice finally meeting the defenders of the universe.

"You know, you can sleep in one of the spare rooms if you like." Shiro offered kindly; he wanted to help (Y/n) in any way he could, knowing that she had been through a lot.

(Y/n) sighed before looking up at Shiro and declining his offer as nicely as possible, thanking him and telling him that she was fine where she was. After a few moments of silence, she started telling him how she got captured and about her life at Galra Central Command. (Y/n) explained how Thace was the only person who was kind to her and how she wanted to be there when he first came out of the healing pod. Shiro listened as (Y/n) told him everything about her life after being captured, knowing how she felt; the only difference was he had been forced to fight in the arena, as well as do other things that were better off never being mentioned. After she finished speaking, (Y/n) felt exhausted, hungry and thirsty.

"I can bring you something to eat and drink if you like." Shiro spoke softly after hearing (Y/n's) stomach making sounds, an understanding smile appearing on his face.

"Thank you. It's been so long since my last meal." (Y/n) quietly thanked Shiro, feeling less anxious about being around him; part of her anxiety was due to her hunger due to going half of the day without eating anything.

Shiro stood up and walked out of the infirmary, hoping there were still leftovers in the fridge. Having four teenagers around meant that they had big appetites, thankfully there was a never ending supply of food goo. Everyone else in the castle aside from Shiro and Ulaz were giving (Y/n) the space she needed, none of them wanting to stress her out more than she already was. (Y/n) looked up at Thace, seeing his singed fur and scarred chest; the scars on his chest glowed from the druids' magic, but Ulaz said they would heal in time. When Shiro returned, he sat with (Y/n) so that she wouldn't have to eat alone; after all, he wanted her to be able to readjust to normal life and have more friends.
