Bag (xSoldier)

+Author's Note

I haven't written enough Soldier fics! I plan to do something about that.

May 27th

Some would say that it's when summer are just around the corner.

When flowers bloom, when the subtle scent of honey and summer days would waft through the air. With grass staining the knees of children;
When frogs begin to bubble their little cries into the moonlit sky.

For Jane, it was just his 'anniversary'. A painful memento of times gone by.

"You're always away. What did you expect me to do?"

As upset as he was, he had nothing to say on that day. No words to shout, or to defend their marriage.

And though she was the one who had wronged him, her words had no lie to them.

He had left her alone.

"Paul is going to actually be around for me. I've already packed my things, so don't ever call me again"

She turned away and walked out of the house. And that was the last Jane ever saw of her.

++++++++++++++++

Jane grunted. Mentally slapping himself, he shook his head and looked up from the bench he was sitting at.

"2 damned years since she left me.."
He muttered lowly.

He shot a bitter look at the pond in front of him.

'And I still remember it like it was yesterday'

He laughed at his own thoughts; They reminded him of some kind of sappy love song one would hear on the radio.

He gave a sigh and sat up straight, looking off into the distance.

It was another day in the park.

Except today would be the day someone broke his quiet routine of his trips to the park.

Had he had turned his head to the right, he would have seen a girl walking towards him.

She came towards the bench in a struggle, and Jane was still blankly staring ahead, and it took a small cough and a wave in front of his face to catch his attention.

"Huh?"

"I asked if I could sit here sir, all the other benches are full"

He dully grunted a yes, and the girl sat right next to him.

Jane went back to sulking, but was soon drawn out of his thoughts when the girl next to him kept fumbling with something.

"Hmn?"

He saw that the strap of the girl's bag had snapped, and she was trying to tie it into a knot.

Watching her fumble and trying to tie various knots, he saw she failed to keep it in place.

With a snort, he took the bag away from her and tied the ripped strap firmly into a knot.

"Why don'cha throw this damn thing away? It doesn't look like it's gonna last long anyways"

The girl turned red with shame, and took the bag from him.

Seeing how flustered she looked, he couldn't help but feel a bit sorry.

He was rather rough at times.

"What's your name"

"Huh?"

Scratching the back of his head in embarrassment, he realized it was more of a statement then a question.

"Your name miss?"

"Oh, it's (y/n)..."

Both sat in silence, and Jane mentally slapped himself as he silently pledged to never make small talk ever again.

(Y/n)'s cellphone started ringing, and she quickly took it out.

"Hello?"

Jane looked off into the distance again and tried to ignore the conversation right next to him.

"Yeah.. my bag strap snapped.. yeah.. I don't have the time to go back.."

"Huh?"

"Oh, a man helped me with the strap"

Jane bounced his leg at being mentioned.

"Yeah, ok! I'll see you there"

(Y/n) hung up and slowly stood up as she faced Jane.

"Um.. thank you.. for.. the strap.."

Jane tried to act cool about the awkward situation.

"Yeah you're welcome again"

Jane then horrifically realized what he had said and just face palmed himself, and (Y/n) suddenly started walking away.

If Jane had looked up, he would have seen (Y/n) choking down a laugh as she went.

"That was the.most.awkward that has ever happened to me. I'm never going back to that park again!"

(Y/n) laughed with her friend as she finished her story.

"Yeah but he must be around in this city somewhere right? You never know where you'll might meet him again. You might as well never leave your house ever again!"

"Damn you're right! You'll come visit me right?"

"No"

"You piece of shit"

(Y/n) and her friend burst out laughing again. They continued chatting in the café.

After a cup of coffee and a few pieces of cake, (Y/n) and her friend decided to go out shopping for a new bag.

++++++++++++++++++++

And just an hour later Jane decided to visit the mall. His friend Tavish had asked him to get some things for their next fishing trip.

Getting up on an escalator, Jane looked up to see (Y/n) walking around with another girl.

"Hmn?"

Jane saw that (Y/n) was still using her old bag.

'Why won't she just buy a new one?'

Jane tapped his foot and saw them go inside a store for bags.

With a small sigh he felt relieved that she was going to get a new one.

Despite being annoyed with himself for caring so much, he stood out the store, and watched from a distance.

And just in a few minutes they walked out without any changes.

"Hrrggh..."

Jane knew that it was really none of his business, but he just couldn't get his mind off of (Y/n) and her bag.

With a growl he marched into the store (Y/n) had just walked out of, and took a long look around the place.

A bouncy sales girl walked up to Jane.

"Hello! Welcome to Clara's Accessories! How can I help you?"

Jane glared back at the girl, causing her to flinch.

With a low growl, Jane looked down at the trembling girl.

"Give me one of your biggest, most expensive and sturdiest bag you can offer"

+++++++++++++++++++

(Y/n) and her friend laughed as they were about to call it a day.

Walking to the parking lot, they were about to leave when they were stopped by a gruff panting man holding a large paper bag.

"Hey!" *wheeze* "You!!!"

(Y/n) and her friend froze, surprised and shocked at the sudden appearence of this rugged man.

"Wait.. you're the man.."

"You...!!! Yeah you! The girl..!" *wheeze* "f-from.."

Jane failed to catch his breath, and a security guard who looked at the scene from afar was coming closer.

Jane held out the bag roughly and (Y/n) took a step backwards.

"T-take the damn thing.."

Exchanging glances with her friend, (Y/n) nodded and took the paper bag from Jane, and slowly looked inside.

"Wha..?"

Taking the dark form out, (Y/n) saw that it was a black leather purse with chains for straps. It was covered in shiny iron spikes, and it looked extremely sturdy.

"Oh! This is.."

"Yeah.. a bag! Or purse, clutch whatever you call it.. Just.. just take it!"

Jane was about to make a run for it, when the mall guard stopped him.

"Ladies, is this man bothering you two?"

(Y/n) was just staring at the bag in suprise and her friend was giggling from the entire situation.

Looking up, (Y/n) saw the guard looming over Jane, who seemed too flustered to even make a run for it.

Smiling, (Y/n) shook her head and the guard walked off shrugging.

"Thank you... uh.."

"Call me Jane"

(Y/n)'s friend had to choke down another laugh, which earned her a nudge from (Y/n).

"I.. I'd like to repay you somehow.."

Jane opened his mouth to say that he didnt do it for thanks. Instead, he shut it quickly.

There was something he wanted.

"Do you.. want to go to that park again sometime..?"

(Y/n)'s friend couldn't keep in her giggles this time, and watched the two flustered people.

(Y/n) shyly nodded and exchanged her phone numbers with Jane, and exchanged goodbyes. Jane then went his seperate way.

Walking down the path, (Y/n) had a grin plastered on her face; Something her friend did not miss.

"So much for never going back to the park"

"Oh shut up"
