"Guys...?"
Nine mercenaries stood before her, each holding a disgusted expression on their face. [Y/N] sat on the ground, fear coating her very soul. Her whole body trembled and quivered as she stared at her friends, her family.
"Bringin' ya in was a mistake..." Scout spoke up. [Y/N] stared in horror. Scout was her best friend; How could he say such a thing?
Before she could blink, Scout turned his back and walked away. Soldier snarled and followed the bostonian.
Pyro just stood there. Although his mask was on, [Y/N] could clearly tell that he was disappointed. Her eyes began brimming with tears when she saw him hold a toy unicorn, the one she gifted him, and drop it onto the ground. The first tear escaped her eye as she saw her 'younger brother' turn his back on her and walk away.
"Pyro..." She whispered. Her frail figure began to shake madly. Why were they abandoning her?
Next up was Demoman. Her older brother figure, the one who would offer a shoulder and an ear for her in her darkest times. His one remaining eye stared coldly at her as he shook his head. He lifted the bottle of expensive booze [Y/N] saved up to buy for him and stared at it with utter hatred. With a thunk the bottle was on the floor, and he followed the other three mercenaries solemnly.
"Tavish...!" She almost sobbed.
[Y/N] didn't know what to do. Her body felt like it was chained to the ground; She couldn't move at all. The only action she could do was wrap her arms around herself and hope that this wasn't real.
"M-Mikhail...?" Heavy didn't even bother to look at her as he shook his head. The tears that streamed down her face never ceased as she continued to live through this hell. Medic placed his hand on the giant's back and walked away alongside him, but not before giving [Y/N] a dirty glare. In no time, they were gone as well.
What nearly broke her heart was when Engineer, her closest friend, stepped up. His reddened, puffy, baby blue eyes stared into [Y/N]'s tear filled [E/C] ones, holding despair and betrayal.
"D-Dell, Please-" Her mouth closed shut when his hand lifted to stop her.
"... Please don't talk ta me, [Y/N]..." His voice was hoarse and raspy, as if he had been crying for hours. Without another word, he took his hardhat off his head and walked away with the others.
Spy's expression had [Y/N] cowering away in fear. If looks could kill, she would be dead ten times over. A few clinks were heard, and when [Y/N] looked up to find the source of the sound, a butterfly knife was placed under her chin, directly in front of her throat. One small move would slit it right in half.
The frenchman, her friend, who helped her through thick and thin, who trained her to be the refined mercenary she stood to be, was now in front of her with his trusty knife to her throat; he was a force to be reckoned with in his state.
"'Ou are beyond lucky zhat 'ou have respawn." The Frenchman snarled. With a sharp move, the knife was taken away from [Y/N]'s throat, leaving a small scratch. The frenchman stood up and dusted his suit before walking away.
The final mercenary standing was Sniper.
The marksman held grief in his steel blue eyes, something [Y/N] never thought she would see in her [Age] years of life. His hands shook as he clenched them at his sides and his mouth formed an angry snarl.
"Mick, PLEASE-!,"
"I don't want ta hear moi name come outta yer mouth again, [Y/N]." He growled darkly, a shadow covering the top half of his face. "Because 'a you, there isn't gonna be respawn where we're all goin'."
"B-But I didn't do anything...!"
"SAVE IT!" He shouted. [Y/N] cowered away from the red-faced marksman before her, slapping a hand over her mouth to stop herself from sobbing.
"Oi wish Oi'd left ya to rot..." With that, he walked away, leaving a trail of fury and havoc in his wake.
[Y/N] sat in her place, trembling more than a leaf on a windy day, and sobbed like there was no tomorrow. She wailed and screamed for her comrades, her family, to return, but nobody heard her cries.
The words of her friends echoed around her, forcing the girl to curl up into a ball in hopes of protecting herself from all the hurtful words that attacked her mentality.
"Bringin' ya in was a mistake..."
"Oi wish Oi'd left ya to rot..."
"......ake......up...."
"'Ou are beyond lucky zhat 'ou have respawn."
"Please don't talk ta me, [Y/N]..."
"Because 'a you, there isn't gonna be respawn where we're all goin'."
"...../N].....ake........up...!"
"SAVE IT!"
".../N], wake...up!"
"Oi don't want ta hear moi name come outta yer mouth again, [Y/N]."
"[Y/N]! WAKE UP!"
With a bolt, [Y/N] sat up screaming, soon gasping for air and holding whatever was closest to her in a death grip, which just so happened to be the marksman she fell for. Her puffy, reddened eyes stared back at the very worried steel-blue orbs that were Sniper's. He raised his hands to [Y/N]'s face, cupping her cheeks and wiping the stray tears that fell from her eyes.
"M-Mick..." [Y/N] whispered as she gasped for air.
"Oi'm here Sheila. Oi'm here." He softly replied, stroking her cheeks.
"Oh g-god... M-Mick...!"
[Y/N] dove straight into his arms, sobbing her heart out as she held onto her crush with a vice grip. He held her tightly to his body, rubbing soothing circles into her back to help her calm down as she repeated the marksman's name over and over.
"Shh.. Shhhhhh... Oi'm here. Oi'm here, [Y/N]. Oi'm not goin' anywhere.."
It took a while, but eventually [Y/N] calmed down; her sobs had died down and she stopped shaking, instead sitting as still as a statue.
"W-What time is it...?" [Y/N] inquired.
"It's three in the mornin'..." The marksman before her answered.
[Y/N] went silent for a few moments, the only sound heard in the room was Sniper's breathing.
"Wot happened in the nightmare?" Sniper softly whispered to [Y/N] while he continued to rub soothing circles into her back. She stared back up at him.
"H-How can you be so sure it was a nightmare?"
"Well, ya don't exactly get up screamin' bloody murder while dreamin' 'bout ponies 'n rainbows, unless yer Scout," He mumbled the last part quietly. "Do ya?" [Y/N] gave out a small, weak laugh.
"Fair point, I don't even know why I asked that question in the first place."
"So. Ya gonna tell me the reason whoi you were tossin' loike a fish outta water?"
[Y/N] took a deep breath and began to speak. "E-Everyone was there, you too... They... They a-all looked at me like I-I was the scum of the earth... I don't know what I did, but they all left me, one by one... Scout, Pyro, Engie, Spy....You..." [Y/N] took a shaky breath and shut her eyes in hopes of holding back the waterworks. "I couldn't take it, the fact that you all might leave me one day, a-and that I'll
go back to how I was before I met all of you..."
One more shaky breath had the tears roll down her face. "Please..." She whispered shakily. "Please don't leave me..."
"Oi would never leave you." Sniper pulled [Y/N]'s chin up so that she would face him. "Even if they put the entire universe in moi hands, I'd throw it all away before I even think of leavin' you."
[Y/N]'s eyes teared up as she gave a weak smile. "You promise you won't leave?"
"Oi promise."
Sniper leaned down to capture her soft lips with his own slightly chapped ones, pouring every ounce of love into the kiss to seal his promise. [Y/N] kissed back, wrapping her arms around Sniper's neck to bring him closer.
The sound of someone clearing their throat had the two lovebirds break away, and both of their heads snapped to the door of [Y/N]'s room to find all the other mercenaries standing there, with Spy leading the crew.
"Is the petit alright, bushman?" The frenchman inquired. [Y/N] shrunk back slightly.
"I-I'm fine, Spy. I'm so sorry that I woke you guys up..." The girl nervously rubbed her arm.
"What were ya screamin' about earlier, Dolly?" Scout piped up, rubbing his eyes.
[Y/N] went silent for a few moments, and the mercenaries grew worried. Demo, who was surprisingly drunk despite the ungodly hour of the morning, smacked Scout upside the head with his precious bottle of Scrumpy, which earned him a yowl of pain from the boy and a smirk from the frenchman by the doorframe.
"Well, whatever it was," Engineer spoke up with a smile. "Ah'm sure Sniper here's got it covered."
Sniper smiled and held [Y/N] closer, his grin growing even wider when he glanced down at her smiling frame.
"Alright everyvone," Medic spoke. "Let's all go back to sleep. I don't vant to have to endure listening to your groans about jour petty headaches in zhe morning."
With a shared laugh among the mercs, each mercenary headed back to their designated rooms, all except Sniper.
Sniper had held [Y/N] in his arms as he lay down with her on her bed, holding her protectively to his chest. [Y/N] sighed in content as she buried and nuzzled her face to his chest, smiling all the way. The both of them tangled their legs together as they shared a kiss, exchanging 'I love you's before drifting off into a deep, peaceful sleep.
[Y/N] now knew that the nightmares would never dare to come near her again, not as long as the marksman she loved was with her.
