Ch. 2 = Packing Up

After Pauling had told Ludwig the news, the doctor was quick to tell them to grab everything they could carry that would be important. Ludwig told them to meet back at their regular spot as soon as the coast was clear and when they were ready.

Scout had immediately gone back to his tent to pack everything he could. They were coming and the three of them had to be out of the tribe as fast as possible.

He quickly grabbed his canteen of frozen water and clipped it to his waist. He then grabbed the container for his glider and put it on over his shoulder, also tucking the glider inside. Finally he grabbed his dog tags and hung them around his neck before swiftly turning on his heel and running back out to meet at their spot. The sun was just at its top peak to signal noon, but it felt like a cloud of darkness was looming over them.

Jeremy quickly ran to their spot, breathing heavily. He looked around, seeing Pauling coming up.

"Where's doctor Ludwig?" She immediately asked.

Scout looked around, looking down to the colony of tents. "Look! There he is!" He pointed.

Ludwig quickly came up. A canteen of water on him as well. He carried only a satchel on him. "Come on. We need to clear out." He stated then started walking.

Pauling and Scout hastily followed him.

Around 3:00 after the sun was at its highest peak did they really feel the rumble of marching soldiers. The sky visibly darkened as smoke filled the air.

Pauling began to grow nervous. She continued behind the doctor with Scout beside her.

Ludwig scanned the surrounding ice land ahead. "Zhere! Zhere's our boat! Go!"

Scout and Pauling both sprinted ahead to get the boat prepared. Scout honestly couldn't remember how many times they rehearsed this as a drill but this time it was real.

Ludwig came up just as they had finished untying the boat from the tiny make shift doc they had made to practice Water bending.

"Get in." Ludwig commanded, the two obliging.

Ludwig was the last to board the boat. He turned and faced the land before doing a shove motion toward it, pushing them away from the land.

As Ludwig had had them rehearse over and over before, Pauling and Scout both fell into sync. Assisting the doctor in rowing themselves further and further away from the land.

As soon as they were further away from the ice land, Scout sat down in the boat, breathing heavily from the tiring work. Water bending was much harder then Air bending.

Ludwig took over his spot for rowing, which he was thankful for.

Jeremy sat up straight, looking around. That's when he saw it. "Oh my lord."

Pauling looked up from rowing to see what the Air bender was talking about. Her eyes widened in horror. "Doctor Ludwig!"

The doctor turned, stopping his bending. "Zhey moved faster zhis time." He muttered.

Just coming into view, a massive Fire Nation ship was approaching them.

Jeremy rose back to his feet, looking at the on coming vessel. "How are we suppose go freaking take on THAT!?"

Ludwig scoffed, going to the side closest to the ship. "Hold on to something, both of you." He instructed.

Pauling went and pulled Jeremy down, holding onto him while she gripped the other edge of the boat. Jermey sat beside her and did the same.

Ludwig closed his eyes, now the only one standing. He started doing small circular motions with his hands.

Scout and Pauling both watched as the icy water around them started coming from behind them and in front of them.

The Fire Nation ship was even closer, Miss Pauling could see Fire benders going over to their side of the ship to look at them. She could see them starting to get turrets ready.

Ludwig opened his eyes and then did a large push motion, then he brought his arms down and lifted them up over his head.

Water suddenly shot from where it was gathering in front of them, and around the ship, flooding the deck of the Fire Nation ship. The ship tossed and bobbled around.

Ludwig did not final swoop with his arms and the boat suddenly lurched forward, propelling them hundreds of feet away from the vessel a second.

Scout and Pauling both started screaming as the vessel went out of sight from them.

They started slowing down after awhile, Ludwig backed away from the edge of the boat and stumbled.

Pauling got to her feet and steadied the German. "Doctor Ludwig!" She sat him down.

Scout knelt down by the doctor. "Holy crap! That was so cool! Where'd you learn that move!"

Ludwig put a hand to his head. "I've lived longer zhen you Scout. I've learned some things everywhere."

Pauling looked over the man. "That had to take a lot of energy. Just rest for now."

The German nodded, breathing heavily. "Ja... ok. Vatch for zhe main land, ve should be coming up to it late in zhe night."

Jeremy nodded. "We will doc."
