gemini
the next couple of days were pure bliss.
She told him about Chase's infidelity, he told her about his growing hatred for the world around him. She showed him what it was like to be a minority, he showed her what it was like to be ignorant. He, however, did not tell her about his heart ache for the greek goddess he always dreamt about, and she did not tell him about the times she hurt herself because of her parents. She told him her favourite colour, how gemini was her zodiac sign, how aquarius was his. He told her he didn't know his zodiac, but he did know his favourite colours, which were sea blue and sunset orange. She had taken him to her place, since it was the closest to the busstation. He wouldn't let go of her hand, even after she opened the door for him and took his jacket to lay it on the right side of her sofa. She has seen the shimmering in his eyes as he explored her small apartment, looking at the thousand of books scattered around the hard wooden floor. Her apartment consisted of two spaces, the bathroom, a small cabin with a toilet, and the living room, a small build-in kitchen in the corner, a dining table just big enough to fit two people, a bed made from two rafts, a matress, one blanket and way too many pillows. It reminded him of the death scene in titanic, those two wooden panels lying there. She had decorated the walls with millions of pictures, coloured christmas lights and vinyls of artists like Kendrick Lamar, Royal Blood, Nirvana and Nothing but Thieves. After he admired her face plastered on her favourite polaroid photo's, she took his face in her hands and kissed the corner of his temple, telling him how he was so much more than he thought he was.
Three days they spend together, watching series on her old laptop, her hands in her lap, his hands around her neck. They had fun, talked about the romantic comedies they watched, how Noah should have stopped writing letters to Allie, because why would he damage himself like that. How incredible Leonardo Dicaprio's performance was in Shutter Island, and how Clay's life was ruined by Hannah. They both agreed that life didn't work like that, how destroying a person wasn't a solution to your own problems. They however did not talk about the problems between them, how he felt like she had destroyed him, and how she hated him for the misogyny. They both knew that eventually, their friendship would either break or blossom, but neither him nor her wanted to have that conversation. So they pretended like it was all okay, until that monday morning, when her class-schedule made it impossible for them to stay together.
He woke up first, on that specific day, at the break of dawn. He touched his temples, trying to erase the growing headache in the back of his brain. The sofa he had been sleeping on felt even more uncomfortable since her cat Aida had taken most of his leg space. He growled, slightly annoyed, but when he saw how tender Ava's palms naturally touched the back of Aida's curled up neck after Aida lay down beside her on her bed. Aida purred and Ava's eyes flickered open, adjusting to the orange sunlight shining through her window. 'Hi Biscuit,' she muttered, referring to the day before, when Aida had eaten a whole pack of cookies before the two friends knew it had gone missing, to busy intertwining their fingers and cracking up over a youtube video about a panda eating multiple watermelons. 'Hi Harry.'
'We need to talk, Ava.'
