Chapter Fourteen
Well, He isn't dumb, Kaito knows that, he will find out his secret identity, Kaito was sure of it, but actually he decided to just let it happen, and sat still, acting like he doesn't care about it, neither did he pay much attention to them when they entered -he did, but he's good at acting so, he got away with it.
Shinichi and Ran approached the table, sitting down, as Ran smiled at Aoko. "Hey!" She greeted, cheerfully.
"We aren't running late this time." Aoko gave them a cheeky grin, planning that she'd try to open as much conversation as she can.
Shinichi backed out for a moment, studying the man sitting across him on the table, and well, he wasn't too happy, or was he? He couldn't decide, with wide eyes, Shinichi tried to contaminate his surprise, since he didn't want to draw much attention to it, beside KID -or whatever his real name was, was too caught up in the conversation to notice his staring, he means yeah, he knows how he can be watching everything you do secretly, but like he isn't now? And, he felt revealed, maybe their situation didn't affect him after all, and maybe he was just playing after all, that's why he doesn't look affected, but Kid, being KID, he would also try his best to hide his emotions that do-
"Shinichi," Ran whispered, next to him, "Is there anything wrong?"
"Nope, it's fine."
"Then why haven't you joined their conversation?"
"You know that I'm not really a social person." Shinichi semi whispered, semi snapped, he tried his best to lower his voice, but well, he didn't, fortunately, the couple on the other side didn't hear him, since they were so caught up in their joking and laughing or whatever, but like that's a good thing.
"So, you didn't introduce yourself, you know."
Both Ran and Shinichi broke their silent conversation- that would have ended up with a fight probably, to look at the person who asked the question, Ran smiled at him, while Shinichi didn't, he just wanted to leave honestly, it was a mistake coming here after all.
"Uh, Kudou Shinichi." He replied, in the neatest tone he could make. "And You?"
Kaito smiled, winking at him, "Kuroba Kaito." He produce a rose from between his fingers, a red one, and offered it to Shinichi. "Magician extraordinare."
When KID used to offer the detective roses or flowers during any heist, Shinichi would gladly hold it up and either put it in his pocket or add it to the vase that he was keeping at home just for collecting the flowers, but this time he just gave the magician a polite smile, taking the rose- not because he wanted it really, but he felt that it would be quite impolite to do either wise, and put it down on table, well that's an impolite move, and it did break Kaito's heart, but his heart is already broken, so like it doesn't matter any more and Shinichi didn't want to be polite at this point.
"You know Kaito's flowers are quite refreshing, you should keep yours." And that was Aoko's dumb attempt, to tell him to be more polite in a polite way, as she felt how taken back her friend was.
"I don't like them, so it would be unnecessary keeping them." Shinichi shrugged. "I tend to keep the things that I use only, other than that would be nothing but a waste of space."
Kaito eyed him for a moment, before nodding and looking up at his friend giving her a sign to shut up, however, Aoko, being herself, wouldn't be able to keep her mouth shut, so she tried again.
"You know, Kudou-Kun, I used to throw every flower away, until I met Kaito, I don't know, I guess he makes keeping them feels special somehow." She chuckled, trying to wear the silent mood away, despite how rude the detective was, Aoko was trying her best to let the night go, well, she thinks that he is no good match for her best friend, even if Kaito seems pretty mean for a dozen of people, he had got a really good heart, that's why he deserves a good one.
Well, about the flowers, she lied, she had always had this habbit of keeping every flower she owns, but she wanted the detective to take it.
On the other side of the table, Ran's worried eyes were studying Shinichi carefully, she knew something was off, even though that she was sure that he would blame it on how unsociable he was, she knew that it isn't the normal him, that's why she pushed his leg gently, and quietly once she noticed that he wasn't taking the flower.
Shinichi blinked at her, before nodding and took it.
He just want the whole thing to be over, nothing more and nothing less.
Although, having a crime happening everywhere you go is an awful thing, Shinichi does wish for one to happen right now, but with having the great luck-sucker Kid sitting before you, it's quite unlikely for one to happen right now.
But, he has a plan.
He's always prepared, He gave himself a literal pat on the back as he smirked.
....
Ten minutes later in that worthless conversation with Shinichi pretending to laugh at whatever they were saying, he doesn't even know it, he wasn't paying much attention.
His phone rang.
Shinichi gave him phone a small look, before looking at them, pretending to be apologising. "I'm sorry, I think I should take it."
Both Kaito and Aoko nodded at him, however Ran gave him a disappointed look, because she was sure that he was lying.
"Hattori!" Shinichi greeted walking away from the table, "You're a life saver."
"You owe me for doing that, Kudou!" Hattori screamed in the phone with his usual deep southern accent. "Was that person that bad?"
"Believe me the worst set up ever, I don't even want to mention how bad it was, because by all means, it would never be enough to describe it." Shinichi replied, walking to the bathroom.
"So, the next part of the plan?" Hattori said, cheerfully.
"We'll act like you arrived in Tokyo, and you need me to stay at my house, because obviously you had nowhere to go." Shinichi replied.
"I'm going to arrive in Tokyo in twenty minutes anyways."
"Oi, Oi, you know it was a plan not a real thing right?"
"Well, no you didn't mention that part." Hattori screamed again. "See you!"
And the line was dead.
......
shinichi walked back to the table, giving them a small smile. "I'm really sorry, but I think I gotta leave."
Ran raised an eyebrow. "Something urgent?" She asked.
"A crime?" Aoko guessed.
"Ugh, yeah urgent, but not a crime, a friend of mine just arrived in Tokyo, and he's waiting for me." Shinichi informed.
"Hattori?" Ran asked, "Kazuha didn't call."
"She didn't come with him," Shinichi looked at his phone again, "Well, I guess I need to hurry, we could repeat this -eh, thing again any time? Nice meeting you Nakamouri-san."
And, then he left.
......
"He was pretty rude, wasn't he?" Aoko commented as they were leaving the restaurant, gazing at Kaito.
"Uh, who?"
"The detective, Kudou-kun."
"Nope, I think he was normal." Kaito replied calmly.
"Well, when you gave him the flower he didn't take it, saying how worthless it was? And then why he was leaving he didn't even say it was nice to meet you." She exclaimed, getting a bit angry.
"Maybe meeting me wasn't a nice thing for him."
"What? Excuse me? Even if it wasn't nice he should have been more nicer?"
"I think he's fine, I liked his personality actually."
"But you didn't even get to talk to him."
"Maybe I did?"
"You know eachother before?"
"Maybe."
"Oh really? Damn you, Kaito!" Aoko screamed, getting more than a bit angry. "I think it would be the better for both of us if you stayed quiet."
"I guess you're not the only one who thinks so." He smiled at her.
