The Woman in Red

Harper: I'm lost.

Alex: Lost?

Harper: Yeah, my app keeps telling me that I'm here, but I'm still in the middle of the woods!

Harper: Ugh!

Harper: So annoying.

Alex: I still don't know why you're going out there.

Alex: It's so unlike you.

Harper: Whatever.

Harper: I wrote an entire paper on this place.

Harper: I obviously need a picture to go with it.

Alex: There are pictures online.

Harper: Cop out!

Alex: I just don't like you being out there by yourself...

Alex: I mean, it's supposedly haunted.

Harper: Ah, I wrote the paper on the old hospital.

Harper: I know what supposedly happened here.

Alex: Then you should be the last person that wants to go there.

Harper: Seriously?

Harper: Are you worried?

Alex: Honestly, yeah.

Harper: Seriously?

Harper: Well, then you should have come with me!

Alex: I couldn't get out of my shift.

Alex: You could have waited...

Harper: It would be dark by the time you're done with work.

Harper: And, while I'm brave, I'm so not into being out here at night.

Alex: What are you going to do if you can't find it?

Harper: Yee of little faith.

Alex: What?

Harper: I found it!

[Harper takes a quick picture and texts it to Alex.

Alex: That place is beyond creepy.

Alex: Please take your pictures and get out of there!

Harper: You're adorable.

Alex: Babe, I'm not kidding.

Alex: Wait.

Alex: Stop!

Alex: Get out of there!

Harper: What's your deal?

Harper: Why are you freaking out?

Alex: RUN!

Harper: Not until you tell me why?

Alex: There's a light on!

Alex: Second floor, top window, on the left!

Alex: I think I see someone in the room!

Harper: No way.

Harper: I just looked...

Harper: It's just the sun reflecting off of the window.

Harper: Chill out.

Alex: For real, Harp.

Alex: You took the picture.

Alex: Now get out of there!

Harper: I think I'm going to go inside.

Harper: Get some pictures of the rooms on the first floor.

Alex: Please don't!

Harper: Stop being such a baby.

Harper: I'm already inside anyways.

Alex: I have a really bad feeling about this...

Harper: You're worse than my mom!

Alex: What if she's out there?

Harper: My mom?

Harper: That doesn't make any sense.

Alex: No, the Woman in Red...

Harper: Don't tell me you believe that nonsense.

Alex: What, that she lures unsuspecting people in and then steals their souls?

Alex: Yeah, I believe it.

Harper: You are so lame.

Alex: Once she sets her sights on you, you're as good as dead.

Harper: I'll be sure to bring turn on my proton pack next time.

Alex: This isn't the time for jokes, Harper!

Harper: It's always time for a Ghostbusters reference.

Harper: #fact

Alex: Okay, for real, you might not believe in the Woman in Red, but I do.

Alex: Just take the pictures you need and get out of there.

Harper: Weird...

Alex: What?

Harper: I think there's music playing?

Harper: Like old-timey music...

Alex: I can't tell if you're kidding of not?

Harper: Surprisingly not.

Alex: Then get out of there!

Alex: Stop acting like one of those girls that runs up the stairs in the horror movies!

Harper: Wait, it stopped.

Harper: It was probably just my imagination.

Harper: But this isn't.

[Harper takes a picture of a wardrobe.

[One of its doors has swung open and there appears to be something inside.

Harper: Okay, this is pretty creepy.

[Harper sends Alex a picture of an old red cape.

Alex: That place closed for terrible reasons, Harper.

Alex: There are a lot of tortured souls on those grounds.

Harper: These pictures are totally going to earn me an A.

Harper: Plus, the official reason this place closed is because the coal mind collapsed.

Alex: Yeah, with like 150 people inside.

Alex: Most of them died underground.

Alex: It's like that whole place is cursed!

Alex: The Woman in Red, the haunted hospital, and the mine disaster.

Harper: True, so what else could possibly go wrong here?

Alex: The Woman in Red could steal your soul?

Alex: I would never see you again?

Alex: Your parents would be devastated?

Alex: Those all sound like pretty strong potentials to me.

Harper: You worry too much.

Harper: Wait!

Harper: Look at this!

[Harper sends Alex another picture.

Alex: HARPER!

Alex: SHE'S BEHIND YOU!

Harper: I'm going to stop texting you if you keep going on.

Alex: LOOK AT THE PICTURE!

[Harper looks down at the picture of the graffiti on the wall and screams.

[Behind her, a woman wearing a red billowing cape hovers in the doorway.

[Harper spins around, but nothing is there.

[The hair on the back of her neck stands up on end.

[An icy sensation shot through my veins.

Alex: BABE!

Alex: RUN!

[Harper sprints toward the door.

[Her chest is heaving as she emerges from the abandoned hospital.

Harper: What the...

Alex: What's wrong?

Alex: Did you get out of there?

Harper: When did it get dark?

Alex: What are you talking about?

Alex: The sun doesn't set for another half an hour.

[Chills snake down Harper's spine.

[It is pitch black outside and she can't see anything.

[Harper switches on the flashlight on her cellphone.

Alex: Harper?

Alex: What's going on?

Harper: I don't know?

Harper: It's like it's the middle of the night?

Harper: OH MY GOSH!

Harper: I SEE HER!

Alex: See who?

Harper: The Woman in Red!

Harper: She's standing in front of me!

Alex: RUN!

[Harper sprints in the opposite direction.

[She runs until her legs feel like jelly.

Alex: Babe?

Alex: Where are you?

Alex: Are you okay?

Harper: You were right!

Harper: I never should have come out here alone!

Alex: Are you at your car?

[Harper flips open her Maps app.

Harper: Crap! I ran in the wrong direction!

Alex: I know you're freaking out right now, but babe, dig deep!

Alex: Do whatever you've got to do to get to your car and drive straight here!

Harper: Oh no...

Alex: Oh no?

Harper: She found me...

Alex: RUN!

Harper: She found me...

Alex: Babe, I know!

Alex: Just get away from her!

Harper: ...

[One minute later.

Alex: Harper?

Alex: Babe?

Alex: Where are you?

Alex: Did you get to your car?

[Alex's phone dings, Harper has sent him another picture.

[Alex opens the picture.

[Harper's lifeless body is lying twisted in a heap on the ground.

[Her jeans and t-shirt have been replaced by a long, red, billowing dress.

[Alex screams and tries to call Harper's phone.

[No one answers.

[The Woman in Red has claimed her latest victim.
