Chyanne #7

The day was weird. Most people didn't seem to notice me, that was normal. Owen, Danny and Greg stared at me a lot today. It was my a spy who didn't realize camouflage doesn't work on humans. I tried to ignore it but I couldn't. It always tickled the back of my mind.

My hand strands dangled in front of my nose as I tried to work. I cupped my hand. With one sweeping motion, I moved all the hair out of my face. My hair sat like a poof on the top of my head that was slowly falling. My hair was always a mess. It was part of my style. Band t-shirts, jeans and messy hair. It was a perfect trio. My trio.

I waited at the coffee shop on campus for Sandy. She was always late. I'm not sure she could be on time if she tried. I don't think she ever intended to be, her mind is just all over the place. I swear she has four brains instead of one! The front door swung open and Sandy strolled in. She never seemed to be going anywhere fast, but she always looked like she enjoyed herself. She waved on her way up to the counter. I didn't dare try to guess what coffee she's in the mood for today. I always guessed wrong.

After she got her coffee she joined me at the table. She frowned a little.
"I'm bored with my love life, hows Mystery Man?" I smiled a little.
"Good." She raised her brows waiting for me. When I didn't answer she rolled her eyes.
"Just good? Tell me what's new? Any more clues? Has he asked for your hand in marriage yet?" I laughed.
"He has not and will not! We're barley even friends?  Just flirtatious people? Socializing individuals?"
"He's so flirting with you!" She pointed one of her lanky fingers at me. "And you're flirting too." I rolled my eyes.
"And if I am? I mean, isn't that part of the experiment? To learn someone without judgement?"
"But love wasn't in the experiment." She gave a smug smile. I shook my head.
"I do not love him, I don't even know his name." I brought to her attention. She acted like I've know him forever.
"And if you did, would you love him?" I stared at her for a moment. Would I? No, of course not.
"No." Sandy rolled her eyes.
"And pigs fly." She smiled and took a sip.

We sat and talked about everything and anything. How we never ran out of things to talk about was amazing. We were always together. We live together, go to school together. The only thing we don't do is work together and have class together. Sandy works at a local grocery store. I did logos for smaller companies, they paid well.

Mystery Man: Hello, I haven't heard from you all day.

Me: Sorry!! Just talking with my best friend.

Me: So I think a rumor is going around about me, I kept catching some guys staring at me. It was uncomfortable. Do people ever stare at you? Does it bother you?

Mystery Man: Who says it has to be a rumor? Maybe you're just extra beautiful today.

Me: Im wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt, try again.

Mystery Man: Who knows, maybe you're an athletic wear model in the making!

Me: I think I have a better chance of getting struck by lightning.

Mystery Man: To answer your questions, yes I get stared and yes it bothers me. You can't stop people from looking but you can stop yourself from caring.

Me: Wow, thats pretty good advice.

Mystery Man: Why thank you. *bows*

Me: Oh my. You just because two, you and your ego.

Mystery Man: LOL! But you still find me funny.

Me: The jury is still out on that.

A shadow towered over me. Sandy had gone to work and I was working on a logo in the coffee shop.
"Are you okay?" I looked up to see Greg, my knight in shining armor from before.
"Uh, sure-I mean, yes." I sucked on my bottom lip.
"You don't look sure."
"I don't know how to look sure." Greg smiled. Awkwardness nestled in my cheeks.
"You sure, you're okay?" I nodded. "Okay." He knocked his finger gently on the table and walked around me.
"Hey Greg?" He stopped just at my other side. "Is that why you have been staring at me all day?" He smiled as his cheeks turned pink.
"Yeah, just concerned."
"Well thank you, but I'm fine. Really." He nodded again. Across the shop sat Owen and Danny. Their attention burned on me. Greg got to the table and explained what I'm assuming our conversation was. Owen still watched me. I finally turned attention back to my laptop.

Mystery Man: Yes or no, would you eat for one day straight if it meant you couldn't eat for a week?

Me: Well does my body preserve the food or will I get hungry?

Mystery Man: Hm, good question....

Mystery Man: Preserve it.

Me: No.

Mystery Man: Then why'd you ask?

Me: Well I needed to know how committed to the question you were!!

Mystery Man: I would never ask nonsense questions if they weren't for research.

Me: Research.

Mystery Man: I will figure you out.

Me: I will give you a hint. I've taken a lot of classes at this school and met a lot of people. I might be the last person you'd think of.

Mystery Man: GWEN STEPHANI?!

Me: She never even attended this school!

Mystery Man: You said last person I'd guess, shed be the last person.

Me: So you're saying there's a chance I'm Michelle Obama?!

Mystery Man: Absolutely!

Me: LOL! You're funny, I like that about you.

Me: Good sense of humor.

Mystery Man: I'm only funny because you think I am.
