Side Story #2: Ease
You sat slumped at your desk resting your jaw on your propped hand. "For the millionth time, I'm not gonna be your fuckin' valentine."
"Come on! What have you got to lose?" Mineta pressed on.
"My dignity, now get the fuck out of here, you rat!" You exclaimed just as a familiar group of students entered the classroom. Upon seeing the spiky set of blonde hair the grape's eyes went wide with terror. He wasted no time in scurrying away as they approached.
Kirishima raised an eyebrow. "What was that about?"
"The little fucker wouldn't leave me alone."
"Is it the about the Valentine's Day thing?" Mina questioned.
"Yes."
"No way, he asked you to be his valentine?" Kaminari laughed aloud.
"Yes."
"Well we know he's gonna be alone on Valentine's Day. Is anyone else doing anything?" Sero said, taking a seat on the top of your desk.
You and Bakugou both made a face that caught all four's attention. They glanced at each other in confusion before looking back. "What? What is it?" Mina inquired.
"Valentine's Day sucks ass," You sighed, disgusted. "I don't need a day specifically designed to remind me I'm gonna be alone for the rest of my life."
"And it's fucking annoying seeing all those damn couple's faces. Who the fuck is ever that happy?" Bakugou scoffed in agreement.
"And then schools make it worse by making us give out pity cards to one another," You went on.
"And you can't go out 'cause it's packed everywhere!"
"And then people feel sorry for you if you don't have a date for Valentine's Day! Like no, I don't need a fucking date to enjoy myself today!"
"Exactly! That's some bullshit!!"
"I KNOW!"
While you and Bakugou were brewing in your own mutual hatred, Kirishima, Sero, Mina, and Kaminari all stared at one another. "Wow, you guys really have something against this holiday," Sero spoke with a nervous chuckle.
"It's nuisance," You said bitterly.
Bakugou sat down at desk and kicked his feet up. "Damn right."
"Maybe you guys should start your own singles holiday," Kirishima joked.
Mina gasped. "Or like an Anti-Valentine's Day!"
"Hmm, that's actually not a bad idea..." You pondered. "But that's what I do every year. I sit at home, watch a movie, pig out."
"It doesn't seem like Bakugou's doing anything though," Kaminari pointed out. "Why don't you two celebrate Anti-Valentine's Day together?"
You and Bakugou locked eyes for a moment. The blonde shrugged, turning away to mask his crumbling indifference. "It's not like I have anything better to do."
"I guess I don't either," You nodded self consciously. "Do you wanna hang out?"
"Sure, my mom's going on a stupid date with my dad that evening so you can come over then."
"Alright, I'll be there."
"Cool."
"Cool."
As soon as Aizawa stepped into the classroom, the students quickly found their seats and commenced class. However, the trio eyed one another one last time to convey the same message going through all their heads:
Did these idiots not realize they basically set up a date?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And that's the story of how you ended up on Bakugou's doorstep on Valentine's Day.
You were in a pair of jeans and a T-shirt, holding bags of snacks and drinks for whatever was to come later that night. Once you had rung the bell, you were immediately greeted by a young woman with the same fluffy hair as Bakugou.
She smiled warmly upon seeing it was you. "(y/n)! Come in, come in! Bakugou told us you were coming over!"
"I hope I'm not intruding."
"Not at all! We were just getting ready to leave."
Bakugou's house was a cozy little place. You had only been there once or twice but you more or less new the layout.
"So what are you and your husband doing tonight?" You asked, making small talk as you set your things down.
Mitsuki was fiddling with her earrings in a nearby mirror when she replied. "Oh he's taking me out to dinner and maybe going to the movie theaters afterwards."
"HEY OLD LADY, WHERE THE HELL ARE MY SHOES!?" A thunderous voice from upstairs shouted.
Mitsuki's calm demeanor instantly shifted. "WHAT DID YOU SAY, YOU BRAT!? CALL ME THAT AGAIN AND I'M BURNING YOUR ALL MIGHT POSTERS!"
"LIKE HELL YOU WILL!"
You were grinning to yourself when you heard footsteps march down the stairs. You didn't need to glance over to see who it was.
And yet you were flustered that you had.
Bakugou stood there in all his shirtless glory wearing sweatpants and a glare that could kill. You suddenly found yourself averting your gaze(but not really) from the blonde's muscular body before your cheeks could get any warmer. "I CAN'T FIND MY— wait, what the hell. You're already here?" The blonde's expression softened from rage to surprise.
"KATSUKI! YOU GET YOUR ASS IN A SHIRT THIS INSTANT! WE HAVE A GUEST!"
Bakugou's face flushed red in anger (at least that's what you thought it was). It's not like you hadn't seen him without a shirt during practice when he'd somehow burn through his clothes, however the boy was still a ripped sight to behold. Even if he was your friend and it probably wasn't a good idea to look at him like that. "YEAH WHATEVER!" Bakugou stomped back upstairs muttering curse words under his breath.
"I am so sorry! He's gotten into a habit of walking around like that," Mitsuki apologized profusely.
"It's fine, really," You reassured her, hoping your face wasn't giving away your discomposure. "I'm just glad he doesn't walk around naked."
"Oh but he does that too."
"WHAT."
Mitsuki burst into laughter. "Hahaha, I'm kidding, I'm kidding! I just wanted to see your reaction, honey!"
"You talking smack now!?" You heard Bakugou's gruff voice return as he descended the stairs now wearing a shirt. His mother was quick to slap him behind his head.
"KATSUKI, you watch your mouth, you hear!?"
"Anyway, darling, you're welcome in our home anytime you'd like! You've been a wonderful influence on this brat and we're happy that he has a friend like you," Mitsuki smiled with a wink.
Bakugou rolled his eyes. "Thanks for the sentimental crap, but when are you two leaving exactly?"
"Whenever we want, Katsuki! How about you and (y/n)? When are you two going out?" His mother retorted.
"We're not! That's the whole point!"
"What? Then what are you guys doing??"
"We were gonna stay home and watch a movie."
"WHAT? AHAHAHAHAHA." Mitsuki broke out into a fit of cackles.
Bakugou grit his teeth while he stared daggers at his mom. "THAT ISN'T FUNNY, WHY THE HELL ARE YOU LAUGHING!?"
"THAT'S YOUR PLAN? ON VALENTINE'S DAY??"
"WE'RE NOT CELEBRATING VALENTINE'S DAY, DAMN IT! WE'RE JUST HANGING OUT, YOU OLD HAG!"
"Ahaha, wow, you are truly something else, Katsuki," Mitsuki shook her head as she wiped tears out her eyes. "Whatever, do what you want. I'm going to see if your father is ready."
She walked up to another room in the house while Bakugou peered at her furiously. You sighed and touched his shoulder. "Relax, she's just messing with you."
"Yeah, and I hate it."
"Alright, drama queen, how about we start snacking? It'll get your mind off things."
"You mean you wanna starting snacking."
You gave him a toothy grin. "Yes."
"What are we watching anyways?" Bakugou asked, opening a bag of chips you had brought and tossing a few in his mouth.
"Weeeelllll, since we're in an anti-Valentine's Day mood, I thought we could watch some romantic movies and laugh at how stupid they," You explained as you rummaged through your bag and pulled out two compact disks. "So Grease or Titanic?"
"This is the best you could come up with?"
"Hey, these are classics, fuck you."
Bakugou crossed his arms and shared a long glance with both the titles in question. Finally, he gave in and snatched Titanic out of your hand. "Fuck it, let's tear this one to pieces."
"Huh, didn't think you'd choose the longer one," You said as you followed him to the dvd player in his living room.
"I've never seen it."
"WHAT! Why??"
"'Cause it's a stupid fucking premise. I already know how it ends. The boat sinks, the end."
"Yeah, but this is about the two people on the boat and how they're lives change when they meet each other 'cause they're from different worlds and stuff," You said.
The blonde gave you a bored look. "And I imagine they fall in love and overcome the tragedy together?"
"More or less."
"That sounds cliché."
"I think it's cute," You argued with a pout.
"What happened to anti-Valentine's Day mood huh?"
"I can still enjoy things and talk shit about them, you butthole."
"Whatever. Get comfortable, I'm gonna start it."
You two took a seat on the couch just as Mitsuki and Masaru came strolling down the stairs in their formal attire. "Wow, you two look great!" You complimented. They really did look good together. Despite you being sour about the idea of Valentine's Day, you still wanted people to enjoy the love they had.
"Thank you so much, (y/n)," Masaru smiled warmly.
"We'll be back later. You kids stay in the living room; I don't want any funny business going on," She warned, eyeing Bakugou. "Other than that, have fun you fucking losers! AHAHAHAHA!!!" Mitsuki howled with hysteria as she and her husband exited the house.
Once the door closed, you turned to Bakugou who had pressed his fist up to his lips, a pensive look on his face. "I fucking hate her sometimes."
"I think she just likes to tease you."
"I thought you were supposed to be on my side?"
"I'm not on anyone's side. I'm just here for the tea, fam."
Bakugou rolled his eyes and pressed play on the remote.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rose stood in front of the railing gripping the bars with trembling hands while Jack tried to sway her from undertaking her irrational decision.
"Jump, bitch!" You chortled boisterously and threw a bit of popcorn at the screen.
Bakugou watched the screen with surprise. "Oh shit, she jumps?"
"Yeah, and the rest of the movie is about how her ghost causes the collision with the ice thus sinking the boat."
He had believed you for a second but the film eventually continued and Bakugou cast a judging glance. "You fucking liar."
"But can you imagine jumping into freezing water? I'd wanna die."
"I can't believe the dude would try to go in after her."
"It's called selflessness, Sparky. Isn't that what you'd do as a hero?" You questioned.
Bakugou shrugged. "What's the sense in trying to save someone who can't be saved? You'd only be putting your own life at risk."
"You can always try, but I guess I'm as good as dead if I was ever in trouble and you were there," You joked, munching on a twizzler.
Bakugou managed to steal one of the red vines you were about to take a bite of before he answered. "You wouldn't die 'cause you're too smart to put yourself in that position. Also, you're not allowed."
"I'm not allowed?"
"Yeah, you're not gonna die. Not on my watch. I'll drag your ass out of hell if I have to."
You scoffed. "Wow, my hero."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the next scene, you two watched as Cal's abusiveness becomes evident when he viciously throws their table to the side and slaps Rose in the face.
"I'd kick his ass."
"So would I."
"Why does she put up with this shithead again?" The blond asked.
"Arranged marriage kind of thing. Her family's broke so Rose's mom is having her marry the douchebag for money."
"Funny, this movie is set in the 1920s and yet it's still pretty relavent today."
"Because of the quirk marriages?"
"Yeah, why the fuck is that even allowed? It's breeding your kids like animals," Bakugou said in disgust.
You nodded. "In some cases it's like that. In others it's like this one where one family is struggling and they need some kind of support."
"So that makes selling out your kids okay?"
"Of course not. But don't worry you won't get put into an arranged marriage. You're too much of an asshole," You teased, jabbing his stomach. "If you were though, I'll save you. I'll be the Super (y/n) to your Princess Bakugou."
"If anyone needs saving it'd be you, you brat!" Bakugou retorted, slightly annoyed. "You're the one with the low-risk quirk and the...decent looks." Although he still wore a scowl, you thought you could almost see a faint blush dusting his cheeks in the dark.
"But your quirk is powerful, and you're not bad-looking either."
"Just shut up and watch the movie!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The ship had struck the ice and the people were beginning to fill the life boats. Jack and Cal managed to convince Rose to board one despite her wishes of not leaving Jack.
"Oh shit this is actually getting intense."
"See? And you said you didn't care for the movie."
Rose eventually leapt off the life boat and back onto one of the decks on the ship where she meets Jack with a flurry of kisses and emotions.
"WHAT, why would she do that!?" Bakugou shouted.
"Because she loves him! She doesn't want to leave him. They made a promise to be together."
"But she could have lived! He could have found some way to save himself!"
You frowned. "She knows he won't be able to make it through this. She loves him so much that she's willing to die with him."
"That's so stupid! Now they're both gonna die!
"As opposed to being split apart forever? I think it's noble of her to go back on the boat."
Bakugou crossed his arms and grumbled to himself. "They're both idiots."
"Yeah well, love makes you an idiot," You shrugged.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jack and Rose have descended into the freezing waters with only a wooden board to keep them afloat. Jack makes the decision to stay in the water while Rose remains on the board.
"Aw fuck man this is sad," You said, trying to discreetly wipe away your tears. The story of the two lovers was touching but honestly the uncensored suffering of the people freezing to death was what caused your emotions to swell. Just thinking of all those real life people screaming and begging for help made your heart sink.
Your attempt to mask your face was unfruitful though. Bakugou turned to you with a concerned gaze. "You okay?"
"Yeah, yeah, why wouldn't I be?" You said as you glanced away to hide your eyes.
The blond stared at you and gave in with a sigh. You didn't know what that meant until he wrapped an arm around you and pulled you close to him. "Just cry if you need to, glow stick. I ain't lookin'."
You were no doubt shocked by his actions, but nonetheless you pressed your head against his chest with a sniffle. He was so warm.
"Would you sacrifice yourself like that to save someone?"
Bakugou watched the screen, his mind reeling with thoughts. "I don't know, they'd have to mean a lot to me for me to do that."
"Oh yeah? How come?"
"Because if I were put in a situation where I could only save one, I'd want to save someone I love."
You looked up at him with a small smile. "Aw, that's really sweet of you."
"It's the tiredness talking. Damn it, this movie's long as fuck," Bakugou cursed. He glanced down at you. Your eyes reflected the twinkling rainbow lights adorning your cheeks. He didn't know why, but he felt his heart thumping in his chest.
"Did you like the movie though?" You asked.
Bakugou felt his face warm up but he couldn't take his eyes off you. "Yeah, it was alright."
"I had fun on this Anti-Valentine's Day with you," You chuckled softly, "Maybe we should do this again next year because fuck romance right?"
Bakugou nodded, his posture leaning into you. "Yeah, fuck romance. Who needs it?"
Your gaze faltered. "Right....who needs someone you can confide in when you've got yourself?"
"Who needs a person who's willing to put up with you?" The blond replied in whisper.
"Who needs someone who'll cherish you for the rest of your life?"
"Who needs love?"
You glanced up at him and found his eyes lingering on you curiously. His usual fierce fiery red irises were warm with color capturing your stare.
"Bakugou...?" Your cheeks burned bright when you realized you two were now inches apart. For some reason, you caught yourself sneaking a glimpse at his lips.
The blond leaned down, a hunger hidden behind his gentle demeanor. "Yeah?"
Your lips parted just as Bakugou came down to meet yours. "I..."
But before they could even touch, a startling bell rang throughout the house. You and him immediately jumped apart and fixed your eyes on the door. Both your chests were pounding with fright.
"I-I'll get that." Bakugou sprang to his feet and made his way to the entrance.
Meanwhile, you were stuck on the couch holding a hand over your erratic heart. Were you about to...? With....? No, no it had to be some spur of the moment kind of thing, right? That was what had probably caused you two to react like that. There was no way you... 'liked' him like that.
Your mind thought it best to collectively blame it on the teenage hormones just as Bakugou opened the door. The first things you noticed was the set of bright yellow hair and spiky red one. On the porch stood Kirishima and Kaminari looking as adorably oblivious as ever.
"Hey dudes! How's your guys' night?" Kirishima greeted with a cheerful grin.
Bakugou furrowed his eyebrows. "What the fuck are you two doing here?"
"We figured we had nothing to do this Valentine's Day either so we decided to join you on your Anti-V-Day party," Kaminari explained.
"We came bearing gifts!" Kiri gestured to the bundles of snacks in his arms.
You leaned over to get a better look. "Is Mina with you guys?"
"No, we asked if she wanted to come but she said, and I quote, 'I'm not sad enough to be hanging out with you losers on Valentine's Day'," Kaminari answered, reading the message off his phone.
"Sero basically said the same thing."
"So you two just decided to show up!?" Bakugou yelled.
"We texted and called, man. You two didn't reply."
You looked down at your phone and saw that they indeed were telling the truth. Your device was on vibrate but you must not have felt it because you were focusing too much on Bakugou and the movie.
Whatever the case, you got up to defend the two boys from the ill-tempered blond. "Why don't you guys come inside? The more the merrier." You placed a hand on Bakugou's shoulder which earned you a questionable eyeing from him but nothing else. If anything, he simply looked annoyed.
As the other two boys settled in, Bakugou pulled you aside.
His ruby eyes seemed to look everywhere but you. "Listen, night light, about what happened..."
"I get, Bakugou, it was reactive thing. We had no control over it," You said with a small, understanding smile. "We were just in the moment. But I guess it's good we snapped back when we did right? I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable."
Bakugou nodded, although he wasn't sure that was the case. The explanation made sense but it didn't sit right with him. "I'm fine, glow stick. Maybe it was just a natural urge that came over us."
"So are we okay?"
"Yeah, we're fine."
"Great," You smiled warmly. "I'm happy we can talk about this and not make it weird."
You two didn't get to linger on the subject much before Kaminari began hollering from the couch while munching on hot cheetos. "Hey, nerds, you done talking or what? We watching Sharknado or Snakes on a Plane?"
"HEY THOSE ARE MINE! GET YOUR GRUBBY HANDS OFF OF THEM!!" You were on him in less than a second but Kaminari still fought against you. "OW! MY EYE!"
"CAREFUL YOU MOTHERFUCKERS, YOU TEAR THAT SOFA I TEAR YOUR FACE!"
"TELL HIM TO GIVE ME BACK MY CHIPS!"
"They're mine now, let go!"
"You guys can't we just enjoy a movie?" Kirishima complained, your torso hovering above him while you tried to reach the golden blond.
Bakugou ignored him and continued to pull you off the Pikachu. "YOU FUCKERS ARE HERE ONE SECOND AND IT'S ALREADY A SHITSHOW!"
"hE started it!!" You scowled.
The red haired teen sighed and rubbed his forehead. "What a great Valentine's Day this turned out to be..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You all ended up passed out on the couch while the soft hum of the movie played in the background. Kaminari was snuggled into one of the pillows dozed off like a child. Kirishima's head lay in your lap while one of your hands remained combed through his thick set of locks.
And you were lying against Bakugou's inner shoulder, his arm tucking you into him. The blond was snoozing as well; his cheek pressed atop your head. The arm he had around you brushed your fingertips together. In his sleep, his pinky curled yours gently while you all dreamt the night away.
So I counted up the votes as of last week's Sunday and the V-Day special won! This was a bit late, I know, but I got caught up with work and school, sorry ^^ I had fun writing this though and I hope you enjoyed it! I'll work hard to get the next chapter out soon.
And as a bonus, I'll give you guys a piece of this story I scrapped because in the end I didn't like how it fit, but it is prevalent to the reader in this story. Happy reading!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~BONUS~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You noticed the girls huddled around a clump of desks and decided to join them for refuge.
Upon your arrival, you greeted them with a playful grin. "Hey hoes, what's going on here?"
"Hey, bitch, we're just talkin' shit," Mina replied.
"We're talking boys!" Hagakure corrected excitedly.
"Oh yeah? Why's that?"
Jirou sighed, stuffing her pockets deeper. "They're rating their looks."
"Jirou talks as if she wasn't speaking about Kaminari just now, ribbit."
The emo turned scarlet. "HEy, shut up, I wasn't!!"
You chuckled with a short shrug. "I think he's cute...in like a dorky way."
"Oh, this is so childish. Why are we even discussing it?" Momo said, exasperated.
"Because you brought up how ripped Todoroki was at the festival," Uraraka responded.
Momo went wide eyed. "I-I was just—it was an observation!"
"Quite the observation," Mina smirked. "So the cool, silent types are your thing?"
"I never said that!"
"He was looking pretty badass at the festival though," You chimed in.
"Well, in everyone's opinion, who do you think the hottest guy in class is?" Hagakure asked curiously.
Mina furrowed her brows. "The hottest guy...huh, that's tough..."
"I think Ojirou is pretty cute!"
"Todoroki is stoic-ness is pretty attractive," Tsuyu said shamelessly.
Momo nodded as nonchalantly as she could. "He's a good-looking guy."
"Shoji's pretty cool," Jirou shrugged.
You squinted in thought. "How would kissing him work though? Would you have to kiss one of his tentacle arms??"
"Who said anything about kissing!?"
"You know who I think would secretly be good kisser? Bakugou," Mina said.
"Bakugou?" You blinked in surprise.
Uraraka seemed to agree. "Yeah, I can see that. He is rather handsome, at least when he's not threatening to blow everyone up."
"You think? I think he's kinda hot when he's mad," You admitted. Only a few seconds after did you realize what you had just said. "Oh shi—"
"OH MY GOD, (L/N), do you like him???" Mina burst out in shock.
"What!? No, that's just how I see it," You defended, trying to mask your embarrassment. "He's got that whole brooding thing going for him."
"Would you say you think he's the most attractive in the class?" Tsuyu asked innocently.
Everyone was looking at you now. "Uh...I don't know...I think Todoroki and Kirishima are pretty good-looking too."
"But who's the hottest?" Hagakure urged.
You sighed and glanced away in thought. "Uh...I guess...."
Kirishima had this jock-like aura about him. He was a muscle-head but he was also cute, sweet, funny, approachable, and definitely attractive. That fire red hair, toothy grin, and built figure certainly made him stand out.
However, Todoroki was a more intense character. He was a much somber teen than the red head but that didn't take away from his beautiful features. If anything it elevated them. Todoroki would make some of the most interesting expressions whenever he was caught off guard too. Seeing him do so made your face combust with heat sometimes. Nevertheless, his serious, penetrating gaze was enough to make anyone melt.
But Bakugou....what could you say about Bakugou?
He was a ruthless personality. Always frowning, glaring or looking bored. Even so, his sharp eyes conveyed so much all at once. He was so expressive and his behavior was the very same way. He always surprised you one way or another making you laugh at the most random times. Bakugou was also very handsome and had a build that any male would kill for. However, his downfall was the temperamental moodlets he'd get into. He could go from 0 to 100 real quick at the snap of the finger. But did this deter you? Not really. In fact, he seemed to be a lot calmer when you were around.
"I don't know," You finally said. "I guess it'd have to be....Bakugou? He's pretty handsome and overall cool to hang out with once you get to know him."
Mina nodded, smirking to herself. If only you could see the look in your eyes. It was so obvious. "Interesting..."
