A First

WARNING: If you're sensitive to strong language and bullying themes please be wary

The side-long glances and fits of giggles had gotten worse around you as the week went on. You ignored it as much as you could, but it seemed your friends were starting to pick up on it. However, you made no effort to comment.

"What's so damn funny?" Bakugou scoffed at a group of students bubbling with laughter.

"They probably have nothing better to do." You shrugged, poking at your lunch.

"Speaking of having nothing better to do! You guys up for a movie one of these days?" Kaminari grinned. "(y/n), you should totally invite your friends!"

"Why, so you can drive them off with your generic, Walmart brand pick up lines?" You retorted, earning a hoot of approval and a high-five from Kirishima. You even saw Bakugou crack a smirk.

Kaminari pouted and glared at the three of you. "You guys are assholes."

"It sounds fun." Kirishima gave his thoughts. "It'll have to be after the teachers drop all their tests on us though."

"I'll see," You said as you got up from the table.

Bakugou furrowed an eyebrow. "Where are you going?"

"Candy break. This shit's too bland."

You made your way out of the cafeteria and into the hallways. You recalled a vending machine near your class that that sold your favorite sweets, (c/n). Luckily, you still had a couple bucks in your pocket to spend.

You approached the glassed box and skimmed its rows for your delectable sin. You felt another student come up behind you just as you spotted your treat. There was only one (c/n) left.

You quickly patted your pockets for the loose change, but couldn't produce what you needed.

Just then, a loud slamming sound was brought to your attention. One of the classrooms had sprung open and a group of girls stumbled out giggling hysterically to themselves.

"Come on! We have to go!" One of them chortled, capping what looked like some kind of marker.

"Lunch is ending any minute now!"

"Let's go!"

One of the girls glanced over at you and the other student in line. "Oh shit, oh my god!" For some reason, your presence had made her double over with laughter. "We have to go now! Let's go, hurry!!"

They scampered away like a bunch of imps as soon as the rest noticed you. You frowned suspiciously and looked to see what class they had left from.

To your dismay, the doorway read '1-B'.

"You can go ahead." You let the person waiting pass as you left to see what the girls had done.

The doorway opened to reveal a classroom void of any life. However, it didn't take you long to find the evidence of those brats' break in.

At your desk, scrawlings in red and black marked the entire counter. Disugusting depictions and demeaning words were scattered all over it.

'Whore'

'Bitch'

'Skank'

'Slut'

'Social Climbing Cunt'

Ah, well that last one was creative. You didn't think they had it in them.

You sighed, not really upset by the words so much as the clean up. You didn't particularly care what other people thought, especially if you didn't know them. You swallowed back your initial anger and started working to wipe it off before the class came in.

In the event that they did come in before you finished, you decided to take the desk and hideout in the girl's bathroom before they arrived. Hopefully the paper towels there would work on whatever those girls wrote with.

You were dragging the desk out in such a hurry that you to bumped into someone. You immediately turned and hid the vandalism before they could see.

"Oh crap, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to run into you," You quickly apologized.

You recognized the student as the one with you at the vending machine. His hair was a deep shade of purple and flared up revealing his tired, dark eyes. He stared down at you with disinterest.

"What are you hiding there?" He asked, looking past you.

"Uh, nothing. Not hiding anything." You smiled nervously. You puffed up your chest in an effort to further conceal the object, but your rather short frame wasn't cutting it. The guy easily saw the defaced desk.

"What happened to that?"

You bit your lip, hands trembling. "A-ah...well... I just gotta clean this up before I get to class," You admitted, not wanting to go into specifics. "So please, if you'll excuse me..."

The guy glanced between you and the desk with a hint of uncertainty. He finally huffed softly and stepped beside the object. "Alright, well come on." He made to grab the legs, but you panicked.

"O-oh no, you don't need to! It's fine, really!"

"I'm not just gonna stand around and watch some girl cry," The guy said. "Now, come on, class starts soon."

Cry? You blinked and realized your eyes were watering. Your shaking and teary eyes must have been from the embarrassment and disheartenment of being caught with that desk.

You sighed and briskly wiped your unshed tears. "Thanks....I appreciate it."

He nodded, but his attention then drew elsewhere. There was a random student headed towards you two. Rapidly, you went to pick up the other end of the desk, however, the guy raised his hand to stop you.

Instead, he sauntered over to the passerby clamping a hand on his shoulder "Hey, nice shirt."

"Uh...thanks?" The male responded.

All of sudden, the student got a glazed look in his eyes.

"Do me a favor and clean up that desk for me. Bring it back to this class and say it was borrowed," Purple hair ordered.

The other guy didn't reply. He merely took the seat and headed down the hall without a word.

"What...?" You breathed in astonishment. "What was that?"

"Don't worry about it." The male waved you off. "Just be happy this is over with."

You, however, were still stunned. "Was that your quirk?" You inquired in awe. "That's incredible..."

"Hmm, most people don't think like you do."

"Why not? That's an impressive quirk."

The guy frowned at you. "...thanks, I guess."

You were going to thank him for everything when you saw he pulled something familiar out of his pocket. "Hey, you like (c/n), too?" You smiled. "Quite the luck you have getting the last one. Then again you probably wouldn't have had to help me if you didn't get it. I guess it just depends on how you see the situation, huh?"

You looked up to see him staring at you. "Oh, haha, sorry I was rambling." You chuckled shyly. "I'm (l/n), by the way. (l/n), (y/n)."

"Shinsou, Hitoshi," He introduced himself with a handshake.

"Well, Shinsou, it looks like I owe you one. If there's anything I can do, within reasonable circumstances of course, let me know." You beamed. "Thank you again for helping me out. I really appreciate it."

"It's no big deal." He shrugged. He removed the wrapper off the candy and then glanced at you. "You want some?"

"Hm? Oh, no thanks."

"Weren't you going to get it before?"

"I mean, I guess, but I had that other thing to deal with—" You were interrupted by Shinsou taking half of the candy and placing it in your hand.

He chortled, rolling his eyes. "Just take the piece."

"Oh, okay. Thanks," You smiled, unsure.

He huffed in amusement and waved. "I'll see you around, (l/n)," Shinsou said as he took a bite of his candy and walked off.

Huh, what a strangely sweet guy....

After that event, the school day went by pretty fast. It seemed like Itsuka and Ibara heard something from the other students in class because they tried asking you if anything was wrong. You were too embarrassed tell them your predicament so instead you reassured that you were doing great.

"I'm fine, guys. Why do you ask?" You inquired.

Itsuka smiled sheepishly. "No reason. I guess we were just concerned."

"We overheard some girls raving on about someone and it sounded like it might have been about you? We're not sure," Ibara admitted.

"Is it about you?"Itsuka asked cautiously. "You know you can tell us anything. We just want to help."

"I mean, I wouldn't know if it was about me. I wasn't there." You shrugged. "But even if it was, I don't care. Their words can't hurt me."

The girls exchanged glances. "Well, if anything happens, let us know alright?" Itsuka said. Ibara also nodded her statement.

"Of course. Don't worry about me." You smiled.

Your words may have convinced them, but they were poor in convincing you.

You wanted to believe that people's comments wouldn't get to you, but unfortunately they did sometimes. It was hard to act stoic when others were making up lies about you. Nothing pissed you off more than lies.

You were feeling so down that you had left before Bakugou could accompany you home. Of course, you received many angry texts about ditching him afterwards but you fed him some excuse and continued on your way.

You arrived to an empty house as usual. You were glad about it this time around since now you wouldn't have to put up a happy front for your mother.

You threw on some pajamas and let yourself sink into your bed. It was an easy day but somehow you still felt exhausted. Exhausted of having to be cheerful, exhausted of having to ignore bullies...probably both.

You sighed and turned on your side. You scrolled through your phone haphazardly trying to push away the gloom in the pit of your stomach. It didn't help.

Being alone also meant you were alone with your thoughts which was never a good idea. You rubbed your eyes tiredly as the stress of the day overcame you.

What were you going to do about Monoma and the other students? Was there anything you could do? You wanted to confront this problem by yourself, out of pride and out of fear of worrying your friends. This shouldn't be a big deal. You could get past this...right?

Ugh....over-thinking made your head throb. Bakugou would probably tell you to stop being stupid and smack you.

You pulled out your phone once again and carefully skimmed through it. The past texts on the screen brought a slight grin to your lips.

Sparky Sparky Boom Man: Hey brat hurry your ass up
I'm not holding your place in line forever

Freckles: Pleeeeaaasssse Baku-butt stay a little longer
Sekijirou's running class late cuz of misbehavior
And I really want that cake they're serving for lunch today!

Sparky Sparky Boom Man: There's a bunch of fuckin' extras bitching at me

Freckles: T^T

Sparky Sparky Boom Man: Fuck this I'm leaving

Freckles: noooooooo

Sparky Sparky Boom Man: Just take my cake and shut your hole

Freckles: ??? You don't want it

Sparky Sparky Boom Man: I don't like sweet shit anyway
Shut the fuck up and be happy yu fuckin glowstick

Freckles: :D

You huffed with a smile. That lil shit...Bakugou could be nice when he wanted to be. You wondered...

With a hesitant heart, you did the unthinkable and dialed his number.

It rang once or twice before a gruff voice on the other end showed up. "Hello?"

It was like you almost expected him not to answer. You were choked for words. "Haha, hey, sorry to bother you," You laughed off the initial silence. "I just wanted to call."

"Fuck, did something happen again?" He yelled.

You frowned at his assumption. "No, you butthole, I just wanted to talk."

"Huh...this is a first. Talk about what?"

"I..." You didn't know what to say honestly. You thought chatting with him would relieve your stress but now you were thinking that may not be the case.

"Is something wrong?" Bakugou inquired to your pause.

"N-no, not really. I guess school's just driving me up the wall these days. I'm sorry I've been in such a sour mood," You regrettably admitted. "Maybe that hang out day Kaminari and Kirishima suggested is a good idea. Maybe it's something everyone needs right now."

You bit your lip. Perhaps you were talking too much but the next words slipped out. "We could do something like that this weekend? I mean, if it's okay with everybody else."

You heard Bakugou sigh on the other end of the line. "Yeah, yeah, I'm sure they'd fuckin love that..."

"But listen night light, maybe that's not what you need." The hot-tempered teen caught you by surprise.

You furrowed your eyebrows. "And what is it you think I need?"

"I don't know...chilling the fuck out and breathing? Going around town isn't gonna solve your problems, if anything you'll be postponing them."

"What I'm saying is if you're stressed, just remember this shit is temporary. Whatever the fuck you're dealing with right now you'll get through it. And step back and breathe sometimes; having it constantly on your case isn't gonna solve anything either. So light up some fuckin' scented candles or something get your mind off of it," Bakugou finished.

"Wow, Bakugou I've never heard you sound so wise," You blinked in astonishment. "But some things aren't easily fixed like that. People can be cruel for as long as they want and there's not much you can do."

"What does that mean? And this isn't wise, it's fucking smart. You wanna be the best at something you gotta learn how to handle pressure," The teen scoffed.

"Ah, nothing haha. I still appreciate the advice though. Thank you, Bakugou," You smiled, though inside you had a mini heart attack for letting something personal almost slip out.

"Yeah, you'd be lost without me."

After what he said, you started thinking maybe Bakugou had also gone through similar stressful situations. Probably not the same context, but just the right amount of pressure that would spin someone into hysterics.

"Hey... if you ever need to talk to someone, I'm here," You offered warmly. Just as he had helped you, you wanted to aid him with his troubles.

The blonde was silent for a moment. "I don't have problems to deal with."

You then heard him let out a small sigh. "...but sure, glow stick, whatever you say."

This made you shake your head. How stubborn...

"Anyway, are you ready for that mock exam tomorrow?" Bakugou asked.

Your heart dropped in that second. "What!? No??? There's a mock exam tomorrow???"

"Dumb brat, did you forget?"

"Completely," You groaned. "So 1-A and 1-B are meeting up again?"

"Yeah, all the main teachers are showing up too."

"All Might?" You inquired curiously.

"Maybe," Bakugou shrugged. "Bastard always shows up late."

"Oh wow, All Might? This could be such a learning experience. Now I'm kinda excited," You gushed. While All Might wasn't your favorite, die-hard superhero, he was still a man you greatly respected. There was just something amazing about the quirk he was blessed with and the fact that he was such a kind and just person.

"I'd better go then. I should probably prep for that exam. Thanks for talking with me, Bakugou. You really helped," You said, genuinely grateful.

Bakugou let out a huff of a laugh. "Whatever, glow stick, I didn't preach you anything new. You're just shitty at the execution."

You were about to respond when he said something interesting. "And for tomorrow, I hear we're doing quirk combat....time to see what that little power of yours is. Prepare to get your ass kicked, brat."

You chuckled, a smirk curling at your lip. "We'll see about that, Bakagou."

"The fuck did you just call me!?"

You were too busy raging in a fit of laughter as the angry boi yelled at you some more over the phone.

Heeeyyy I'm not dead :D Well, not yet at least. Can't get rid of me that easily ;) Haha all jokes aside I hope you liked this chapter! This is the last chapter I had partially pre-written so from hear on out it's straight writing on my part. I will do my best to get updates out as soon as I can, but again I apologize if they take long. I really like where this story is going and I don't want to drop it.

On a side note since it's the holidays I was thinking of doing a bonus chapter for Christmas. Let me know if you'd be interested in that!

Thank you all so much reading and keeping up this story. It's a huge encouragement to see all the comments!
