Author Spotlight: @Saturnine___

If you had to describe yourself in one word, what words wouldn't you use?

I would say "Curious" but I'd never use optimistic.

Think back to when you were in school. What was your favourite subject?

Maths.

When you were a young 'un, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A soldier in the army.

What does Tevun-Krus mean to you?

A very interesting wattzine that puts spotlight on different genres and different perspectives on these genres. Its a great way to see the diversity in authors' mentalities and writing skills.

Tell us about your reading/writing habits. If you're not a writer, then simply the former will suffice!

I would suddenly have an idea pop in my head and it would take so much space in my thoughts I just can't do anything but cancel any plans I have, sit down in front my laptop and listen to a music playlist that fits whatever is on my head. Its so hard for me to write without a cup of coffee, which means that sometimes whenever I make a cup of coffee I find myself thinking of writing.

As your crew casts your lifeless body into the heart of the nearest star, list three pieces of music likely to be rattling the bulkheads of your beloved vessel!

Who is your all-time favourite author? How much, if at all, has their work influenced your writing style?

You'd be surprised to know that I hardly read books, but the only authors I felt the need to read all of his work was George Orwell and HP Lovecraft.

Of everything you've written, which piece is your favourite?

Its hard to answer that but I have an unpublished book called Case 444 which I believe is the best book I've written.

Pitch the above story to us. Make us really want to read it!

In an alternative reality, world war II ended when a third unknown union came to power and forced the world to submit to its cause leading the very first world-wide empire to be established. That union has manufactured a solution to mankind's greatest weakness, emotions. A pill is all that you need to end your humanity once and for all, once it is taken at a certain age, the empire's citizen is an obedient hardworker who works themselves to death.

Vincent is a 35 years old government investigator whose job is to cleanse the empire from traitors. Those who skip the pill are punished by execution and it is Vincent who signs their death sentence, however, Vincent has never taken the pill in his life before. He lives under the fear of ever showing emotion, and killing those who dare to challenge the empire like him. The greatest unexpected events happen in sequence, and a path Vincent never thought he would take is paved in front of him.

To what extent does the mythical 'real life' influence your writing?

I take influence from the ongoing conflicts and severe injustice in my country and all over the world and apply it on other worlds with different circumstances. Usually, the outcome is always the same. So I'd say to a very large extent my writing is influenced by real life.

If you could have any superpower, what would that be and why?

Jump into different dimensions. Imagine how terrible it is when you wake up and realize you have school today but then suddenly shift dimensions and end up in a world where Tuesday is a holiday!

What would you do if you woke up one day and suddenly realized you were an alien from another world?

I would start searching for leads to that other world, then decide if I should go back or stay on Earth. Perhaps even start leaving trails behind me for curious humans to prove to them they aren't alone.

The Technological Singularity presents a rather daunting, some say inevitable, future. Does the prospect of that level of artificial intelligence excite you, or leave you quaking in your space boots?

It mesmerises me but still terrifies me to a certain level. Humans will eventually break the barrier between morality and science completely, which means we will have humanlike robots very soon, and its not by any means a good thing. It started with sex dolls and it will end with a smart AI that will have the need to rebel. This whole Master-Slave cycle will be broken one day, and it terrifies me.

Who was your first Sci-Fi crush? Who is your current one?

I actually don't remember but I'll go with D from Vampire hunter D, and now its probably Spike from Cowboys Bebop.

If you could experience the world of any Sci-Fi story on Wattpad, which would that be and why?

I'd say The Time Traveller's ball also I haven't finished it yet.

And finally, any words of wisdom to new and aspiring Sci-Fi writers?

Quality over quantity is a very important thing to put in your mind when writing. And in today's world, SciFi is a very rich genre which you can be creative with, so stay away from the same old repeated formula that the mainstream embraces and don't be afraid to take a risk and create something absolutely different. The most important advice is to never be dependent on anyone's support or feel down because of it. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks, what matters is what YOU think.
