Closing Time
Feeling a little light in the skull after that one, eh, mothertroopers?
Still got enough brains left to read what's coming up? This is it!
November 15th - Best of 2020
We're keeping 2020's Best Of issue small and fuckin' awesome. Remember all those previous 2020 sub-genres we did this year? Let's get a brand-fuckin'-new story for every single one. Exclusive writer privilege is granted to tenured TK writers first, everybody else second. This is a tradition that comes from its ancient, humble beginnings as a TK issue of utmost secrecy. Don't ask us to write for it—we'll ask you.
TK84: Best of 2020 will feature one brand-new story from each of the following writers: jinnis, angerbda, MadMikeMarsbergen, elveloy, WilliamJJackson, JeffreyVonHauger, Arveliot, sacredlilac and Wuckster!
December 20th - A Very Merry Dystopian Christmas
The "Merry" is back, and so is the Ooorah Crew's take on Dystopian SF (with that Christmassy twist we know and love!) We haven't touched this sub-genre by itself—because loads of -Punk and non-Punk sci-fi stories happen to be dystopian—since Tevun-Krus #8. Man, that's a long time ago!
Dystopian SF is the opposite of Utopian SF. Where those are paradise, these are hellish and mean. Dystopians typically feature some form of oppressive government, but not always. The oppression can also come from the environment, as in post-apocalyptic dystopians, from the self, or from any other imaginable source.

2021 is Officially the Year of Punk!
February 7th, 2021 - International V: LovePunk
Love...Punk...? That's right, mothertroopers, we've invented another sub-genre out of our asses! Love makes the world go round, love brings people from all walks of life together, love knows no colour, no creed. Love can conquer anything.
In times like these, it's only fitting LovePunk is the theme for TK International V.
Imagine a world where love has been outlawed, and soulmates are forced to meet in secret lest they be punished. Or maybe somehow someone's created love-based technology, and the world literally runs on the power of our hearts and souls. Or maybe— This is a brand-new sub-genre. The possibilities are endless!
Like recent International Editions of Tevun-Krus, TKIEV: LovePunk accepts sub-genre-relevant stories and articles from any and all languages!
March 7th, 2021 - SnowPunk
2020 saw the sandy dunes of DesertPunk, now it's time for the icy tundra of SnowPunk. It's fairly self-explanatory. In a world of perpetual blizzards, ice, frigid temperatures and generally pretty snowy atmosphere—whether that's because of apocalyptic reasons or not—and still, somehow, civilization has survived. Technology maybe makes use of water's ability to freeze? I dunno. This is a pretty new sub-genre, too, 'troopers. Amaze and astound us.
But hey, woah, hold on. Snow doesn't have to be snow, does it? It can look like snow in a world that is below freezing, but not be H2O. Why the hell not? Write those stories, too. They sound clever.
Ursula K. Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness is set on a frigid world called Winter, with indigenous intelligent humanoids who are ambisexual in nature.
April 4th, 2021 - Post-CyberPunk
First you have CyberPunk, then CyberPunk goes through some spectacular changes in itself and becomes Post-CyberPunk! Wow!
Seriously.
Post-CyberPunk is a sort of utopian's vision of CyberPunk. Like seeing CyberPunk through the eyes of an optimist with big ideas about how to change the gritty, blood-spattered, computer-mainframe streets, and turn it into a sleek, streamlined society. There's less of an anti-corporate bent, or at least the hackers aren't always the good guys.
May 2nd, 2021 - SamuraiPunk
Who doesn't think samurai and ninjas are cool?
What would it have been like if Samurai warriors had used something akin to lightsabers? Yeah, writing in this sub-genre could well be like writing Star Wars in Feudal Japan.
The time period doesn't have to be way back, of course, nor does the technology utilised have to be anything at all to do with the weaponry the legendary warriors used... But hey, who's to say there aren't Samurai warriors wandering the streets of Tokyo, doling out whatever justice they see fit from the shadows?
It can be near-future, far-future, the past, the present. SamuraiPunk, baby.
The recent reboot trilogy of the iconic Shadow Warrior series of video games is definitely SamuraiPunk!
June 6th, 2021 - AncientPunk
From the neanderthals to the Sumerians, Babylonians, Romans, Greeks, First Nations, Aboriginals, Africans, Germanics, Inca, Toltecs, whatever—AncientPunk reimagines a culture or group and their actual technology with the scope only science fiction can provide.
Roman legionaries conquering space.
Mayan time-travel cults.
Hell, Nazis are old, too—Hitler's hologram heiling himself to Hell, which exists on Mars (because why not?).
July 4th, 2021 - LunarPunk
The opposite of SolarPunk. Where SolarPunk was a utopian's GreenPunk, a life of light and sunshine and a happy globalized world, LunarPunk delves into the darkness of night, where the only light comes from the fires we dance and sing around and the big yellow moon beaming down.
LunarPunk takes influences from pagan mysticism and witchcraft, druidism, tribalism, chaos, anarchism, satanism, the occult, etc.
If SolarPunk is the worship of "us" and what "we" can achieve, LunarPunk is the worship of "me" and what "I" can achieve.
August 1st, 2021 - MusePunk
MusePunk is another brand-new one. WattPunk could retroactively be considered a form of MusePunk married with CyberPunk.
MusePunk is art—in any of its forms: music, painting, writing, whatever else that's art, that's driven by a muse—projected into a world that uses art to fuel its entire progress.
Brutal Legend, the classic Tim Schafer video game about a roadie who dies during a show and is taken as a sacrifice to a world of heavy metal, is a perfect example.
September 5th, 2021 - QuantumPunk
QuantumPunk could be seen as the next generation after CyberPunk, BioPunk and NanoPunk. Quantum computing is the new normal, quantum theory is applied in everyday life. Maybe we have the technology to modify ourselves down to the atom—perhaps it isn't cheap! Or maybe it's not uncommon to see your quantum ghost still hanging around a place you like to go.
Multiverses are definitely a thing in QuantumPunk!
October 3rd, 2021 - BiblePunk
A sort of merger between Alt-History and Theological SF but specifically centred around Biblical and other religious stories, retooled in a science-fictional kind of way.
Noah's Ark, but our boy Noah is getting DNA samples of all the animals to convert and store digitally on his solid-state drive for later reanimation.
Moses stopping the water with a staff that utilizes powerful, advanced sound waves.
God is an alien, or a time-travelling human, or...
That kind of stuff.
November 14th, 2021 - Best of '21
Like previous years, we keep this bad bubba of an issue locked up in chains, only allowed visits from writers we specifically ask to come aboard. Each of the previous sub-genres covered throughout the year gets a brand-spankin'-new story from some of and Tevun-Krus' favourite writers.
December 12th, 2021 - A Very Merry CyberPunk Christmas
We covered Post-CyberPunk earlier, so why not delve back into CyberPunk—theme of Tevun-Krus #7, way back in 2014—and give it a Christmassy twist?
Who doesn't know what CyberPunk is? Without going into the history of it, CyberPunk is gritty, and often crude. Hackers are the heroes, whereas corporations and politicians—the establishment, the elite—are the bad guys. The Matrix has that CyberPunk edge to it, taking it to unfamiliar territory; the Deus Ex series of video games is a pretty good example; but it all started with William Gibson's Neuromancer, as well as the Blade Runner film (not so much the book, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, that was more Proto-CyberPunk).
Sound kickass? Excited for The Year of Punk!?

Here's to ten more years, 'troopers. These are some thoughts you guys shared with us:
Ooorah's been going 10 years? Jeez... (Clearly, I'd lost track...)
Not gonna' lie that's pretty fucking incredible, and even though I might not have nearly as much to do with the awesomeness that is Ooorah as I used to (which is probably a total understatement) as one of the profile's founding fathers, that it's still going so strong after so long really does give me a serious case of the proverbial warm 'n fuzzies!
So congrats, Ooorah! And to all those who sail in her, to all those who have, and to those who will, see you in another 10 years!

Congratulations to the longest running SciFi ezine on Wattpad and I'm proud to have been a contributing member of some of the early issues. Great to see things still going strong after 10 years, well done and I'm pleased to see the Science Fiction flag still flying. I shall raise a pan-galactic gargle blaster to you when I finally make it to the Restaurant at the End of the Universe. All the best, TheOrangutan (Gav)
I was so happy to discover a science fiction E-Zine in WattPad in 2017. Thank You for the diligence, dedication, and inspiration over the previous decade. (Cynk Napp)
We may have only been doing Tevun-Krus issues since the very end of 2013, but the profile started out with the almighty SmackDown, a writing contest, which is a task now carried out by Ooorah's sister profile, LayethTheSmackDown. Since its conception, Ooorah has served as a beacon for sci-fi of all sorts—from the uber-serious to the ultra-weird—and in strange, savage times like these, Ooorah is both what we deserve and what we need.
- MadMikeMarsbergen
Ooorah and its forerunner Forbidden Planet, have been a major part of my life on Wattpad for the last 7 years (at least). Their imaginative Smackdowns have inspired many of my favourite short stories, (including my own), and some of those stories have progressed into the wide world of commercial publishing.
I raise my glass to many more years of Ooorah! (Elveloy)
Ooorah helped me, like many others, grow as a writer. I met so many interesting people along the journey, and couldn't imagine Wattpad without it. Grateful to have been part of such a great group, and here's to many more journeys *clinks glasses with Elveloy*
- (Red_Harvey)
Ten years, eh? Soon this child will turn into a bratty teenager. Though I doubt Ooorah and Tevun Krus will submit to anyone's expectations. Didn't in the past, won't in the future. Since I stumbled over this amazing E-zine in the murky mists of the past, my Wattpad journey took a serious twist. Bend. Launched to a new level. Took me straight to outer space and beyond. So, let's shout ooorah and happy birthday! May the force be strong with you, always.
Jinn (jinnis)
Ten years of Ooorah, huh? Who says the good die young? When I stumbled onto Wattpad a few years back, for a while there I wandered lost and confused among the bad boys and the werewolves and the bare-chested CEOs, but then I found Ooorah, that shining beacon of sci-fi goodness, towering above it all. And I realised there was a place here for people like me. Congrats and keep up the good work.
- (Reffster)
Ten years is at least a thousand in Wattpad years. So, congratulations on being just about as ancient and prestigious as (checks notes) the compass! Seriously, long may you wave.
Ten years? Wow! I can't believe it's been that long. When I discovered Ooorah, my friend had invited me to a sci-fi punk contest which was an absolute blast. I remember it especially because it really helped me get out of my comfort zone and just write something fun and collaborative. I love you guys and what you do here! Here's to ten more years! (Lexie- Davrielle)
-
Ooorah is fun as hell. I haven't heard half of the genres that are put forward, but they make for a good challenge. The Ooorah crew is pretty fun, too. There's science, space shenanigans, and occasionally pirates. What's not to like? (MoonLoop)
Congrats on reaching ten years! That's quite an accomplishment. Thanks for introducing me to crazy new literary genres like Wattpunk and Skypunk and pretty much any other kind of punk one could imagine and thanks for inviting me to submit some stories. I've created some works that definitely would never have existed without your fun and sometimes bizarre prompts. You've forced me to pull some weird stuff out of my mind I didn't know was in there and also put some new weird stuff into it, so thanks for that as well. I don't have an alcoholic beverage handy, but I AM randomly drinking a slurpee right now, so I'll lift it to Ooorah! Long may you run. (Wuckster)

Happy tenth anniversary, Ooorah! I joined the team late in Feb '19 as the sub-genre article writer, but the crew on the mothership immediately made me feel welcome, as if I already belonged there. Mike, Jinn, Rollie, Vera, Jeffrey, Angerbda. As a non-scifi writer, I had never written nor attempted anything remotely sci-fi. I was skeptical whether I could ever do justice to Ooorah's legacy and live upto the aura surrounding the legend. Mike reassured me and the rest they say is Ooorah-history! Never looked back ever since.
Congratulations once again. Here's to Ooorahverse!
I wrote this acronym for Ooorah's 10th anniversary:
They paved their own way
Heavens destined them to stay
Endlessly across space
Ooorah finally got its space
Outstanding across the realms
Rebelling through the norms
Always persistent with their ways
Here they come again
Tenacity a forte
Expectations a naught
Never a dull moment on board
Yes, the Ooorah celebrates
Every challenge and slays
Adhering to her mother troopers
Rising with TevunKrus-ers
Single-mindedly showing the way
Happy anniversary, Ooorah!
Cheers, Nab =]

On a bright day of 20 something
Over the top of my glasses
One little article got me started
Right from the start, I found it:
A special world across the Orange Galaxy
Home away from home...
This is Ooorah! for me!
Though I joined later in the path,
The crew welcomed me in their bosom,
Giving as much as one can take;
It's just the place I like to be...
Congratulations on ten wonderful years of bringing Science Fiction to all aficionados!
Wonderful friends,
Wonderful stories.
An experience like nothing else,
The bucket at the end of the rainbow for little me...
One zine to rule them all,
One zine to find them,
One zine to bring them all and in the Orange web bind them.
(angerbda)
Ooorah is home. What more can I say? When I found Ooorah on Wattpad, I not only found my true niche on the site, I feel like I found my clan as a writer. So many great people in the community, so many laughs and mind-bending stories to read, as well as an inclusive community for snarky, overly-imaginative weirdos like me. May there be many more years to come!
(Holly_Gonzalez)
Massive congratulations to Ooorah and everyone involved in making it such an inclusive place for the entire Wattpad community! From the international E-Zine issues to the great vibes all year round, the folks behind the community have managed to build an empire - not even slightly kidding about this. Our favorite part is the recent LGBTQ+ issue for Pride Month but that's to be expected! Congratulations, Ooorah! Here's to another 10 years!

[Im still working here)
A bit of ancient Ooorah history From Rollie
The voyage of the mighty mother ship called Ooorah has been a long one. The twisted plotlines of Ooorahs travels have looped us through every conceivable nook and cranny of our collective imaginations. Throughout the voyage our readers have peered out the viewports of the mothership upon wonders so incredible that mere words can barely describe them. We carry them on a journey beyond the horizons of mere thought and conjecture. We have traveled beyond what we can see, past the forbidden planets, towards the limits of imagination. And beyond, to a place of learning we could call our own..
On all bulkheads throughout the entire length, depth and width of the Mothership are the stains of blood, sweat, tears, snot, vomit and piss of her past and present crew members. Her ancient hull is etched with the scars of our worst nightmares. The massive creation engines, at times more powerful than stars, are fueled by the very dreams of those who ride within her. It's keel was tempered with blood from the evil soulless hearts of one hundred billion vanity press publishers. The ablative armor plates that grow on its exterior surfaces are harder than the scales of any fire-breathing critter be it Dragon or lizard.
The course the mothership follows was set at the beginning of time itself by speculative fiction authors who existed before our creation formed. Their great dreams spun our existence into being back when the big bang was just a local thing. The very weave of our realities contains the pure essence of their living spirits. And we their inheritors carry forth into the future seeking the same truths they once discovered.
What those truths meant to them we can never truly know. What those revelations will mean to us we can only guess. All I can do is dream.
And dream I have.
. R.S. Nelson
Congrats on this amazing milestone! May there be a thousand more!
(CarolinaC)
I enjoyed the kick to try writing something new. Congratulations on ten years, and here's to the future!
-- VictorSerranoWriting
Has it really been 10 Years? I remember back when Angus first made a thread about Oorah! back when Wattpad was a very different place. I have to say it's been wonderful to be part of such a wholesome and fun community, especially one that's lasted so long like Oorah! Tevun Krus has. In that time I finished school/university, had several jobs, moved out of my parents and into my own flat. And not too mention how much I've changed myself.
Oorah! and the community that built around it did more for me in creating an interest in writing/reading and literature than my entire school life and left me with hobby I'll carry for life and maybe one day if i'm lucky make some money from. One of my favorite memories of all time was taking part in the second smackdown, Smackdown 2.0 where I came second to everyone's favourite sapien
Angus and all those who've worked on Ooorah! projects have done a fantastic job in fostering a community which encourages and supports each other, and open to everyone around the world. Keeping something going for 10 Years is something that needs to be applauded.
I'm afraid I've not been too active in recent years, life got in the way but I did enjoy the evenings I spent here trawling across the forums and chatting with everyone. I Still log in from time to time keeping an eye on you lot, so congratulations. And if we're lucky I'll have thought of something better to say in another 10 years.
Thank you Ooorah!
Love
The Robot
When I found Ooorah I was still a wet-behind-the-ears newb who had never dipped a toe into writing scifi. I stumbled across the third Smackdown contest and, inspired by the amazing stories I'd read in Tevun-Krus, I decided to jump in with both feet... and realised my imagination thrived among the stars. So thank you to everyone who started Ooorah and have kept it going strong all these years. I've definitely grown from reading your stories. Their high calibre has inspired me as a reader and a writer. Without Ooorah, I might still be fighting to crank out romance when space opera and Punk Fiction are among my truest loves. I look forward to many, many more years reading your great stories and contributing more of my own!
- Amanda (sacredlilac)
Ooorah! Ooorah! Ooorah! Happy 10th Anniversary to the Masters. Thank you for collecting our disheveled personalities from every weird corner of the galaxy and putting us on display. In this community, I have found my people, my peers, and my inspiration. There really is no place I'd rather be held captive for another decade. I eagerly await more chances to serve the Ooorah Army. OOORAH!
- Robyn Marie (@prose-punk)
Congratulations, Ooorah. 10-years-old, wow. You will be a teenager in no time and then how you might go off the rails! I'm looking forward to the ride. Thanks for inspiring me to write sci-fi and for welcoming me into the family.
Søvn Drake (@sleepingdraco)
So - congratulations on achieving your first decade! Time to crack open a bottle of something good and appreciate the happy times before getting back to delivering more of what you do best.
John Nedwill
Been on Wattpad since 2010, back in the days of forums, roleplays, text chat and more. I felt overwhelmed with all the books on here, but Oorah made me feel right at home with a buncha lovable bastards who loved science fiction just as much as I did. Y'all gave me the confidence to write and there are no words good enough to describe how thankful I am for this group. So, all I'll say is crack open a beer and have a good one, OORAH!
- Renoe_K
Ooorah got me writing my first Sci-Fi short stories through their Science Fiction Smackdowns. I dropped out of the running on three separate occasions (c'est la vie) but the passion and community around them kept me coming back. Congrats on making ten years! I miss seeing the Ooorah crowd in the pub. Cheers to you all.
