Snazzy September has come and we are still stumped. The pandemic shows no sign of abating, and yet we are holding onto hope and faith. We at the Ooorah, make sure to be with you, every step of the way. We only need to have courage and be kind. The storm (in this case—the virus) will definitely pass.

Believe in your dreams, for in them is the gateway to reality. As C.S. Lewis said:

"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."

In keeping with our resolution of presenting a new punk every issue, we present a genre still finding its foothold in the the more prominent punk world of Solarpunk, Biopunk, Skypunk, Dieselpunk, Steampunk, to name a few. This sub-genre isn't based in technology or redefining an old concept—it is just rooted in dreams. Without further ado, we introduce: DreamPunk.

Probably, as one of the most complex of the punk genres, makes DreamPunk the hardest to define. In simple terms, it is a subgenre that focuses on stories that entirely occur in a dream that have the power to affect reality. Mind bending events, obscure technology, psychological mastery, REM sleep, dreamscape abilities, clear dreams, different states of consciousness, false realities, surrealism and mind-altering are some of the main elements the genre exemplifies.

Some dreampunk stories take place in a dream, while others take place in reality. The characters plunge into dreams through specialized dream-imagery technology.

The beautiful thing about Dreampunk is that its creativity and enchantment are infinite.

The writer can have anyone, anywhere, doing anything. Leading us to the million-dollar question: How do you limit the possibilities, or what rules will one set in place?

Feel free to drop the answer in the comments below!

As the genre is still new and trying out its wings in the punk universe, it primarily focusses on the post-modern, dystopian fiction that concentrates on the inexplicable power of dreams and the exploration of alternate cultures.

In retrospect, Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll can be considered a perfect example of dreampunk. Not to mention, the film adaptation of Frank Baum's Wizard of Oz can also be considered for dreampunk, despite the fact that the original novel did not contain the "it was all a dream" ending.

Dreampunk can consist of any story where the imagination or psyche has power over reality. A place where a protagonist able to conjure objects or other characters into being through pure imagination would possibly be in a dreampunk story. It might also be a work that focuses more on the state-of-mind of the characters than the reality in which they live or perhaps explore components of Jungian psychology. Nevertheless, a character's perception of truth may differ from the reality itself through some sort of mental disconnect.

As promised, here are a couple Dreampunk stories on Wattpad:

Days of Blood and Roses by Fox-Trot-9

The Persistence of Memory by Vapid_Ink

That's it for now, as we have concluded this issue. I really like chatting with all of you and bid you all adieu with, "Goodbye, see you the next month!"

Stay safe and happy! ❤ Cheers, Nab =]
