Author Spotlight: @alycecaswell

If you had to describe yourself in one word, what words wouldn't you use?

motivated, calm, organised

What did you want your nickname at school to be?

Caz. All of my friends told me that you can't choose your own nickname. Joke's on them - they call me that 15 years later. ;)

When you were a young 'un, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Writer! Or a Jedi. :P

What's your favourite quote?

This changes depending on the week, but at the moment - "People are always telling you that change is a good thing. But all they're really saying is that something you didn't want to happen at all, has happened."

Tell us about your reading/writing habits. If you're not a writer, then simply the former will suffice!

As a writer, I don't plan. I am a full on pantser. My first draft is basically the outline. As a reader, I BINGE. All the bingeing.

As your crew casts your lifeless body into the heart of the nearest star, list three pieces of music likely to be rattling the bulkheads of your beloved vessel!

"I Ran (So Far Away)" - A Flock of Seagulls, "Edge of the World" - Within Temptation, "Soulbound" - Taylor Davis

Who is your all-time favourite author? How much, if at all, has their work influenced your writing style?

Douglas Adams. He doesn't influence my style so much now, but when I was a teenager I wrote the zaniest sci-fi stuff. A lot of it didn't make sense!!

Of everything you've written, which piece is your favourite?

A book I wrote about demons (I have yet to decide what to do with it).

Pitch the above story to us. Make us really want to read it!

Demons are trying to take over the world. You know you're supposed to stop them, but it turns out they may not be the bad guys after all. ;)

To what extent does the mythical 'real life' influence your writing?

Real life provides this miraculous substance called tea. I imbibe it and sometimes words happen afterwards.

If you could have any superpower, what would that be and why?

Flying! So I wouldn't get stuck in traffic jams.

What would you do if you woke up to discover you were Superman?

Shave off my moustache.

The Technological Singularity presents a rather daunting, some say inevitable, future. Does the prospect of that level of artificial intelligence excite you, or leave you quaking in your space boots?

Quaking. If we let them, the robots will take over.

Who was your first Sci-Fi crush? Who is your current one?

Scott Tracy from the first Thunderbirds show. Yes, a puppet. I was in love with a puppet. I WAS FOUR OKAY. In my defence, he WAS modelled after Sean Connery. Currently I have no crushes, sci-fi or otherwise.

If you could experience the world of any Sci-Fi story on Wattpad, which would that be and why?

The world (or just the tea house, really) in The Time Traveler's Tea House by returnto-sender

And finally, any words of wisdom to new and aspiring Sci-Fi writers?

You don't need to write hard sci-fi to consider yourself a sci-fi writer. Go wherever the muses take you.
