Tell us about your reading/writing habits. If you're not a writer, then simply the former will suffice!
My reading/writing habits are flexible but I have a few. When it comes to writing I like to get into the mood with tea, music, and clearing as many distractions as possible. I aim for 2K a day or a set amount to kick off my writing and move from there. I don't plan, but I do make skeleton plots with major climaxes.
For reading, I don't have many habits. I read when I can but I love having a warm drink with me like coffee or tea. I also tend to binge books. Give me a cozy afternoon and some tea, I'll be done in an hour or two.
As your crew casts your lifeless body into the heart of the nearest star, list three pieces of music likely to be rattling the bulkheads of your beloved vessel!
Snuff by Slipknot, Real by NF, and Dark on Me by Starset
Who is your all-time favourite author? How much, if at all, has their work influenced your writing style?
It's a toss up between Karen Traviss and Timothy Zahn. Both have had equal influence in my writing. Zahn inspired me to finish my very first FanFiction novel with his publication story, and that launched the start of my recognizing my passion for writing. Traviss inspired me to become better at writing military, to look into the details and make things feel real. She inspired me to become a better writer, and to make up hundreds of clone troopers...
Of everything you've written, which piece is your favourite?
O2, my novella from the Open Novella Contest.
Pitch the above story to us. Make us really want to read it!
The earth is dying, yet humanity survives. Pollution and radiation run rampant on the surface. The government rations food and clean air for everyone. The glass domes provide some sense of security, but they are only for the rich who can afford the astronomical price of providing precious clean air to a whole city.
Nym and her family live outside the dome when the disease breaks out. Spreading through the Minor City shelter and then to Shelter's in other cities, nothing seems capable of stopping it. People going mad and dying off like flies. There's no cure they can find. They only know one thing.
Their last precious resource is going to be the death of them.
To what extent does the mythical 'real life' influence your writing?
Reality may seem to bleed little into my writing, however, much of my writing explores the relationships, bonds, and some themes presented in the mythical 'real life'.
If you could have any superpower, what would that be and why?
If I could have any superpower, I could choose the power of manipulating probability. Through this, I could easily acquire any desire I had, simply by changing the probability, and I could just as easily change anything, all with a few simply numbers.
What would you do if you woke up to discover you were Superman?
In all honesty, I would test out my powers first, then I'd take a long leisurely flight to see the world. Perhaps stop by a few of my favorite counties. Have some tea in Britain, and be back by dinner.
The Technological Singularity presents a rather daunting, some say inevitable, future. Does the prospect of that level of artificial intelligence excite you, or leave you quaking in your space boots?
A good mixture of both. It is great material for writing, and the prospect of there someday being an AI that would match if not even surpass our own intellect leaves me in awe, yet there is a level of fear. I've seen the apocalyptic robot movies...
Who was your first Sci-Fi crush? Who is your current one?
Qui-Gon Jinn was my first. Currently, I'd have to say I don't have one, but I absolutely adore the character of Milo from Atlantis. There's too many good sci-fi characters to count.
If you could experience the world of any Sci-Fi story on Wattpad, which would that be and why?
Honestly? I'd have to say right now, the world of Six Souls. Why? It feels very expansive and I was drawn into its aesthetic very easily through the book. I feel it's somewhere I'd like to explore and get to know better. Though if I had the option, of explore so many different books sci-fi worlds. Why pick one?
And finally, any words of wisdom to new and aspiring Sci-Fi writers?
Sci-Fi may not be the most popular genre on Wattpad, but Sci-fi is a broad expanse of space yearning to be explored, discovered, and written about. There is so much Science Fiction has to offer an author. Therefore, to any Wattpad author thinking about writing Science Fiction, or working on their first Science Fiction story, don't be discouraged if your story doesn't jump to the top of the list. Don't lost hope, just keep pressing on, keep working. Someone wants to read about your universe, your world, your technological advancement. So keep writing.
