What's Hot? - An Article by @RoshelleD
A Same Effing Article?
Much like my stories, my article ideas tend to be all over the place. Upon seeing the prompt featuring Hot For Teacher, at first I was going to dive deeper into the song. We do know that it hit #56 on the Billboard Hot 100. We also know it was the last song released from the original members of the group.
Other Fun Facts: Eddie Vedder used a Gibson, Flying V guitar to record this song. Alex Van Halen also strung together four bass drums. This song is also a good example of double bass drumming. And finally, Hot For Teacher's song ending comes from "Voodoo Queen", a demo song the band used to play back in their club days.
With that done, I wanted to attempt to tie things together while also branching out a bit. So I came to a compromise of sorts. Seeing that this issue of TK is being released on August 20th and that the song everyone needs to feature in their stories was released in 1984, I thought it would be cool to feature a SciFi sort of list as well.
I couldn't quite get there so on this month in history: August 1984
Cool SciFi movies with August 1984 releases.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, directed by W.D. Richter, was one of the most viewed movies released in 1984 .
Other notable mentions: Red Dawn, Dreamscape
SciFi books:
Neuromancer by William Gibson
West of Eden by Harry Harrison
Top games:
You were probably playing Millipede or The Great Space Race. Pac Land was also released by Namco
You were playing games on Atari and Nintendo also had a couple of releases. Apple had also released Macintosh by this time.
And there you have it. I hope I was able to tie some things together despite my tendency to do the opposite.
