The Really Long Jump - A Review by @RoshelleD

Making Long Jump Fun Again

As a teenager, whenever I had a bad day I could always turn to sports to make me feel better. Back then it was the Dallas Cowboys and Red Wings hockey team. Forgive me for being young and dumb, but these days my tastes and sports I follow have changed and expanded.

So this week, after a particularly rough day at work, I eagerly looked forward to giving myself an escape by reading an awesome sports story.

The Really Long Jump by Reffster fit the bill. I ran track in high school. Not only did it liven up what I always considered a pretty boring event out on the field, but it also made me laugh. Something else I needed.

The Really Long jump is written with a rather creative format which puts you right in the action. The setup of the jump was carefully thought out too. I liked the message at the end as well. What I enjoyed the most was the fact that this was based on a prompt. As a person who goes through periods where I lack the inspiration and time to write, I rely on prompts to help me out and like the way Reffster took on this particular subject.

Sports, humor and all around great writing worked so well together that this story won ScienceFiction's Proximalympics challenge. It's also going to be performed as a short play at the Paragon Play Festival in Chicago this November. I for one wish I could get there because seeing it will be as much fun as reading it.
