Spotlight Author: @Emmalee_Sky
So... Who the hell are you? Give us five random - though of course, nothing is truly random - facts about yourself.
Hi. I'm Sophia, but on here I go by, Emmalee Sky. An old pen name, but I keep it for sentimental purposes. For now, I'm exploring my options in the new year, trying to find the right fit. Haven't found my spot just yet.
Five facts? Hmm, let's see. I'm a Scorpio, but I feel like I don't really fit the things they all say. I've got a weird aversion to bacon, maybe it's because my mom's allergic to pork, but we're just not friends. The Lion King is my all-time favorite movie. I know, but it can't be helped. I used to watch it every day and eat a bowl of Mac & Cheese. Ah, the good ol' days. My first car was actually a truck, the same age as me (20+) that belonged to my late uncle. It went through so much and lasted until I got another car. I called him Grandpa, and he was my little black truck. And anime/manga takes up too much of my time. Way too much. It consumes my life. Sorry not sorry. Truth.
What did you want your schoolyard nickname to be?
Sophie, the Dodgeball Queen... So what? I wanted to dominate in the game. Fight me ;p
When you were a young padawan, what did you want to be when you grew up?
By the time I was twelve, I wanted to be a writer, but before that, I wanted to be a pro soccer player. For a while, a teacher. Even a dentist, but then I learned what I'd need to get there, and that idea was goooooone. But mostly, I wanted to be a witch. Yeah, totally. Because magic and awesomeness and balance.
Other than writing and/or reading, what hobbies do you have?
I specialize in binge watching. Also, I've recently taken a step into the worlds of cooking, baking, and even working with pallet wood. That's been fun, painting and creating in that way. Something I never thought I'd give a shot, but it's been great.

Who is your all-time favourite author? Why is that?
Singular? Geez. There are just too many. J.K. Rowling, Terry Goodkind, Anne Rice, Anne Bishop, Neil Gaiman, Diana Wynne Jones, Kristin Cashore, Kelley Armstrong, Karen Marie Moning. Like I said, too many... Just a mix that absorbs me, fascinates me, inspires me. Each weaving stories and ideas together that blow my mind.
Of everything you have written, what is your favourite?
I'd have to say my favorite is book one in my Canal Investigation Chronicles, Dark Soul. It's currently going through revisions, since it was my NaNoWriMo project from '15. A fun story about a witch with two souls that works on finding kidnapped supes while dealing with the other soul inside of her. The chronicles will bring together different species of supernatural beings and abilities and center on Canal Investigations in Naples, Florida. But my favorite part is writing in this city. Since moving to Naples a little over a year ago, it's been great to have my characters, with me, discover it. Such a change of pace, but I love it so far.
...and what is your fans' favourite?
My fans' favorite seems to be my Harry Potter fanfiction, Bad. But considering I originally started on Wattpad with my fanfiction, it makes sense. It's nice to know people enjoy my writing and story ideas either way.
Do you use real life experiences to influence your writing?
Yes, whether I want to or not, it seeps into my writing. It gives more flavor to the writing, a deeper understanding of the characters. Makes it juicer. It can also be therapeutic, which is also good. Won't tell you which parts, though ;)
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I'm torn between being a healer, a waterbender (hells yeaaah, Water Tribe!), and being about to manipulate the dark. I think each of them has its own pros. Helping others, manipulating water, and c'mon, I'm totally down to travel in the shadows... but of course, the cons are pretty intense too. A transporter would be cool too. I'd never be late, and that would be such a big help.
Is there a particular moment in history that you would change if you could, regardless of the consequences?
Watching Doctor Who or Timeless sticks the idea that time shouldn't really be meddled with, one more so than the other. I also figure most of the times I'd change are fixed points... and the world would combust or some terrible thing...
The Technological Singularity presents a rather daunting, some say inevitable, future. Does the prospect of that level of Artificial Intelligence excite you, or make you quake in your boots?
I have to say it's a combination. It excites me thinking of what we'll discover and create with Artificial Intelligence, but I've seen and read about AI takeovers to know how it'll end badly. So, undecided, I think. Or applaud them, but when there's an AI in each house, in everything, I'll take a nice trip far, far away from civilization.
The Earth is, at some point, gonna' die. There's nothing we can do about it, certainly not realistically and definitely not with our current technological level. Of all the things that could possibly destroy our homeworld though, which do you think is the most likely and why?
Hate will lead to fear, which will make the world go boom. A very, very, very big boom.
Myths and Legends have been around since forever and will most likely continue to grow and develop until we, the human race, are nothing more than a memory but of all such things you have read, what is your favourite 'modern,' interpretation of a particular tale of old?
To be honest, the first modern interpretation of myths that came to mind were about Greek and Roman Gods, vampires, werewolves, even witches, but my favorite, though it's been way too many years since I actually read it, is The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Her retelling really kicked up my interest in Arthurian legends and stories of magic, honor, love, and betrayal... all the good stuff.
Who was your first Sci-Fi crush..? Who is your current one?
My first, I think, was either Marty McFly or Han Solo. Right now, I'm stuck between River Song, the Doctor, Princess (General) Leia, and Dana Scully. Hell, there's just toooooo many.
Fan Fiction is a little bit like Marmite, you either love it or you hate it. On which end of that scale do you sit?
Ah. I love it. I got my start on Wattpad with fanfiction. I've been reading it since I was a kiddie. Though if the writing's off or terrible, I cut out early. I'm kind of a tough critic nowadays.
You're a low-ranked crewman on an intergalactic cruiser. It pays well enough but it's not the most exciting job in the 'Verse. Drinking one night whilst on shore leave you find yourself deep in conversation with the leader of a band of space pirates. What do you do next?
Buy more drinks then jump right on that. Do something crazy. Do something reckless. Become part of the crew. Never look back.
Now this one might prove to be a bit of a shout-out to a fellow Wattpadder, but that's no bad thing if you ask me! If you could experience the world of any science fiction book on Wattpad, first hand, which world would that be and why?
I'm still venturing through the science fiction section, but to be fair, I'm trying to reacquaint myself with reading on Wattpad again. I've been so MIA lately. It's sad. My library and reading lists are filling up, but I haven't been reading them! Yikes. I need to get on that.
And finally, any words of wisdom for new and aspiring writers?
Write for you. Mostly because not everyone is going to enjoy it or feel it, but if you do what makes you happy, take your story where you feel it should go, that's the greatest. Then write for your fans, for the people who are inspired by your works. Also, get idea to paper or screen. Get it out there. Don't give up. Try to write every day, a sentence, a paragraph, a page. Read a lot. Learn different styles. Explore different genres. It'll help you grow. And don't be afraid to fail. Understand that sometimes things don't work out, but that's okay. Don't give up. Don't quit. You're awesome, and there's people out there who will think the same XD
