There are certain issues that we here at FP are sure they will go big: 

Space Opera. 
Apocalyptic SciFi. 
Time Travel. 

Wait. Time travel? That's next month!

There are also a few that we are quite aware that all entries will most likely be written by the faithful few. Like Decopunk (poor decopunk). 

Still, I think we all think we have favorites. If there's a scifi/fantasy book sitting next to one of the random scifi punks, I will most likely gravitate towards the former. 

Why? Because it's familiar. It's somethings we can count on, and have trusted in the past. And--dare I say it-- it's easy. 

Not that writing is ever "easy", mind you, but when you are faced with the option to write something that you have some familiarity with versus none--something that if you tackle, you'll have to do some reasearch on, step out on a limb, and approach with a well-here-goes-nothing attitude, the second sounds a bit more scary. 

Mike in his interview and Vera in her article summed it up nicely when they both made admissions to really having no grasp of this obscure little subgenre before being approached this month to make a contribution. 

But, man-- did you read this isue? Obscure little subgenre it might be, but these stories and such pack a little punch. My hope is that as we tackle these subgenres--like TeslaPunk-- that it would give us courage to step into the seemingly unexpected, and blaze our own trail, itf you will. Who knows? You might just find something great.
