Nablai's Nebula
September's arrived and just see how fast time has flied. Seems like yesterday we were celebrating our 100th issue and now, we are on our fourth one. I guess, time isn't what it was before. With technology advancing day-by-day, time has learned to fly faster too. And we adapt to going and growing with the flow. Sounds amazing, isn't it? 😄
This month I'm going to talk about SoulPunk. An absolutely interesting concept. What made it more fascinating was the relation between SoulPunk and science.

SoulPunk is one of the multiple sub-genres and is one of neo ones constantly trending and shaping the science fiction punk ever since it came into being.
The primary focus of this sub-genre is usually by a critical commentary on how humanity and this case, the soul has evolved at the quantum level of what makes it really human. It teaches us how culture and technology are juxtaposed against the never-ending evolution of human endeavours to create better lives for themselves and humankind at large. There's a lot of conflict in this line of work as most technological developments come at the cost of lives--human or otherwise. The uncertainty in SoulPunk is challenging, which makes it a more exciting sub-genre.
Generally speaking in SoulPunk, the main emphasis of souls reaped at death helps us understand the survival of souls after death. It also touches upon the endless possibilities of survival of the spirit, communicating with cyber-technology as the souls attempt to inhabit a new body, bringing a new dimension to immortality. Eternal life or rather ethereal life just got a new meaning with this sub-genre.
Over the years, SoulPunk has repeatedly tried to explore the reasonings behind what it means for some to truly possess a soul, along with the dangers of harvesting souls just to remain alive forever. Attempts to analyse authentic human emotions as helpless circumstances, forces them to part with their soul, their identity.
Examining the manipulative society running parallel to the comforts of such a future, SoulPunk portrays a stark reality of inhumane dehumanization of ethical judgement and the uncontrolled progress of scientific technology with a loss of moral values and happiness. Fear will foremost as well a desire to annihilate and dominate for selfish gains.
Through it all, humanity remains and retains its essence. Even if it's a teeny-weeny, nano-quantum bit. In the face of invasions from aliens, zombies, vampires, other realms or anything else, the sense of Soul stays embedded in our ethereal consciousness.
The impact of cybernetics on the SoulPunk is much more than we could have imagined.
I have only two recommendations for you this time. Have a look:
1. Keeper of the Sleeping Minds by jinnis
2. The Risen Series by bloodsword
No Soul Punk article can be complete without the mention of a musical legend. For those of you who guessed it right, yes, I'm talking about the great Patrick Stump. I figured it'd be unfair to the fans of Patrick Stump if I ended this article without mentioning his famous album- Soul Punk.
Patrick Stump is an American musician and his first solo album Soul Punk released on October 18, 2011.
Patrick Stump was the lead lead vocalist, guitarist and composer of Fall Out Boy before the band went into an indefinite hiatus at the end of 2009. The album featured a bonus remix track with guest vocals from rapper Lupe Fiasco, and had Stump writing all the lyrics, playing all the musical instruments and handling the production. There were a medley of genres comprising of electropop, R&B, Soul, synthpop, funk and dance-punk, incorporated in Soul Punk.
Stump basically described his album as "Soul Punk is less a cohesive narrative as one piece and more individual pieces that dissect a few themes. The album as a whole deals with greed and paranoia and how the two influence each other. The record also deals a bit with innocence and death."

Soul Punk taught us it's better to follow your instincts when something stimulates you. Not to deny your heart on something that consumes you night and day. It's about being truly you and not listen to the naysayers. To just do it and prove them wrong. Else you might have regrets for a lifetime. Better face failure than have regrets.
We have officially come to the end of another amazing journey where we traversed contrasting definitions of the same sub-genre. It's been a real pleasure being with you. This is me, saying goodbye and take care ❤️
Cheers, Nab =]
