Doubt
"Mark!" Amy screamed as she felt her hand ripped out of his grasp, causing her to panic. She couldn't think straight with the smoke clouding her mind.
The smoke then thankfully began to dissipate as if it had read Amy's mind, allowing her to see Signe, Marzia, and Felix running towards her.
"Dark, Jack, and Anti are missing." Felix panted once he reached her.
"Mark's gone too." Amy swallowed hard.
"Are you okay? Where's Jack?" Murphy ran up to Signe, grabbing her gently by the shoulders and examining her for any obvious signs of injury, his eyes shining with concern.
"I-I'm fine, but I can't find Sean." She stuttered as tears welled up in her eyes.
"Are you sure? You checked everywhere?" Murphy squeezed Signe's shoulders tighter. For the first time since Signe met him, he looked scared.
"I checked his room and he wasn't there." Marzia interjected.
"I tried finding a security guard, but they all were busy with something else I guess." Felix frowned.
"Oh no, nothing is more important than my team...I can't fail again." Murphy added the last part in a whisper before he ran off to find a security guard with the others in tow.
On the way, they ran into Smith and Taylor, both seeming weary and panicked.
"Thank God you two are alright." Taylor sighed in relief, surprising Marzia and Felix when he pulled them both into a tight hug.
"Where's Mark?" Smith looked behind Amy as if expecting him to show up behind her at any moment.
"I don't know." Amy shook her head, biting her lip to keep from crying.
"We're trying to find a security guard to alert them of the problem." Murphy chimed in.
"It turns out they've been hacked." Taylor informed them quietly as if worried someone was eavesdropping on them.
"Who? Was it a group?" Amy pressed.
"I don't know, the only clues anyone has is that the monitors that show what the camera see are black with a white mask on it that keeps glitching on and off." Taylor stated.
None of them knew what that meant.
"Do you think they were all kidnapped?" Amy wondered aloud.
"What if Dark and Anti kidnapped them? You know how badly they treated Mark and Jack before, what if they were being nice to them just to get them to lower their guard and get closer to them to do this?" Signe whispered quickly, her eyes wild.
Amy opened her mouth to defend them, then promptly closed her mouth, realizing she couldn't.
Signe was right.
"I need to go." Murphy hastily excused himself, his usually humorous expression clouded with guilt, worry, and sadness as he practically jogged back to the parking lot, his gaze fixated on the floor as he pushed through the crowd without apologizing whenever he bumped into anyone.
"You four should go back to the hotel as well, but stick together just in case." Smith advised with a sigh.
Amy nodded and walked with Felix, Marzia, and Amy outside to have a taxi take them back to the hotel since they couldn't drive Dark's car without the keys. Instead his coach, Mr. Schenk, took it back to the hotel since he found the keys in his waiting room in the rink.
Instead of being worried about his missing team, he seemed...angry, like it was their fault they disappeared. He had muttered something about a cult under his breath before he had driven the car away.
"Are we just supposed to wait until someone figures out what happened to Mark, Dark, Jack, and Anti?" Signe grumbled in annoyance as they walked over to the side of the street to hail a cab. People gave them strange looks when they passed by since they were still dressed in their competition gear.
After about five minutes, a cab finally pulled over beside them and took them back to the hotel. The ride was silent, tension thick and tangible in the air like the cloud of black smoke that had filled the rink.
"I'm worried about Murphy, I'm going to go look for him." Signe stated once they entered the hotel after paying the driver. She had tried calling and texting him earlier before they got into the cab to make sure he was alright, but he hadn't responded.
"We'll all be in my room-"
"What, so you can protect us?" Amy scowled bitterly.
"Taylor told us to stay together." Felix frowned at Amy's sudden change in mood.
"You don't know what we're up against, I'm not going to watch my friends be taken away!" Amy protested fiercely.
"Amy-"
"Forget it, I'm going to my room." Amy muttered as she stormed off, leaving a confused Felix, Marzia, and Signe in her wake.
"I'll talk to her." Marzia assured Signe as she rushed off after her friend.
"Uh...I don't know how to handle girl problems, so...I'll be in my room I guess if anyone needs me." Felix awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck before quickly leaving.
Signe already had an idea of where Murphy was, so she stepped outside and got into the car her and Sean had rented before driving off, hoping Murphy was where she thought he was.
As soon as she walked into the Irish Pub she had visited when she had arrived, a flood of memories washed over her.
This was where she had first met Dark and Anti. It was also the place where she got involved in her first fight, which resulted in her getting kicked out.
It took awhile before she spotted Murphy's form slumped over the counter, shot glass half filled with a dark brown brew in hand as he gazed blankly at the tv showing the news of what happened at the competition.
"Top o' the morning to ye laddie." Signe took a seat on the barstool next to Murphy, signaling for the bartender to bring her a water.
"Bottom o' the evening to ye lassie." Murphy attempted a smirk, which ended up looking more like a grimace.
"You don't have to blame yourself for what happened." Signe blurted in a rush.
Murphy chuckled in reply, but it sounded cold and mirthless.
"I should've known." Murphy shook his head and tipped his head back slightly to down the rest of the strong smelling brew in his shot glass, setting it back down on the bar with a bang that alerted the bartender that he wanted another drink.
"How could you have known?" Signe frowned, taking a sip of her water once it arrived.
"Dark and Anti...they didn't have the best life before they moved. I don't know the details, but whatever they did...it wasn't good." Murphy nodded in appreciation as the bartender refilled his glass.
"You think Dark and Anti took Mark and Jack?" Signe asked incredulously.
"I don't know what to think anymore..." Murphy sighed.
"I'm the worst coach ever, I failed my last team, and I failed you two as well." Murphy's free hand curled into a fist at his side, anger directed towards himself burning in his eyes as he glared at the tv as if staring hard at it enough would change what happened. Even though she knew he wasn't mad at her, Signe felt afraid.
"You haven't failed Sean and me, if anything you've saved us. Once YouTube stopped paying YouTubers, we had no idea what we were going to do. That was when your card arrived and offered us this opportunity." Signe smiled at the memory.
"I helped you? Feels like it's been the other way around." Murphy smirked, this time looking more like his usual self.
"I can't thank you enough for what you've done for us, even now." Signe took Murphy's hand that was reaching for his glass in hers.
His gaze met hers briefly before he looked at his large hand held in hers.
"Your hands are small." He remarked with an amused grin, causing her to grin back. Now he was acting more like himself.
"Need a ride home?" Signe left some money on the bar to pay for however many drinks Murphy had and her water.
He nodded, following her towards the door until he accidentally veered off course and smacked into the wall, blinking in surprise as he pinched the bridge of his nose with a wince of pain.
"I'm not as think as you drunk I am." Murphy assured Signe, his words slurred. Signe rolled her eyes and walked back towards him, leading him by the arm to her car.
"How many drinks did you have?" Signe asked as she helped him sit in the passenger seat.
"Lost count once I hit the double digits." He shrugged nonchalantly, the move sluggish as he grinned again.
Signe couldn't help but roll her eyes again as she drove back to the hotel, her drunk coach singing random Irish songs she had never heard of at the top of his lungs. She was pretty sure half of them were made up.
"C'mon, lets get you to your room." Signe allowed Murphy to sling his arm around her shoulder and help him walk through the door without running into anything.
"Don't start drinking more from your minibar once I leave." Signe ordered him as he opened the door to his room.
"Yes ma." Murphy replied sarcastically without glancing back at her as he allowed the door to slam shut behind him.
Signe stopped by Amy's room next, hearing the tv blare from inside. She considered knocking on the door, then decided against it after a moment. She wasn't sure if she was still mad or not.
Feeling tired, Signe trudged back to her room and flopped down face first on her bed. She removed her shoes before quickly falling asleep still dressed in her competition attire.
