19 - My Way of Rebelling

I wake up, not knowing where I am.

Why is it all dark? That's right... I fell. How long ago was that?

I move my hands around, to feel for the syringe and the bottles. I find them and they seem to be fine.

I conclude that a lot of time must have passed, as I want to eat more than I did before falling.

The fact that I want to eat doesn't matter. What matters more is getting out of here!

I have no idea how I will get out. I could try re-tracing my steps, but I turned down to a different hallway at least 3 times. I don't know where I would have to turn.

I shouldn't have done this! Hopefully I can get out.

Holding the syringe and bottles, I start walking again. I know that there has to be a way out.

I eventually hit a wall. Then, I hear a noise of something opening and the wall in front of me moving away.

I continue to walk, and the wall goes back.

I turn around, but the wall does not open up again. So I'm stuck here? I'll find some way out. You can't keep me here!

Turning back around to continue walking, I see light.

"Knew that I would see light eventually. If your plan is to keep me in here, it will not work! Seems like you tried to lure me in here with that light." I say to myself.

I don't know who you is, but I think it is this entire place. It's pretty pathetic that I don't know.

I run over to the light. It turns out to just be a light on the ceiling, but that definitely is something! I can finally see!

Looking around, I seem to be in an area that looks just like the area with all of the rooms that is next to the lounge. Why is it all dark?

I remember something.

"Are we in a different part of the building?" I ask once we arrive.

"Yes."

"Will I see anything new?"

"No, all the parts are pretty much the same."

"Oh."

"Each part has different people."

"Really?"

"Yes."

I must be in a different part of the building. Why isn't anyone else here? Maybe they are all in their rooms.

I open a door, and it is dark. There is no one inside. I go from door to door, looking for a room with someone in it. I skip a door or two before going to the next one. Looking in every single room would take too long.

As I walk, it starts to get darker but I eventually pass by another light that is flickering.

Why is that light flickering? I never knew that lights could flicker.... Wait. That's just like the game! In the game I played with my friend, the light could flicker. I knew it had to be based off of something.

I continue to walk, and I realize that I am tired and hungry. I run back to the flickering light.

I put the syringe and bottles on the ground. I sit down on the ground, looking at the names of the bottles. One of them says "food" so I put it into the syringe. I hope I did it right, but it seemed pretty obvious.

I then take the syringe and push it down into me as directed on the syringe in small pictures.

I already am starting to feel less hungry... I wish there was one for sleeping as well.

Since I am really tired, I go into a room right next to the flickering light. I feel safer sleeping near the light, even if it is flickering.

I fall asleep in a bed, wondering if I will ever get out of here.

"Join us!" a boy says to me.

"What... is us?" I ask.

"Join the rebels!"

"The rebels?"

"Yeah! You have to join!"

"Do I have to?" I ask.

He gets close to me and whispers into my ear, "Yes... You have to..."

"Why? I don't want to!"

He starts to laugh.

"Very well then. Get in this," he says pointing to a machine.

"Do I have to?"

"Yes, you do."

I reluctantly get in.

He starts laughing and I can hear him pushing a button.

"I will not do what you say!" I yell.

"Oh yes, you will..."

"No!" I yell.

"You will be under my grasp soon enough..."

I struggle in the machine, and then all I see is blackness.

I... I can't! No! They can't control me!

Scientists start to come all around me.

"Noooo!!!!" I yell.

I wake up, breathing heavily. What was that? What happened? Someone wanted me to join the rebels... and then put me in a machine. Then scientists were all around me... I seemed different, I don't know why. What happened? I still don't understand... I went to sleep... All of that happened, and then I woke up in my bed. Unless... it never happened. Unless I imagined it. That has to be it!

I get up, and I decide that I should find something to eat. I think about leaving the syringe and bottles in here, but it wouldn't be safe.

-

Walking out, I see the light flickering just as it was. That flickering light really creeps me out...

I continue walking, until I walk into a dark lounge. I don't remember it looking this way. Then again, this place is different from where I usually am. Although the scientist told me that all the areas looked pretty much the same. I guess having no lights isn't that much of a change? This place does seem abandoned, so maybe it's not in use.

I run over to one of the transporters and I try to get in but I will not open. I then walk around the lounge in the dark, looking for a way out.

I don't see a way out. Am I stuck in here forever? I'll find a way out eventually... right?

I eventually find a hallway I never noticed before. It is in a spot I would have never looked in.

I walk down the hallway, which seems to be endless at first but soon enough I see light. I think about running, but I continue to walk as I am holding the syringe and bottles.

When I reach the light, I find that I am outside of the Mess Hall. I attempt to open the doors, but they do not open.

"There is food in there... I have to get in," I say to myself.

I remember something.

"What's the job ranking again?" I remember hearing scientist 112 saying while I was in testing.

"Watcher, cleaner, protector, mess hall worker, scientist, area boss, official, and there are the people who run the place," I remember hearing scientist 136 replying.

"Oh right. It just slipped my mind."

"That's alright," I remember hearing scientist 136 say.

I stand there, thinking. It seems like the mess hall workers make the food... I assume there would have to be mess hall workers for there to be food...

I put the syringe and bottles down and I start pushing at the door hard. I eventually manage to get one of the doors open, but I don't know how. I pick the syringe and bottles back up and I walk in.

It is dark in here. It is just like when I would go into the mess hall with the scientist, but dark. It is just like when I would go to the mess hall because there was an announcement that told me to, but dark and empty. Why? Why is it all dark? Why did I end up in this place? I'm all alone now! I can start to feel the wet come down my cheeks, but I wipe them away.

I look around for food, but at first I see none. I find a door. I guess I noticed it in the other mess halls I have been to, but I've never went in. It just seems like a door you're not supposed to enter.

I take a deep breath. Here I go. I push open the door, half-expecting to find a room full of food but I find a hallway. I'm sick of hallways by now. Why can't it be something useful, such as food?!

I walk down the hallway, in hope that I will find food. It turns out to be a very short hallway with a light in the middle, and at the end I find a room that does have food. It doesn't have much, but at least there is food. I then start to eat some of the food, as I am very hungry.

After I am finished eating, I look around the room. I notice that there are a lot of machines in here and there is a lot of countertops and cabinets. The machines look like they are for making the food. I don't know why. It could make sense though. How else would they make the food? Maybe they use the cabinets to store the food... and the countertops to... to... I don't know! Maybe something that has to do with the food. That's my guess.

I then walk out of the room, and I go back into the mess hall. Once I reach the mess hall, I realize that I don't have the syringe and bottles. Ugh! Where did I put them?! I look around the mess hall, the room with food, and the hallway between the two but I don't see it.

Maybe I left it outside the mess hall. Like in the room or the lounge. Hopefully they are in the lounge, as the thought of leaving it in the room I slept in is scary. Even though I went into a room near the flickering light, it still would take a while to find them.

I leave the mess hall, and I see the syringe and bottles right outside.

Phew! I found them! I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find them!

I pick the syringe and bottles up, and I walk back to the lounge. While walking back, I start to wonder how I will get out. How will I get out of here? No one is going to just come and save me. I'm going to have to save myself. When and if I get out, what will I do about the scientists and my friends? They will be wondering where I went. Unless there is a bottle that will make things seem like I never left... I haven't looked at the names of all of the bottles, so I hope there is one like that.

Once I reach the lounge, I sit down in one of the chairs. I look around, realizing how big the lounge actually is. There was always a bunch of people in the lounge, so I never noticed how big it actually was. I guess it's nice to know that it is bigger than I thought.

I sit in the chair, wondering what I should do next. I can't just magically get out of here, I have to come up with some sort of plan. Maybe I should come up with my plan... that sounds like a good idea. At least I will be doing something.

I can't come up with a plan, so I decide to just sit there. I then remember something.

"You will have a schedule now. Announcements will be made when you have to go somewhere," I remember the scientist saying.

"How will I know that I have to go there?" I had replied.

"The announcement will say something like 'everyone please report to the lounge for lounge time.' It could also say that someone has to go somewhere. If you hear 9536 being called, then make sure to listen for where to go because that's you."

"9536 is me?"

"Yes. It is used to tell you where to go. It will change soon."

"Alright."

"I will be leaving. It will probably change tomorrow."

"Alright."

I sit there in shock. I'm... 9536? No. That can't be right! I'm 10652!

I remember something else.

"What is your number?" a protector had asked me.

"9536," I had replied.

They had opened the door to testing for me.

"Follow me," the scientist had said.

I had followed her to a room.

I then remember something else. Something that must have happened... after I forgot my number and was told my number was 10652? This is all confusing.

"What is your number?" a protector had asked me.

"Number?" I had asked.

"Yes, your number. I can't let you in if you don't tell me."

"What is my number?"

"What is your number?" the man had asked me for a second time.

"I don't know what my number is. I was told to go to testing."

"Then I'm afraid I can't let you in."

"I was told to go to testing."

"Go back to where you came from, little one."

I sit there, realizing something. It seems I did forget my number...

I remember something else.

"There was a man out there," I had told the scientist.

"I know," she had replied.

"He wouldn't let me in."

"Really? What happened?"

"He asked me for my number. I said I don't know. He wouldn't let me in."

"I'll make sure it doesn't happen again."

"How did I get in last time?"

"I was... waiting outside the door to testing. Remember?"

"No."

"You don't?"

"No."

"I see. That's alright, you forgot.

"I forgot?"

"Yes. You don't remember."

"Oh."

I realize that the scientist must have lied to me. She lied to me... She lied to me...

I remember one more thing.

"Your number is 10652. You should listen to the announcements, because your number might be called," the scientist had said to me.

"And what happens if I hear my number on an announcement?" I had asked.

"You go to where you are told to go."

"I think I understand."

I sit there in disbelief. She lied to me. She lied to me. When I heard the scientist and scientist 112 talking about how they hated the test subjects, I guess I didn't really believe it. Now I'm forced to do so... It seems the scientists do hate me, as they lied to me. I want to just get rid of them all! I... I... I start to feel the wet come down my face, but I quickly wipe it away. I guess all I can do is pretend like nothing is wrong once I get back. I can't do anything... I can't do anything... The wet continues to come down.

No! I can do something! I just have to do it with no one knowing. That is the way... I will rebel!
