Chapter 7

A/N: Sorry this took such a long time to update, I've had a lot of school stuff to catch up on, but now I'm on spring break! I have all week to update stories and stuff like that, so stay tuned!

"Keefe, where are we?" Tess asked. She was still holding his hand, but now she was hanging on for dear life. This place was dark, which she usually liked, but she didn't know where they were. She knew about Keefe's history with the Neverseen and his mom, so this scared her out of her mind. It was like she was in a horror movie, instead of just watching one.

"I don't know. The crystal was supposed to take us back to Atlantis. I don't know what happened" he said.

"Did you take the wrong crystal? Use a deformed type of light? she asked. She was starting to get an anxiety attack.

"It definitely wasn't the light. I've never had a problem with leaping out of Hantero. And I quadruple checked that I grabbed the right crystal. I don't know what went wrong!" he said. Tess could tell he was really freaking out as well, and she squeezed his hand tighter.

"Okay, well maybe we should look around a bit? See if there's anything else here?" Tess suggested. Keefe nodded, and they started walking forward. There wasn't any light yet, but there also wasn't any sign of life at all. Tess knew what she had to do in order to get back safely, but she wasn't going to do that. Not yet. If they didn't find anything in the next ten minutes then she might do it, but she wanted to make sure there really wasn't anything else to do before then. She really didn't want to tell Keefe about her illegal trait yet. Definitely not yet.

"I don't see anything. You have the telepathy thing right? Do you think you would be able to track thoughts like Sophie can?" Keefe asked.

"Maybe. I don't think I've ever really tried" she said. Then she opened her mind to everything within miles, and concentrated extremely hard. She got traces of thoughts from about 50 feet away and got so excited she felt rolls of fire on her tongue. She kept her mouth closed and her face got hot. She tried to focus on extinguishing the flames, but she was also focusing on not losing the trace of the thought she found, so she ended up opening her mouth and seemingly turning into a fire breathing dragon. Keefe was so taken aback that he screamed. It was so high pitched that it sounded like a squeak, and under normal circumstances, she would have laughed, but these weren't normal circumstances. Keefe's eyes were wide and Tess was spewing fire. She drew moisture from her core to put it out with hydrokinetics, and that seemed to do the trick. After all of this, the walls of the cave they were in were ashen and wet, and her multicolored hair was all wet as well. She spit out a bit of water and tried to walk towards Keefe, but he just looked at her with wide eyes that seemed to show fear. She was breathing heavy now, and she was covered in water.

"Hi" Tess said. She couldn't think of anything else to say. She just exposed her pyrokinesis. To Keefe. She was just spewing fire and water at the same time, and that probably looked very bad from his point of view.

"So you do have pyrokinesis" Keefe said, wide eyed. Then he smiled. "This is so awesome! Do you know how wicked that looked? I was right!" he added. Tess's shoulders slumped and she was still breathing heavy. It was hard to breath after having a mouthful of fire. Then she started coughing. It got harder and harder to breath the more she coughed, and she fell to the ground. Keefe knelt down next to her and tried to help her stop, but it wasn't easy. After about a minute her coughing dyed down and she started breathing easy again. She looked at Keefe.

"Please don't tell anyone" she said. Her voice was raspy and low, and her throat hurt with every movement her vocal chords made. She moved to lay on her back, and she could see her chest rising up and down with each breath. Keefe was still next to her and he had a caring face.

"I promise, I won't tell anyone. I've kept a lot of secrets, another won't hurt me" he said. "Do you need help getting up?" he asked. Tess nodded and he took her hand to pull her up on her feet. He was very strong if he could pull her body weight.

"Thanks. Sorry if I freaked you out" she said. Her face was extremely red, and not from the heat of the fire. She honestly was just embarrassed. She just uncontrollably started to breath fire. She could have seriously injured Keefe. Or worse, she could have killed him. Just like Fintan did to his friends. Tess did not want to be like that. Maybe she was a Neverseen project. The Black Swan wouldn't do that to her....

She was taken out of her thoughts when Keefe came over and hugged her. She didn't know why he was hugging her, but she sank into it. Before she knew it, she was crying on his shoulder. When he pulled away he took her hand and they started walking. Tess knew there was an alternate solution to this though.

"Can I see your home crystal?" she asked. Keefe pulled it out and gave it to her. She made a circle gesture that was commonly known as the sign for "OK" and summoned a small amount of fire. She put the crystal in front of the screen of fire and a beam of light appeared. She smiled.

"Come on, let's get out of here"  she said. Keefe guided them into the light beam and she felt the tingling feather sensation. When she opened her eyes there was a huge crystal tower above them. It still wasn't what she expected from the books, but it was still as grand as it said. She looked up in awe and heard Keefe laugh.

"Yeah, that happens a lot. My dad is a-" Keefe started to say, but he was cut off by Tess.

"Go big or go home guy" she said. She turned to him and smirked. His eyes narrowed, and he smiled.

"You're not reading my mind, are you? But don't get me wrong, I don't care" he said.

"I wasn't reading your mind, I know you've said that before. To Sophie, the first time she came here. I read it in the book" Tess said. Keefe seemed to understand when she said that.

"Ah, okay, that makes more sense. I just thought you could see the past, which isn't too off from the actual situation" Keefe said. That actually made Tess laugh, it was a quick little laugh, like from when she was little. It was high pitched and seemed to cheer Keefe up a little. He had a full smile on his face, which she knows doesn't happen often, and when it does, it's always Sophie who makes it happen.

Oh no

Sophie.

Sophie, Keefe's girlfriend. Suddenly Tess felt wrong. Like she was trespassing on someone else's property. She was holding Keefe's hand, which she was sure he did to a lot of people. He's a naturally flirtatious person, everyone knows that. But the problem is that Tess has had a crush on him, even before she met him. They met through the pages, and of course she shipped Keefe and Sophie, she even had a fanpage on Instagram dedicated to the book and shipping Team Foster-Keefe, but she couldn't help but want something with this fictional character whom she thought she'd never even meet at the time. But now he's real, and she was holding his hand. And he's dating someone. Sophie. Her sister. Sister.  She can't do that to her own sister. Her twin sister.

"Hey Keefe, how about we just get back to Atlantis. They're probably worried sick about us" Tess said. She was starting to get an anxiety attack. Did that happen to regular elves? I didn't really matter at that point, because she's been getting them since she was eight. Which, not-so-coincidentally, was the year her human parents got divorced. Ever since then her anxiety has just been rolling downhill and getting worse. She was hoping it would get better once she got here.

"Woah, are you okay? I'm getting a lot of anxious vibes from you. Actually, there are a lot of different vibes coming from you. I don't really know how to make sense of so many feelings at once" Keefe said. Tess was breathing heavy now, and her vision was starting to blur. She could faintly hear Keefe saying her name, and he sounded worried. Next thing she knew, she was staring at the sky and Keefe was hovering over her face. Then her vision went black.
