Chapter 1 - Doctor's Appointment

I arrived home that day, and made my way up to my room. I lived at Calum's house now, and I have for six years now.

My parents were always fighting. Once they were so mad that they took it out on me. I was taken from my parents. I have been living with the Hoods ever since.

I am actually dating Calum. I didn't want to tell him of my disease, however. I didn't want him to be crushed. I'll tell him when the right time comes, or when nature tells me it's time for him to know.

Calum entered my room. He came over to my bed and sat next to me. His hand was then entwined with mine. He looked into my eyes, "is everything alright?"

"It's fine."

"What did the doctor say?"

"Nothing out of the ordinary. The usual.." Everything was usual, except the part about me dying in nine months.

"That's good. I love you, you know?" He kissed my hand.

"I love you too," I whispered.

"There's something wrong."

"Cal, nothing is wrong, I promise."

"I hope you're telling the truth," he kissed my cheek.

I said nothing. I kissed him back. His hand was slowly taken from mine. He looked me up and down.

"What's wrong?" He badgered once again.

"Cal, I said nothing."

"Fine. I just get worried. I love you," he lightly whispered.

"I love you..." My voice trailed off.

------

Later that night, at dinner, Calum sat next to me and grabbed my hand underneath the table. I smiled at him, receiving a smile back.

Our hands stayed together, fingers entwined, during all of supper. Joy looked at me and decided to ask me about my doctor's appointment.

"So, how did it go at the doctor's today, Hayley?" She asked. Did she really have to bring that up?

"Good. Everything is normal," I told her. Calum just watched me. It didn't look like he was following what I was saying, as if he had zoned out.

"Cal?" I looked at him.

"Yeah?" He was taken out of his trance.

"You alright?"

"As long as you are," he smiled.

"I am."

"Good," he placed a kiss on my right hand, the hand holding his.

We continued eating. How could Calum be that suspicious? I wasn't that bad of an actor, was I? I hoped he somewhat believed me, at least.

------

That night, after getting into my bed, Calum came in and sat on the edge. I wondered what he was doing.

"Cal, what are you doing?"

"I still think there's something wrong. You haven't been as happy as usual."

"I think there's something wrong with you. You are acting weird."

"That's because I'm worried about you."

"Don't be worried. Nothing is going to happen to me, not for a while, I promise."

"You promise?"

"Good," he smiled, kissed me, and left the room. I turned towards the wall, thinking of the doctor's appointment, and fell asleep.
