Chapter Twenty Eight
Smokescreen was silently typing as he thought about what happened and what he was trying to do now. He sighed forcefully and rubbed his face then set his elbows on the desk. He kept his head in his hands as he gripped his hair. He wanted to help more than he was currently able. He couldn't be in the force but was able to do office work, after Rodimus pulled a few strings he got him a job in the station still. He was in another building though as he worked on a few cases.
He sighed and checked his phone then smiled a little at his sweethearts message. He loved Brooke so much and would do anything for her. He read it a few times then looked up at the clock for a moment. He sighed and rubbed his face as he put his phone away. He stared at his legs and his eyes glazed over a little.
He wished he could walk but knew there wasn't much he could do about it now. He sighed and closed his eyes for a moment as he gripped his knees, but didn't feel anything, still. He sighed and hung his head as he sat there, slowly fingering the scar on his arm from the accident, though he knew better than to call it that.
After a few minutes he went back to typing and worked on finishing his paperwork for the evening. He was the only one in the office at the moment and he noticed it was slowly getting dark, the only light in the room from his computer. He had to finish his work before he could go. He heard someone enter the room and figured it was the night crew, they would work around his desk and work with the others. He didn't know how many were in this room.
"I'll be done soon." he called as he continued to type and glanced towards the door on the far wall, but didn't see anyone. He glanced behind him to the elevator and frowned before working again.
He paused as he realized something, no one was in the room. He looked around more and gripped the wheels on his chair. He frowned as he moved from his desk.
"Good evening friend." a voice said in the darkness and he froze as he glanced around the room to see a man standing in front of the elevator. He hadn't been there a moment ago.
"Evening... sir. May I ask who you are?" He said keeping his voice calm, though the air around him was tense and he was nervous. The man stayed in the shadow for a moment then chuckled darkly as he stepped to the light.
"I'm hurt that you don't recognize me." the figure said as he looked at him with dark eyes, ones that were filled with malice. Smokescreens eyes widened as he remembered the man and he gripped his wheels more.
"Barricade." He gasped and his knuckles turned white as his grip tightened more. The man smirked as he walked towards him. "What do you want?" he growled lowly.
"Information of course." he said as he walked over and smacked him hard in the face, making the man grunt as his head turned sharply. "I know this place has everything I need." He sneered and gripped his chair handles then shoved him into the desk. "Now, open the computer and do as I say." he said into his ear.
Smokescreen stared blankly as he clenched his fists under the table and thought about what to do. He couldn't let this man hurt anyone else. He slowly brought his hands to the keyboard and stared blankly as he thought of his sweetheart.
"You're taking too long." he growled and moved away as he pulled the chair back then shoved him to the ground.
Smokescreen cried out in pain as he hit the ground and the villain kicked him before searching his desk. The young man looked at him as he frowned deeply. What was he looking for? He shook his head and worked on moving away. Barricade glanced at him then punched him hard in the face.
"Don't go anywhere, Cripple." he sneered and Smokescreen glared at him as blood leaked from the cut on his lip. He waited for him to keep searching then worked on getting away again.
The villain looked at him and glared then walked to the other side of the room. Smokescreen could hear him messing around with something and he took the opportunity to reach for his phone. He pulled it out and quickly texted his brothers and sister. Trying to get a message across as quickly as possible. He then called 911 and put them on mute as Barricade came back. But the man saw and took his phone then hung up, before tossing it at his head.
"I'm curious. Do you still have asthma?" he asked as he grabbed him by the shirt and forced him in his chair again. Smokescreen grunted and glared darkly as he watched the man who shoved his chair into the desk again.
"What do you want?" He asked as he narrowed his eyes. Barricade looked at him then fiddled with a few things in his coat pocket.
"I told you already." He said seriously as he pulled a vial out of his pocket and opened it, then poured the powder in his hand. "I need you to open that computer and find something for me." he glanced at the screen as he spoke.
"No. I won't help you." he growled and glared at him. "I won't participate in your criminal activities and destroy the people of this city." he seethed making the other man narrow his eyes as he clenched his fist with the vial.
"Wrong answer Smokes." he said darkly and blew the powder in his face. Smokescreen tried not to inhale it but coughed and shoved him back. "Don't worry it's harmless. Just some weed pollen, other pollen, dust, and whatever else Google provided for me." He sneered.
"Idiot. People grow out of things like that. I got over my asthma." he smirked and glared at him as he glanced to his pocket for his phone. He had put it back after it hit him in the head. He couldn't let the man get the information he needed and he grabbed the tower of his computer.
"What are you doing? Stop!" Barricade yelled just as Smokescreen grunted and tossed his computer out the window. The villain rushed over to grab it but could only watch as it fell three stories and shattered on the sidewalk. "You idiot!" He shouted and whipped around as he glared at him.
The crippled cop smirked and quickly wheeled backwards to get out of reach. He then started booking it towards the other side of the room. He paled a little as he felt an attack. He didn't realize he had been fighting it until he was rushing away. He glanced around for the elevator only to be knocked over by Barricade. The man started to beat on the cop but paused as he heard him wheezing, the sound made him smile wickedly.
"Got over it did ya?" he sneered and shoved him down then broke his wheelchair so he couldn't use it and get away. "I'll just leave you to suffer." he smirked then started to walk off but paused as he realized something. The cops phone would have some information on it.
He turned and walked back over to the man who was struggling to breathe. His attack was getting worse. Barricade searched him and grabbed the phone then sneered as he looked at the picture on the lock screen.
"Oh that's nice. You have a sweetheart." he sneered. The picture was of Smokescreen hugging a woman as she smiled. "She's awful pretty. I'll let her know what happened to you." He smirked at the man. Smokescreen glared and managed to grab his phone before smashing it into the hard floor.
He continued to smash it as Barricade tried to stop him and yelled angrily. Smokescreen didn't have the energy to smash it anymore and finally stopped. The villain picked up the pieces and growled lowly, there wasn't anyway he could fix it.
"You're just like your father, getting in the way of everything." Barricade grumbled and punched him in the face. Smokescreen coughed as he lay on his side then smiled a little. Barricade growled and went to a trash can then started a fire.
"You can die like him too." he sneered and kicked the cop before leaving the room and heading out. He glared as he shoved his hands in his pockets, feeling as though his time had been wasted with the brat.
Smokescreen gripped at the floor and managed to sit up as he wheezed and coughed. He gripped his chest as his other hand stayed on the ground to steady him. He dragged himself towards a desk and away from the fire. He struggled more and managed to pull the phone off the desk as he gripped the cord. He fell to the ground and coughed more as he wheezed and gasped.
He looked to the phone and listened to the dial tone before he weakly dialed 911. The phone made a noise and he realized he didn't hit the right button to call out of the office. His hand dropped as he got to weak and his breathing seemed to stop altogether as the smoke added to his attack. He hoped his family got the message and got here soon as he passed out.

Soundwave stared blankly as his brother hugged him, he slowly let go then glanced back into the room, they had been moved to a safe location and Jim was walking around with Frenzy. The two were getting settled in the hotel room. Heatwave was worried and that wasn't normal in the young man's eyes. The firefighter sighed and ran a hand through his hair as he glanced around with slight worry. His little brother was about to say something when the olders phone rang. He quickly picked up and looked at it before answering.
"What is it, Chase?" he asked seriously and Soundwave grunted as Frenzy hugged his leg and grinned up at him.
"This is so cool. Can I go swimming and get candy? Can we order pizza? Will Uncle Heatwave join us for or awesome vacation and party?" He asked as he grinned more with each question. The musician smiled a little and gently rubbed his head. The boy was so innocent and didn't understand the situation.
He was about to answer when his own phone went off and he furrowed his brow. He looked at the caller and hesitantly answered the phone.
"Soundwave, I need your help." Rodimus said quickly as he walked to the car and fought back tears. "I don't know what happened but the DJD have my little brother. I have no way of tracking them and I know you've had experience with them." he said quickly as he shakily started the car. He stopped as he stared and thought about when he lost his dad.
"I c... I can't let them hurt my brother..." he rasped as he tried to focus and clear his head.
He remembered seeing his father die, and how Starscream brutally murdered him in front of everyone. His mind was cruel and all it could focus on was how they'd hurt the poor child.
"I'll help you." Soundwave said, snapping the tormented cop out of his own thoughts. The Chief sighed shakily and closed his eyes for a moment. "I'll let you know what I find in a few minutes." the ex-con said and hung up after the man thanked him.
"I have good news." Heatwave said and looked at him as he smiled a little. "The others found Grimlock and they are taking him to the hospital as we speak. They said they found him unconscious in a cabin located in the woods. No one else was there but they're searching anyway." He explained and seemed to relax a little. Soundwave didn't bother telling him about his own phone call, he didn't want him to worry.
"Do.... you know if... mom is okay?" the younger brother asked and Heatwave looked at him, before he paled a little. "I'll be fine... I promise." The musician muttered as he smiled a little to reassure him.
The firefighter nodded and went to leave. He looked at him and hugged him tightly before he quickly rushed off. Soundwave watched him go then went back inside the room to get to work. His time was wasting.

Heatwave rushed outside and went to the firetruck where Kade was waiting, he was also pouting and folding his arms like a child. He glanced at the man as he got in and started to drive off towards the hospital. The redheaded firefighter huffed and rolled his eyes, not liking the fact that his partner was doing personal things right now.
"What are we doing now?" Kade huffed and glared at him. the other man didn't respond as he gripped the wheel tightly and started to worry, but kept his expression blank. "Okay seriously dude, you need to talk to me." he grumbled and narrowed his eyes more.
"My dad is in town, and possibly my older brother." he said seriously and kept driving, saying it out loud made him more tense and his anxiety started to rise. He still hadn't told the young man about his mother and they were soon at the hospital.
"Well that's great then." Kade said as he smiled and thought of his own family. "We should call them or meet up with them." he smirked, wanting to see where his partner came from.
Heatwave froze, he had been in the process of getting out and was gripping the wheel. Kade realized too late that he hit a sensitive nerve.
"Not all families are like yours." he said without looking at him, the other man swore he heard a hint of pain in his voice. He watched the older firefighter get out and shut the door. Heatwave walked quickly to the hospital and his partner frowned deeply.
"There is no way I'm staying here again." He growled and jumped out then clenched his fists as he followed after him.
Kade looked around for him and frowned when he saw him talking to a receptionist. She was flirting with the firefighter, but of course it went over his head, which always irritated his teammate.
Heatwave nodded and walked off as the woman at the desk huffed and pouted. Kade sighed and walked after his partner, but stayed at a good distance as he followed him to another waiting room. He saw the man walk over to a burn victim who was sitting by herself as she shook. She looked up at the firefighter and smiled then stood as she hugged him tightly. He heard the woman sobbing and his teammate talking to her, the other man moved closer to hear them but stay hidden.
"It's okay..." Heatwave whispered as he held her close and she moved back to grip his face between her hands. "Don't worry, mom... Soundwave is safe." he muttered and she nodded as she relaxed a little.
"Thank you... I was worried about you... I hadn't heard..." she trailed off and looked down as she shook and he hugged her tightly. "He was here... Heatwave... he was-"
"Wait. You have a mom and you never told me?" Kade asked and Heatwave tensed as he held her protectively. He looked to his partner and gave him an expression that could kill.
In that instant and with that look, Kade knew he messed up.
