Chapter Twelve
Rodimus walked down the hall of the hospital as he thought. He was doing his best to keep his sister focused. It had been almost a year since their father was murdered. A whole year. Things were different and others stayed the same. He was now chief of police after Charlie Burns had his heart attack. He could never fill that man's shoes.
He stopped for a moment and took his cap off. He stared at it blankly then smiled a little. It was his father's. He insisted on wearing it if he had to wear one. He wanted to make his father proud, but he was different from him. He sighed shakily and put the cap back on then went to a room. He knocked and took his cap off again.
"Bulkhead?" He asked quietly and the man looked up at him. He was sitting by a young woman as he held her hand.
"Is it already that time?" Bulkhead rasped as he looked at him. Rodimus nodded slowly and smiled a little. The soldier looked at the woman and gently kissed her forehead.
"I'll be back Andi..." he whispered quietly and rested his forehead against hers. Rodimus looked at the floor, feeling as though he was intruding. Bulkhead stood after kissing her again then went to the door.
"You'll... let me know?" He asked as he looked at him.
"Of course." Rodimus said as he smiled a little and watched him go. He looked to the young woman and sighed shakily.
She had been in a coma ever since they brought her to the hospital and saved her life. She had woken for only a moment to ask for her brother and Bulkhead. When they told her she slipped into the long coma. He himself had actually found them in the alleyway. He still couldn't get the image out of his head. The young man sighed forcefully and sat by her side as he stared at her.
"Hey Andi..." he mumbled feeling awkward that he was talking to someone in a coma. "I won't bother you too much this time." He said as he looked at his hands. "I bet you got tired of me ranting last time about Strongarm and Sideswipe dating." He smirked cockily and looked at her. His smile faded and he fiddled with his hat before he stared at it.
"I miss you Dad..." he whispered quietly as he gently rubbed the worn cap. Tears filled his eyes and he tried to blink them back.
"I... I guess we... both have a reason to go after Starscream." He said seriously and looked at her again. "Maybe we can work together and bring him to justice." He muttered then fell silent as he stared at the hat. A few tears fell down his face and landed on the blue fabric.

Bulkhead walked into the room and sighed shakily. He smiled as he fixed his tie and went to the others. The room was beautifully decorated and he saw his father struggling with his tie.
"You never liked those things." He said as he walked over and helped his father tie it properly.
"Last time I wore one was at... my wedding and Arcee's." Optimus admitted as he smiled a little. His oldest son chuckled softly and glanced at his younger brother. "You doing okay Smokes?" He asked.
"Ya just can't tame my hair." He said as he smiled brightly. His red hair was all over the place and Brooke was trying to help him.
Bulkheads smile faded as he watched his paralyzed brother. He remembered how depressed his brother had been, fearing Brooke would leave him. Though she had proved him wrong and helped him through it all. Smokescreen smiled slightly as he looked up at her. He gently gripped her face and kissed her happily. Optimus smiled as he watched while the oldest son chuckled softly.
"Save it for your wedding." Bulkhead said as he chuckled again. Brooke blushed deeply and rubbed the back of her head nervously before walking out of the room.
"You made her uncomfortable." Smokescreen said as he looked at him and pouted a little. He laughed quietly as Bulkhead ruffled his hair and messed it up. Optimus chuckled and went to his youngest son.
"Bumblebee? Are you ready?" He asked quietly as the young man stared blankly at his hands.
"Dad... I'm terrified... what if she decides she doesn't want to marry me?" He asked as he looked at him. Optimus sat down and put his arm around his shoulders.
"I had the same fears when I was to marry Elita." He said gently and his son stared at him for a moment.
"What did you do to overcome them?" He asked quietly. Before Optimus could respond, Ratchet came in and glared at them.
"Are you seriously still in here?" He asked as he walked over and glared at him. "Get up." He huffed and grabbed Bumblebees shoulders then pulled him to his feet. He grumbled something under his breath as he brushed him off.
"I swear if you don't get out there you'll never hear the end of it from me. I won't have my nephew stand a girl up on her wedding day." He growled lowly and smacked the back of Bumblebees head.
"Stand up straight. This is a wedding, not a funeral, but it'll be yours if you don't get out there." He muttered and walked to the door. "Bulkhead! Smokescreen! Get out to the front!" He shouted and motioned for them to go. Bumblebee blinked in surprise as the three disappeared around the corner and he looked at his father. Optimus chuckled softly and gently gripped his shoulder.
"I had Ratchet." He said as he smiled a little and walked out of the room. Bumblebee watched him go then looked at himself in the mirror. He smiled nervously then walked out of the room to the chapel.
Bumblebee couldn't stop fidgeting as he waited. He glanced at the clock as discouragement took his heart. She was almost fifteen minutes late. He looked at Bulkhead and Smokescreen as he fought back tears. His older brother was his best man and Smokescreen was one of his groomsmen. Bumblebee sighed shakily and felt embarrassed. Had she left? Why did she leave? Did he upset her? He wanted to leave or go after her. The music started and he jumped a little as everyone stood. He looked up as her father kissed her cheek and walked her down the aisle.
"And you were worried." Bulkhead chuckled softly as he patted his shoulder a little.
"Shut up." Bumblebee muttered trying not to blush. He stared at her and seemed to suddenly be in a daze.
She was beautiful. More than beautiful, an angel. Did he actually deserve her? He smiled as she looked at him with those mesmerizing eyes. She smiled brightly which made him smile more. He couldn't believe how wonderful she looked. He noticed her eyes were red as if she had been crying. Her father kissed her cheek again and said something to her. She tried not to cry and Bumblebee took her hand in his. He stared at her as he held both her hands in his.
"You... I... I um... don't know... what to say... you're..." he whispered quietly and she blushed. If he could have melted away into nothingness, he would have right then and there. He listened to the man start the ceremony then carefully signed in her hand.
*Cassidy... you're my everything. You always will be, and I want to love you forever and always.* He signed as he kept his eyes locked with hers. She smiled as tears filled her eyes and he gently wiped one away.
"Ahem." The man said and Bumblebee blinked in surprise then had to force himself to look away from her.
"Hmm?" He asked as he glanced between him and Bulkhead who had face palmed. Ratchet sighed forcefully as he sat with Optimus and pinched the bridge of his nose. Bumblebee realized he missed his part and blushed deeply.
"Shall I repeat myself?" The man asked as he raised an eyebrow. The young cop nodded slowly as Cassidy laughed silently.
"I'm going to kill your son later." Ratchet muttered under his breath. Optimus only smiled a little and watched the rest of the ceremony. Once the couple kissed everyone cheered happily.
Optimus just smiled as a tear fell down his face. He looked at the empty seat beside him and gently set his hand on it. He knew Elita would be proud of their son. He glanced over at Chromia and knew the woman missed her sister dearly. They had helped each other in their time of need and their families had helped the other as well. Chromia looked at him then smiled a little as she held a sleeping six month old in her arms.
It was extremely difficult for her to have children and she was excited to finally have another. She had almost died having the first child, and the baby didn't survive the birth. She had been trying ever since and her prayers were finally answered. Optimus had helped the distraught couple during the pregnancy. Ironhide had been worried to death about his wife and child. They had attempted to adopt and other methods, but it never worked out.
The father blinked a couple times as he came out of his thoughts and turned back to his son. He watched them leave and he smiled as everyone followed.
"Only two more to go, aye Optimus?" Wheeljack smirked as he put an arm around the older man. The old cop grunted quietly but didn't say anything. He was glad the young man was doing better.
It had taken a while for him to speak again, almost the full year. He also had to deal with being half deaf, which was hard for him. Rung managed to help him, but the soldier silently blamed himself for Magnus' death. Windblade helped the man a lot as well as her father. Those that had been captured by Starscream did there best to support each other.
Jazz had horrible PTSD along with his ADHD he was already dealing with. He shook a lot and struggled with daily activities. Wheeljack continued to look after him like a brother, and even got him a service dog to help him detect a panic attack. Music seemed to calm him the most, though he was extremely embarrassed about his situation. He wasn't allowed to be on the force until he got a little better, but Bumblebee let him stay on his team. He helped Fixit most of the time which in turn helped him.
"Probably have Smokescreen married off pretty soon." Bulkhead said as he glanced over at his brother. He was by the door as Brooke sat by him on a chair. Smokescreen laughed quietly as she put a flower in his red hair. He reached over and hugged her tightly as she giggled.
"I'd say it will probably be another month at the least." Ratchet muttered and looked at Piper as she walked over.
"I'll see you at the reception papa." She said and hugged the doctor tightly then kissed his cheek. He smiled slightly and watched her run off with Brooke.
"Never seen anyone get you to smile Doc." Wheeljack smirked and the older man glared darkly.
"Don't you have somewhere to be." He snapped angrily and walked out of the room.
Optimus chuckled softly and walked over to Smokescreen. He spoke to him for a moment then carefully wheeled him outside. Bulkhead looked around the room then headed to the door with his friend. The two spoke quietly and left the building then headed to their cars.
Wheeljack stopped suddenly as he saw Jazz sitting in the grass in his suit as he hugged the young German Shepherd. He stared blankly at the others as they drove away to the reception.
"Give me a sec, will ya Bulk?" Wheeljack asked as he turned and walked over to the young man. His friend watched and quietly closed his car door. He was curious to see how his friend helped the troubled cop.
"Hey Jazzman." Wheeljack said as he sat by him. The young man looked up at him then back down at the service dog who whimpered quietly. As if telling him it was alright.
"I just... needed to get some air..." Jazz muttered as he looked away from his friend. "I was fine until everyone stood up at the end... I suddenly felt trapped..." he mumbled in shame. "But I made it through the ceremony." He said hopefully as he looked at him and tried to smile.
"That's good kid." Wheeljack chuckled and ruffled his hair. "I'm glad Peyton here stayed still. His a good service dog." He said seriously. Jazz nodded slowly and thought for a moment.
"How... did you do?" He asked hesitantly knowing they both struggled in public at times. Rung had suggested they report to each other, since they both understood what the other was going through.
"Well I heard half of it." He grinned as he tapped his deaf ear. Jazz stared at him then smiled a little as Peyton rested his head in his lap. "Thankfully I missed the boring parts." The soldier laughed quietly.
"How do you do it?" The cop asked and looked at the man. "How do you stay positive and over come things?" He mumbled. Wheeljack thought for a few minutes then gently gripped his shoulder.
"If you mean the PTSD... I still have that, I just know how to stop an attack. Yours was more traumatizing for you, and that doesn't make you weak." He said seriously. "I'm going to help you through this though... okay?" He whispered. Jazz stared at him then nodded quickly.
"Good. Now let's get to the party and dance with the pretty girls." He grinned and stood up then helped him. Jazz smiled a little and thanked him, then went to a car where Fixit and Grimlock were waiting.
They knew not to bother him when he was going through certain things. Wheeljack walked over to Bulkhead then smiled as he waved the others off. His expression became blank as they turned around the corner.
"You worry about him... don't you?" Bulkhead asked as he stared after the car.
"Ya... he reminds me of Tyler... back in the war." He mumbled and Bulkhead furrowed his brow. He remembered him, and knew he had a traumatizing experience similar to Jazz. But his story didn't end well.
"You remember... what happened to him... right?" He asked hesitantly.
"Of course I do." Wheeljack growled lowly as he narrowed his eyes. "I was with you when we found his body." He muttered bitterly and yanked the door open. "I could have prevented his suicide... if I had helped him." He whispered as he glared and got in the car.
"That's why you're so protective of Jazz..." he mumbled. "You don't want the same thing to happen to him." He whispered quietly.
"Can we not talk about this?" He grumbled as he glared at the road. Bulkhead didn't respond and drove to the reception. He smiled a little at the fact that his friend was reaching out to someone.
~
Optimus watched as Cassidy and Bumblebee danced. He smiled slightly as he remembered when he danced with his own wife. The song ended and everyone clapped polity. Another song started and Cassidy danced with her father. Optimus' smile faded and he looked at the floor. He felt bad that Bumblebee couldn't dance with his mother. He watched as his son danced with his mother-in-law instead and Optimus tried to smile. He got lost in his own thoughts as he was taken back to his own wedding. He stared blankly and smiled a little as he remembered Elitas expression.
She laughed as she hugged him around the neck. He chuckled softly as he held her close then gently kissed his new wife.
Optimus snapped out of his memories as people clapped and he watched his son. Cassidy signed something to Bumblebee and he smiled brightly as he nodded. His new wife smiled and kissed his cheek then walked to the crowd.
Optimus stepped back so she could get through if she needed. She smiled and shook her head then held her hand out to him. He stared blankly then looked at her again before he hesitantly took her hand. She carefully led him to the dance floor as he looked back to Ratchet and children.
His friend raised an eyebrow as his sons and Arcee smiled. He felt himself stop and he blinked in surprise as he stared at Cassidy. She smiled a little as the music started but he didn't move. She gently took his hand and signed in it.
*Generally you dance when the music starts.* she said with her hands. He chuckled softly and looked at Bumblebee before dancing with his new daughter.
He was glad that Bumblebee had found such a wonderful young woman. When the dance finished he stared at her as he got lost in his own thoughts. Losing himself for an instant. He was staring at Arcee as she stood in front of him in her wedding dress. He smiled gently as he gripped her face and kissed her forehead.
"I love you... my daughter." He whispered quietly as a tear fell down his face. He smiled slightly then hugged her tightly before walking back to the others.
Ratchet could tell he was lost in his memories but didn't say anything. It was a sweet moment and he didn't want to ruin it. The music started playing a little faster indicating that everyone should dance.
Optimus sat at a table with Ratchet, Ironhide, Chromia, Bulkhead, Wheeljack, Arcee and Cliffjumper. They were talking as Bumblebee danced with his wife. Optimus blinked a couple times as he snapped out of his thoughts and looked at the others. He smiled a little as he looked at each of them.
He glanced at Smokescreen who was spinning around on the dance floor, in his wheelchair as he laughed. Peregrine was hugging her uncle around the neck as she squealed and laughed with him. Orion chased them as he smiled.
"They look so cute in their fancy clothes." Chromia whispered as she held her tiny son. Ironhide fixed the baby's bow tie and kissed his wife's cheek.
"Dance with me?" He asked quietly as he looked at her. Chromia hesitated then stared at the baby in her arms.
"I can hold him for you." Arcee offered and her aunt smiled in thanks. She handed her the baby and Ironhide led her to the dance floor.
"Ah Cee... I wanted to dance with you..." Cliffjumper pouted as he put his chin on her shoulder.
"I can hold the baby." Bulkhead chuckled as the boy was passed to him.
"Promise to be careful?" Arcee asked as she glared at him while she stood.
"I'm not a total klutz..." he mumbled bitterly as he looked at his cousin and rubbed his little cheek. Arcee rolled her eyes and walked off with her husband.
Ratchet watched Bulkhead intently but seemed pleased with how careful he was. Optimus heard someone talking and he glanced to the doorway. He smiled a little and stood up as the person approached.
"Charlie it's so good to see you." He said as he shook the man's hand. Chief Burns chuckled softly and carefully sat down with them. Cody watched his father intently then sat by him.
The Chief had almost been released from the hospital after his heart attack, when he unexpectedly had a stroke. It thankfully hadn't caused too much damage. He had lost the use of his left side but that was all. He had a cane to help him walk and his children constantly watched him. He was sad he couldn't be chief, but found other ways to help. Rodimus would constantly go to him for help.
"I'm sorry for being late... we got caught up with a few things." He said as he glanced at Cody. The young teen smiled a little but didn't say anything. He glanced at Ratchet and they seemed to have a silent conversation. The doctor and teen had a friendship not many understood.
Everyone jumped as Miko walked over and plopped in an empty chair. She pouted and glared at the table as she folded her arms.
"Uh oh. I know that look." Bulkhead said as he smiled slightly. She huffed angrily and pouted more.
"None of the boys will dance with me." She muttered bitterly.
"None of them?" Optimus asked as he looked at her and raised an eyebrow. "Not even Jackson Darby?" He said with a twinkle in his eye.
She looked at him then glanced across the room to the said young man. He was dancing with Peregrine as she laughed happily. Miko watched for a moment and smiled a little. The young man seemed to really like the two children.
"Ah, ah." Wheeljack smirked as he wiggled his eyebrows. She looked at him and blushed deeply. "You like em." He teased as he scrunched up his nose in a mischievous was.
"Shut up Jackie." She hissed and covered her face as she blushed more. The man laughed and gently smacked her back.
"Just waltz right over there and ask him to dance with you." He said and she peeked through her fingers at them. Optimus and Bulkhead nodded slowly in agreement.
"You guys are horrible." She whined but stood up. "What do I even say?" She asked.
"Be yourself." Optimus said as he smiled slightly.
"That hasn't worked for me yet, Grandpa." She sighed in exasperation. Optimus gave her another look and she mumbled something before walking off. The men at the table all turned to watch her.
"Ten bucks says she chickens out." Wheeljack said as he glanced between the other four.
"You're on." Bulkhead said as he smirked cockily. The other three exchanged looks before looking at the soldiers.
"She'll do it." Optimus said seriously as he watched his granddaughter.
"I don't think so." Ratchet muttered as they watched her hesitate and glance back at them.
"I'm not playing this game." Chief Burns chuckled softly. They all turned back to watch Miko. She shook her head and stood straighter then marched over to him as he sat with his mother. Jack looked at her and smiled slightly though it faded as she scowled at him.
"Dance with me." She said seriously and held out her hand. Jack stared at it then raised an eyebrow before standing and taking her hand.
"Always." He said making her blush a deep red. He gripped her hand and led her to the dance floor.
"Dang it!" Wheeljack hissed and smacked the table. Bulkhead chuckled softly as his friend and Ratchet paid the other two. They looked up again and saw Piper walk over as she smiled brightly.
"Come dance with me dad." She said as she grabbed the doctors hand. He hesitated and looked at the table.
"I... I don't think that's a good idea." He muttered. He wasn't used to being a father and the whole idea scared him. He expected his children to just leave one day. Like everyone else in his life.
"Oh come on. One dance won't hurt." She smiled and pulled him to his feet. He didn't want to but decided he should. Optimus watched his friend awkwardly dance for a moment before he figured it out.
The old cop looked at his children and friends. He loved them all, and wouldn't trade them for anything.
