Chapter Six

As time passed Megatron found himself losing it. The absence of his children and his desperation to get them back was driving him mad. He didn't even feel like himself anymore. He would have times when he felt reasonable and normal, yet others where he was a complete monster. He was ruthless and had a short temper with everything and everyone. He was only patient with Soundwave and occasionally Shockwave. They bought the tower and transformed it into their headquarters. As cover he made the first two floors an office building.

One day he was sitting in his office staring blankly at a letter. The ones who had kidnapped his children would send demands or make him do something. Like kill the chief of police. Soundwave had taken a vow of silence around everyone except him. No one knew why.

The mafia leader buried his face in his hands and sighed shakily. They still didn't know who the kidnappers were. It had been three years or more. He didn't know.

The young man looked at the leader and furrowed his brow. He locked the door to prevent intrusion and walked over to him. Megatron just stared at the letter then stood up. He walked to the window and stared out it as he rested his forehead against the glass.

"Where are they?" He rasped. "Where are my children?" He asked. Soundwave didn't respond and typed on his computer.

"Answer me dang it!" He shouted and banged his fist on the window as he faced the young man. "Where are my children?!" He yelled angrily. Soundwave didn't even flinch and looked at him. His expression was blank as he walked over and gave him a note.

"Optimus has come back to the city with his family." He said and the man yanked the note away as he glared.

"I don't care." He growled lowly and looked at the note then crumpled it then tossed it.

"That was the name of the man that stole your children." Soundwave muttered. Megatron stopped suddenly and grabbed the note then read it as his eyes narrowed.

"Predaking... the Predacons." He seethed angrily through gritted teeth and looked at him. "Where is he?" He growled.

"Running a scan." He muttered as he motioned to the computer. Megatron growled lowly and yelled as he punched the wall. He sighed forcefully and rubbed his face in irritation. A moment later the computer beeped and Soundwave grabbed his coat before heading to the door.

"Location verified." He said as he left the room. Megatron ran after him and they gathered some men together.

The band of men got in their cars and headed to the building Soundwave had found. Megatron and the communication specialist rode alone. The mafia leader loaded his gun and cocked it as he glanced at the young man driving.

"The element of surprise won't be likely with this group." The leader muttered bitterly.

"It will be. If we overwhelm them as quickly as possible." Soundwave corrected.

Megatron nodded slowly but didn't say anything. They pulled up to a building and surrounded it then quickly got out. It was a small warehouse and the men quickly guarded off each exit. Megatron gripped his gun and rested his forehead against the stone wall as he closed his eyes. He was trying to be calm. Soundwave looked at the father and set a hand on his shoulder.

"We'll find them." He whispered quietly and smiled a little so only he saw. The leader nodded slowly and his expression became dangerous before he kicked down the door. The mafia members ran inside and they heard them firing as a fight broke out.

"No!" Megatron yelled and Soundwave pulled him aside for cover. "My children! I can't-" Soundwave covered his mouth and shook his head. He looked around and sat back as he pulled out his phone.

He started typing quickly and looked to the far side of the room. He pointed to a door and Megatron motioned for some men to follow. They made their way to the door then opened it before heading down a flight of stairs. The men remaining followed or guarded the top floor. They got to the bottom of the stairs and quickly spread out. The basement was large and the hallway went to a big room at the end. They walked down it and saw a glass room on one of the sides.

He suddenly heard a bang and they jumped before looking at a dimly lit room with glass walls. A young boy had his hands against the glass as he banged on it and yelled something. Tears fell down his face and he seemed desperate.

"Dad!" The boy yelled though it was muffled. Megatron's eyes widened and ran over to the wall.

"Steeljaw?" He asked in disbelief and pressed his hands against the glass. "It's alright I'll get you out of there." He said and looked around.

His son looked different he was wearing a grey jumpsuit and was more built. Soundwave found a key pad and started hacking it. His men continued to look around and guard. After a moment the door slowly hissed open and Megatron ran in then hugged his son tightly.

"Dad..." he rasped quietly and hugged him tightly. "You finally came..." he choked back a sob.

"I never stopped looking for you..." he whispered quietly and helped him out of the room. "Keep him safe." He said seriously as he looked at one man. Steeljaw looked back at him and shook his head vigorously.

"No dad... please don't leave me." He begged. Megatron walked over and gripped his shoulders.

"I'm not leaving you... I'm going to find Blitzwing and Baylee." He said seriously and gripped his face. "It's alright." Steeljaw nodded quickly and hugged him tightly before stepping back.

Megatron quickly ran off with the others and looked through each room. Firing at anyone that didn't answer his question. He ran passed one thick metal door that had a small window on it, with another metal door so a person could peak inside.

He tried to open it and stopped suddenly when he heard someone chuckling quietly and crazily. A chill ran down his spin and he hesitantly opened the little window, but quickly closed it when someone cried out in pain.

"Too bright! Don't blind me I'll be a good boy! I promise!" He cried. Megatron just stood there as he listened. Blitzwing.

"Get this door open." He seethed and Soundwave ran over then worked on the lock. Once it opened Blitzwing cried out in pain and curled up in his corner.

Megatron quickly went in and closed the door. His son was skinny and his ankle was chained to the wall. He was covered in bruises and cuts caused by beatings. Megatron slowly walked over and knelt in front of him.

"Blitzwing... hey... it's alright... it's daddy." He whispered quietly and gently gripped his thin face. The young boy looked up at him and stared for a moment before he recognized him.

"Dad..." he rasped then smiled brightly and laughed maniacally before  becoming serious. "Dad please help me..." he begged.

"I will. Don't worry." He muttered and grabbed a handkerchief out of his pocket. "How long have you been in this room?" He asked as he carefully tied it around the boys eyes to protect them.

"I don't know... I was- making cake!" He laughed crazily as he weakly gripped his arm. "No I wasn't now shut up!" He shouted as he looked at the wall. "Oooh testy. Someone is- dad!" He cried as tears fell down his face. Megatron furrowed his brow and hugged him close. He looked around and saw a red light in the far corner by the ceiling. A camera.

"What have you done to my son?!" He shouted angrily as Blitzwing clung to him and buried his face. "You've destroyed his mind!" He yelled and shot the camera as the boy shook.

He looked at him then carefully undid the shackle before picking up the frail child and carrying him out. He cried out as the light hit his covered eyes and buried his face in his jacket.

"Dad... it... hurts..." he rasped and Megatron glared at everyone as he held him closer.

"I know..." he mumbled and looked at Soundwave. "Get him to his brother and the safe zone." He said seriously and realized he could feel the boys bones. His anger boiled inside him and he carefully handed his son over to Soundwave.

"Dad? Dad!" Blitzwing cried as he thrashed around and tried to hold on to him. "No no no!" He sobbed.

"Blitzwing! Blitzwing!" Megatron yelled and gripped his face. "I'm. Right. Here." He said seriously yet gently. His son panted heavily as he shakily gripped his hands.

"Don't leave me... please." He begged as he tried to see him through the bandana. Megatron carefully set a hand over Blitzwing's eyes to keep the light out.

"I'm not leaving you... I'm going to find Baylee..." he whispered. "Don't fight Soundwave... he's going to take care of you." He said seriously.

"Soundwaves alive?" He asked in disbelief as it registered in his mind. "They said you died." He muttered and buried his face in his shoulder to block the light again. Megatron smiled a little then went to find Baylee. He feared that her condition would be worse considering Blitzwing was worse than his brother.

He searched everywhere and he heard his men fighting a few Predacons. He rubbed his face tiredly and blinked back tears as he tried to find her. He then started looking for Predaking. He was going to kill that man for hurting his children. He ran faster but stopped suddenly as he saw a young girl in a glass room. Her hair was to her chin and she wore a police officer beanie.

"Baylee." He muttered and ran to the glass then set his hands on it. She had her head low and let her hair cover her face. She was thin like Blitzwing and she seemed empty.

"No... no..." he whispered and shot the key pad then forced the door open. He ran over and knelt by her then gently gripped her face and had her look at him. His baby girls eyes were hollow and dead. She seemed to see passed him and didn't say anything.

"Baylee..." he rasped as tears fell down his face. "It's daddy..." he said and she slowly looked at him. She stared blankly for a moment then blinked a couple times.

"Baylee?" She barely whispered. "No... my name... is... Useless... Pathetic... Child..." she rasped as tears filled her eyes. He shook his head and wiped her tears away with his thumb.

"No... no... do you know who I am?" He asked as he tried to find life in those eyes he once knew. He remembered her as a child looking up at him and smiling as she asked him to read to her.

"Dad... dad..." she rasped as tears fell faster and she hugged him tightly around the neck as she buried her face. "Daddy..." she sobbed silently.

"Shh shh shh... my dear... I'm getting you out of here..." he said as he picked up the frail child and carried her to the others. He got back and looked at his boys and their state.

"With me." He said seriously and walked to the stairs then stopped suddenly. He looked at Blackout with a dark expression. "Burn this place to the ground." He spat and left. The man smirked darkly and got to work.

Megatron sat in the back of the car as he held his children and glared out the window. The monster inside him slowly rising to the surface. He took them to the tower and then to the medical area inside. He had his doctors and nurses work on his children. A while later Soundwave was typing while Megatron stared out the window again and watched the building burn in the distance. They hadn't found Predaking or Natasha at all. No sign of them.

"I'm going to blow this city up." He muttered. "I'll burn this city to the ground until we find those monsters." He seethed angrily. Soundwave didn't say anything knowing the man was simply venting. Then again he had that look in his eyes that meant he couldn't be persuaded otherwise.

"You called me sir." Shockwave said as he came inside the room. Megatron sighed forcefully and looked at him.

"My children have gone through some traumatic experiences. I need you to..." he trailed off and turned around fully. "Find me Rung." He muttered. The scientist stared at him blankly then nodded slowly before leaving.

The next few years Rung went to the tower and had sessions with the three children. He was sworn to secrecy and didn't dare tell anyone where he went. The mafia members didn't like him and started calling him the Useless One. Megatron put him on the short list of people he respected and was actually kind to.

The father found out that while Steeljaw was with the Predacons, they trained him to fight and basically become one of them.

They had tried to do the same to Blitzwing but he was too wild and instead used him as a beating bag. They would lock him in the dark room for weeks on end and left him alone there. Rung figured that was how he ended up with split personalities.

Baylee was considered useless by her mother and was verbally abused. She had been forced to watch her brother get beat up and her mother constantly tore her down. Megatron did everything he could to keep them safe and let them know he loved them. Though the monster inside him was growing stronger and he was losing himself even more.

"Rung..." Baylee asked quietly as she fiddled with her fingers. The man looked at her as he finished writing something. "How do you... get over the fact that people call you Useless?" She asked.

"I simply ignore them and remember I have a greater purpose in life." He said as he wrote again.

"What is your greater purpose?" She asked as she looked at him. He stopped suddenly and just stared at the page. He didn't respond for a moment and took his glasses off. He could tell she really wanted to know. Yet he couldn't remember.

"My purpose is to help you and others around me. To help them become better." He said as he smiled slightly. She stared at him then smiled a little.

"You are doing wonderful and making good progress." He noted making her smile more. "Ah see? You're even smiling." He chuckled softly and wrote something down again.

"May... may I ask how my brothers are doing?" She whispered quietly still nervous about talking to most people. She had select few that she spoke with, her family, Rung and Soundwave seemed to be it.

"That is patient confidentiality." He said with a twinkle in his eye. She laughed quietly and smiled brightly before going to leave. He went to Megatron to report and ended up walking into a meeting.

"Sir I-" Starscream grabbed him and slammed him into the wall. The man winced in pain and stared at the thin yet strong man.

"You have no right to be here Useless One." He sneered and the psychologist simply fixed his glasses.

"Feeling the need to bully someone is actually a sign of weakness. You simply seek attention and glory from your peers." He said seriously. Starscream was slightly confused and let go then glared as he stepped back. Megatron stood and told Shockwave to continue the meeting before he and Soundwave walked the man out and to the elevator.

"I have a request to make." The mafia leader muttered as he shoved his hands in his pockets and they rode down to the first floor.

"I am well aware that I'm not allowed to talk to anyone about anything." He sighed tiredly as he cleaned his glasses.

"No doctor..." Megatron whispered and looked at him with exhaustion. "I need you to go with my children into hiding... continue to help them..." he mumbled.

"What about you?" He asked as he frowned deeply.

"It's too late to save me... I'm too far gone and this monster inside is killing me...." he rasped and Soundwave looked at him with concern. The two men were silent as they listened to him.

"Soundwave... take the children and Rung into hiding..." he mumbled and looked at the floor. Rung furrowed his brow and looked at him.

"You can't abandon your children, they-"

"I'm not abandoning them!" He snapped angrily and glared at him. "It's will come visit them as much as possible." He said and stared at nothing in particular. The doors opened and he walked out then down the hall.

Rung didn't say anything and looked at Soundwave. The two men did as they were told and took the children to Beta in the woods on the mountain. The children were thrilled to see her and were happy to be in what they considered their real home.

Time again blurred as he worked on the bomb. He continued to lose himself unless he was with the children. He couldn't even look himself in the mirror and had broken it in his rage. He hated himself. He wanted everything to just disappear. Soundwave found him in the penthouse sitting on the floor with broken glass around him. His fists bleeding from hitting the mirror.

The young man rushed over and started taking the glass out of his hands. Megatron didn't respond and continued to stare blankly. They were silent for a while as the communication specialist worked.

"Soundwave..." he rasped quietly and looked at him. "What have I become?" He asked. The young man stopped suddenly and looked at him.

"I'm a monster... and I can't turn back now..." he mumbled. "I... I feel this is the end..." he said and Soundwave sat by him without saying anything as he listened. Megatron looked off to the side as he stared blankly.

"Should... I leave you be sir?" The other man asked hesitantly unsure what to do.

"No... I fear that if you leave..." he trailed off but didn't look at him. He was so exhausted.

"May I say something?" Soundwave asked as he fiddled with his fingers and stared at his hands. The mafia leader simply nodded as he closed his eyes.

"You've always been like a father to me." He whispered quietly. "And... I thank you for that." He muttered. Megatron slowly looked at him and stared blankly then pulled him into a hug. The young man's eyes widened in surprise.

"I've seen you as one of my own children... and I'm honored." He said. "I promised your mother I would protect you and your brothers. And I have... all of them..." he admitted. Soundwave hugged him tighter and squeezed his eyes shut. He felt something was going to happen to him.

Megatron sat in his car and stared blankly at the wheel. The bombs were in place and he was simply waiting to give the word. His phone beeped as the teams told him the bombs were in place. He counted the notifications and closed his eyes as he sighed forcefully. His phone suddenly rang and he looked at it then furrowed his brow. He answered it and looked at the nearby alleyway.

"Hello Megatron." Natasha said as she smiled wickedly. The man froze and stared straight ahead. "You've failed what you were-"

"Is this what you wanted?" He growled lowly. "To create a monster that no one, not even myself could control?" He seethed.

"No... that wasn't intentional. I just wanted you to join Predaking and become a great-"

"Well you were greatly mistaken. Now this city is going up in flames." He spat and thought he saw a cop car.

"Megatron! Don't you dare blow up this city! Don't you-" He hung up and glared darkly then got out of the car. He shoved it in his pocket and walked down the alleyway as he thought. His phone rang again as he walked and he looked at it. He stopped suddenly and answered the call as he smiled a little.

"Hello my dear." He said as he rested his forehead against the cold brick.

"Dad? Where are you?" Baylee asked nervously as she bit her lip.

"Working sweetie... though I feel like quitting my job... I'm so exhausted." He whispered.

"Then come home. We can just sit and watch a movie or something. Just please come home and rest." She begged.

"I will my dear.... I'll be home soon... I promise." He said then said goodbye and hung up. He stared at his phone blankly as he debated on whether or not to send the text. He heard a gun cock and knew it was Optimus. He sent the text and the monster came out.

The next few minutes, or hours were a complete blur. Time became nothing to him as everything went down. He felt horrible when he shot Bumblebee, but didn't seem to have control over himself anymore. When the young man spoke he was happy for a moment as that guilt left him.

He felt the bullet enter him and he looked at the wound before glancing at his friend. A ghost of a smile graced his lips before he fell back and hit the cement. His world went black and only one thought remained in his dying mind. He was free at last.

Free from the insanity.
