A Sky Full of Stars
Author's note: The meaning of the trials will be described from another perspective as her perspective will be saved for later for the sake of the plot. Without further ado...
Leila:
She looked up into a sky full of stars and smiled.
This was her favorite time of the day, right after sunset, and the stars glowed like lightning bugs in the sky. She had an uninhibited view of the whole galaxy since she lived in the East. It was her own paradise, her being alone and no cares in the world at all.
If only her family could spend as much time adoring the night sky like me; it must be easy to take for granted the fact that the sky was so clear here in the East. It seemed as the only sound to be heard for miles came from the breeze swaying the tiny blades of grass back and forth while she stood still, alone from all others of the East. The only thing reminding her of real life was the faint sound of waves crashing on the shore miles away from me and the lights that flicker in the distance, signaling that people lived in this coastal dream.
Nonetheless, the real reason that she loved this hour of night was that for just a few minutes, while the stars first started twinkling like dew drops in the morning, she could reach...no, she could swear she could reach all the way to the heavens. And for a tiny moment, Lilia thought that maybe there were others like her who believed that observing the sky gave us a glimpse into the universe besides our world. That among our kindred lie another who believe that to every star a soul belongs; that one day, a day will come when our star burns out and we slowly fade into abyss to be reborn into another life, one more glorious than this in which we would truly be a part of the heavens and eternal rest be granted. No more worries or burdensome tasks, only pure joy and simply being with one another.
Lelia was just a simple girl when reality ruled its iron grip, but this time was her time to be a part of the cosmos and see farther than one can ever see in a million lifetimes! No greater treasure could there be than this-to explore from your own backyard and to feel I belong somewhere out there. What she would give for time to stay still and to just stay here for an entire millennium without interruption by anyone.
Too bad it would be the last day before the messengers came to announce the Trials.
